Thomaston, CT

Nice to know some of you are getting cheap? gas! Hope you have a great time, Jan....

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Heehee, just had to rub it in. Seriously, we missed you.

It was a great day. The weather couldn't have been better. There were some new DG members attend and a very young man -about 11 or 12 who is very interested in Plants and he was taking notes on his phone. Awesome!!!

We had a garlic tasting that coleup organized. We even celebrated Sallyg's birthday which is coming up soon. Got her to wear a tiara and everything.

So looking forward to next May.

Check out JBerger's thread about a hibiscus that needs a home here on the NE forum.

Sounds like a great time, Jan....wonderful that a boy that age was interested in plants....

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Yes, it was. He was a sweetie and helped carry pots, etc.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Sounds like a great time!

oh sure that comment went

now as I was saying....

after walking around all day yesterday and working out again this morning with the trainer my legs are YELLING at me

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I can hear them from here!!!

Thomaston, CT

You will get used to it pretty soon....

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

shouldn't get used to it, if it doesn't hurt anymore ya gotta start doing different exercises
saw her 3x already and haven't had the same routine yet

I tried running again, did a half mile which I thought was good for not doing it for a year, but then my shins have hurt for the last few days. I guess I'll stick to walking.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Stick with it.

Walking is great, Deb. I just cannot run anymore.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I walked to Davids on Saturday, and walked Leah back home, then a return trip and back, without the stroller and cutting through the school yard, it was only 20 minutes one way. With the stroller on the sidewalk was 25. Not bad.
First time I walked there since they moved in, I usually am driving something over for them.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Must be the time of year...I went back to the gym today and did a step/weight class...no more running for me to hard on my back. Walking the dog is tough enough.

I've had something in my eye since last night, tried just about everything I could think of to get it out, it's driving me nuts.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Yikes, Ronnie. Hope that clears up w/o any damage to your eye.

Thomaston, CT

Just keep squirting saline solution in, Ronnie....if it doesn't flush out, time for the eye doctor......

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

can't run here either - i tried adding a steep trail to begin my hike, then down a gradule trail, back up another steep trail and then down the very steep trail - did this for a couple of weeks and my knee acted up again, feels like there is something in there.could not even take a few quick steps playing the field in softball.

went back to just up the other steep trail and down the gradule one and knee was sort of ok -just needed to be careful no landing on the right knee on big drops going down hill. after another week went back try the really steep trail route again knee felt fine...........until the next day, really sore again.

think i will just do two loops on the route with the gradule down slope. and think about getting the knee scoped again.

I have decided to run the Dempsey 5k Challenge to raise money for a good cause. Since cancer has been knocking out the ones I loves for several years now, I have chosen to fight the only way I know how.
I can't have the radiation treatments for my brother, or the chemo for baby Adam but I can run like the wind (well I use to be able to in my younger days) so im going to try. I started training on 8/24/12 ~ I couldn't run for more than 90 secs the first day. The 2nd week I was sick as a dog so I didn't run. Now I run for 3 minutes, walk for 3, run for 3 walk for 90 secs and run 2 more minutes. I do this every day. Every Friday I add a little more time on, this week it will raise to 5 minutes run, 3 minute walk.
I doubt I will run the entire 5k but I am going to push myself to the limits of my legs, heart and mind and then push a little harder.
If anyone would like to support me on my run you can do so here...

For those of you who already have ~ THANK YOU FOR BELIEVING IN ME!!!

Good for you Celeste!!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thanks Ronnie!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Woohoo!

Thomaston, CT

You are one tough cookie, Pixie! Wish I could run, but have no strength in the hip that was repaired....walking 2 miles a day helps me with arthritis.......soggy walk today!

Little update on my job. Water mums outside, water living plants inside, cut, cull & change the water in 5 racks & clean all the buckets. The do get slimey in just a couple of days.

The kicker. Everything is based on the Julian Calendar (Julius Caesar in 46 BC). Yesterdays date was 261. I had to shrink 7 bouquets of roses that dated 258. That means ppd - past pull date.

Here is an example:

Sounds like a great job, Sherrie.....

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Do you get to take the "shrinks" home?

No one can take any "shrink" of anything. I took it to show the waste. The quality of those roses are gone. Flowers are in the produce department. You would be amazed at the produce that gets tossed. Thousands of dollars.

The only products I see leaving the store, not past dated, is stuff for the food kitchen.

Another point I would like to make. Jims ex wife died 7 months ago. He bought flowers for the funeral. I got the cheapest bouquet I could from the florist. That was 40 bucks!!! Go to your local super market & you can pick up a bouquet for 10 dollars. Go to the dollar store & get a vase. You could easily make 1 for 15 dollars & deliver it yourself. Now thats is a saving.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

go for it celeste!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

we're with you Celeste!!

Thanks for the inexpensive bouquet tip Sherrie

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Way to go, Celeste! You can do anything.

Thomaston, CT

Glad you sent flowers, Sherrie....that was the classy thing to do.....

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

You guys here on DG are WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!! I have meet my goal of $150 thats the min. you HAVE to raise. If you can't get 150 in donations then you have to pay it yourself so I didn't put my goal any higher. Now that I have reached the min. I went ahead and raised my goal to 250.00 and im happy to say im almost there too!!!!!!
I think I may reach for the stars and enter a new goal of 500. ^_^
THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU WONDERFUL FOLKS FOR BELIEVING IN ME AND SUPPORTING ME!!!!!!!!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I am glad Celeste!!!
