I bet Cliffie slept better too. :)

Winston is getting so big and handsome!

Has anyone ever done therapy training with their dog?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Like at a hospital or nursing home?

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Yes

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

When I'm in a hospital or nursing home, the pet therapy I want will not involve pets...

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

ugh

Victor! No, Ronnie, never did any therapy....I think the dog needs to pass a test.....my art teacher's daughter rescued a hound when she was living in Colorado a few months ago....the poor boy was living in a shelter for a whole year....he's only 2.....a cross between a redbone coonhound & a lab, they think.....I met him today for the first time, & I would have taken him home in a minute!

I assume that would be a "lab test"
Sorry I couldn't resist. :-)

I believe there is a certification for therapy dogs. If I am in a nursing home I hope there are cat or even dogs to make my day brighter.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

LOL Victor & Doug...

I've been reading up on it and there is a test...all the ones in my area the dogs have to be a year old, lots of time to practice, just wondered if anyone has done it. Winston seems like he may be a good candidate just need to make sure I'm able to commit. Something to think about.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Try looking over in the Pets group - I think that I remember people talking about Service Dog certification.

Well - the kitty boys are sick. Both of them have very low T4 (thyroid) and high ALT - which is a liverfunction indicator. The good thing is that BOTH of them have it, otherwise I would be very worried about Sampson who had radioiodine for his HyperT 10 months ago. We are starting by looking for parasites that Wallingford might have picked up on a walk and shared and then go from there. Wish me luck.

Oh. no, Memory! Hope the vet is able to find the cause quickly....& cheaply!

I got word today that my arab mare, who has been in retirement at a friends house, passed away. she was 33 yrs, very old for a horse.

South Hamilton, MA

sad, but she gave your family & her current one a lot of pleasure.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

yes she did. DD's a mess.

South Hamilton, MA

I would guess so. she probably thought that 'Sammy' would live forever. Luckily it happened before winter so they didn't have to fight to keep weight on her.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

so sorry to hear that... always hard loosing our buddies

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Sorry to hear that jumper, my condolences.

Have to share this - on my way back from the Vet in Stamford this morning, I stopped to look at a book store and walking down to the Orvis outlet I ducked into a pet store. There was a 4 month old ferret in a glass cage with not a single thing in it but a bowl with food and water. I could not stand it - the poor, bored thing! I bought it a cat toy - a hard plastic ball with cut outs and a bell inside. It was so happy to have a toy and rolled it all over trying to get the bell out. Totally made my day!

I'm glad I played with Alice yesterday and showed today. She helps ease the loss. DD was able to ride at school today, helped her some too.

Alice is my quater horse/ mustang mare. So far she is a very spunky 20 yr old.
