Chicken korma over basmati rice, with green beans, lettuce and cuke salad from garden. I cheated and used a packaged Indian spice mix. It was good, but a little too salty, so next time maybe will try to blend my own spices.

Meatball sandwiches, salad, fruit, broccoli salad and a birthday cake for my 85 yr old neighbor. Had a few people over.

Sounds delish, Allison

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

That does sound yummy, Allison. Anything with bacon is good in my book. Heehee

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I bought a jar of butternut squash sauce and used it with pasta and black beans. It was really good, DH liked it though he doesn't like squash. I didn't tell him what it was til after he tried it.

Thomaston, CT

Smart, Debi! I have leftover potato salad & green bean salad....maybe grilled chicken to go with them.....

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Anyone make ice cream? I'm looking at recipes and found one using sweetened condensed milk in it, wondered if anyone tried it?

Thomaston, CT

Yes, I have an electric ice cream maker.....I've made peach, lemon, & banana....I make a custard first....eggs, sugar, milk, chill it, then add flavorings & fruit to the mixer....I found you need a lot more flavoring than you think, otherwise it tastes like vanilla. A local dairy tried using Old Barn Farm's blueberries this summer, but they found they couldn't get a strong enough blueberry flavor without adding extracts, which they didn't want to do.....the dairy gave the trial ice cream to my grandkids, they liked it.....

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I've practiced with 2 recipes so far, the cooked custard one was much better than just cream and sugar.
I imagine the sweetened condensed milk would substitute for the eggs, but I don't want to try it if it's not good. I'm looking at the ice cream attachment for my kitcheaid mixer. How do you make lemon?

Thomaston, CT

I just juiced 1/2 dozen lemons & added juice , some pulp, and rind to the machine when I had the custard in there....I liked the lemon the best.....Today I'm making eggplant parm from the large eggplant I bought at the fair.....the organic farm that sold it is owned by one of my former students......

Westbrook, CT(Zone 6a)

After the spring frosts I had planted some Watermelon radishes. Never having grown them before, I was disappointed when they didn't appear to develop as fast as the familiar cherry types, and forgot about them. Today I brushed aside some leaves from an adjoining crop and there they were, as big as beets! They are very colorful and crunchy when cut open. DW put them in a stir-fry with carrots, green beans, amd pok choi from the garden, and enthused about their taste when cooked as well. We also had wild salmon, but they quieted down nicely when sauteed.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

We had salmon tonight also, baby limas and a pasta side.

Thomaston, CT

My sister brought me a watermelon radish! They are great.....chicken & noodle casserole tonight.....

central, NJ(Zone 6b)
