Best/Worse/What did I learn today?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

oooooooh that's interesting....... Mary - I fall in the "Anyone" catagory LOL j/kiddin' lady, just teasin' too!! LOL

Baton Rouge, LA

Well - thinking the Cajuns would be last on the list ! LOL.... ((HUGS))

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Canucks are further down the alpha listing, m'thinks...... ROFLMFAO!!
(((((((Mary)))))))

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I don't consider any of you Cajuns or Canucks, just more Sisters!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Mary, Havana is about 15 miles from where I am ....not a clue why I have a Havana address.

I didn't realize there had to be invitations! In the beginning...6 years ago...it started on Sweet Interruptions thread. Several of us wanted to meet so the first gathering was outside Birmingham, AL. Next year it went to Texas and slowly moved north to Bettys after that.

Careful what you offer Mary, this group will definitely take you up on "goodies". LOL

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Perfectly said LK.......back when I promised LK she could get her feet wet and in the sand!!!!

Baton Rouge, LA

Marion - I'm ready to back up my promise on "goodies"... just bought an "easy up" for the Model A party that we didn't even use (Tent awning).... can't bring everything..... but can help out much as I can.... (HUGS)

Susan... where did the "Canucks" phrase come from?

I know "Cajuns" came from "Acadiana" and "canada"..... so hubbie's ancestors came over from Nova Scotia or such....

Hugs,
Mary

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

LOL Oh there will be time to figure out things. Now I am just trying to look for a suitable date. Need to get through this fall with my DDs 29th anniversary of her 21st birthday, and finishing her Specialist degree. Think I can think a little clear...well attempt to think that is...........

Off to bed, believe it or not but I have a repairman coming tomorrow afternoon to do some work. Tomorrow morning is reserved so we can put flowers on my late hubby's grave..celebrating the 4th and his birthday.

Baton Rouge, LA

I can definitely understand that Marion...

Today is my Dear Mom's bday....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Evening all, close my eyes and here you are chatting..Lordy, thought I'd sleep the entire night and here I am wide awake!!

Mary, you asked where the term Canucks came from..it is thought that when thousands moved to USA in early 1800,s they primarily moved to Maine to work in the lumber mills and they were given the name Kanuks as a derogatory nickname but the CANADIANS wore the label with pride..in war time we had Johnny Canuck (cartoon )
same as you had Uncle Sam..

Marion, will be a long year as I'm already getting excited..lLord willing I will be there..

Mary, Suzanne was I'll all weekend, her daughter took her to emerge this afternoon..not sure if part was the flu but also had blisters on her eye..called her but the hospital made appt immediately with specialist for 6:15...sure hope it is nothing too serious that would prevent her from travelling with me fto New Orleans aug 3rd. As I would be heartbroken if I couldn't go but her health is more important that a trip right?? Not sure if he will be in tomorrow, here is hoping.

Glad you had a good day Susan..don't organize too much too quickly or you'll be out of a job earlier than you want to be. Lol.

Judy girl, just remembered even though you have that new tablet you have no wifi, off for coffee to an establishment that does have it, want update on your trip home..

Debbie did you hug Dianne for all of us??

Dianne, you feeling a bit better after dental work?

If I can't get to sleep ill get up and put telephone numbers in the blackberry jeff gave me yesterday..got it registered and new telephone number today and contacts need to be added. But will try this sleep thing one more time!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hugs for both you and Marion..these special occasions are difficult without our loved ones...imagine, when doing the tour I even showed the girls Roger's resting place..they are always with us regardless of how many years they have been gone..

Happy 4th of July everyone!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - the term Canuck, - checked on the 'net and it says it Could be either from woodcutters, or a derivative of quelle Canule which meant "what a bore" and they were cold when they said it, so chattered their teeth to canuck...... LOL (how silly is that explanation?!) OR Another theory is that it is a happy mash up of the words “Canadian” and “inuk”, an Inuit word meaning “man”.
Most English Canadians don't mind, but apparently French Canadians Do mind....
I don't care - I think it's "Funky" lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm French Canadian and all the ones I know take it as a term of endearment...

Beautiful outside, watered and deadheaded the baskets now ready so sit and enjoy a coffee!

Wondering how Suzanne is this morning, don't want to call incase she has to stay in bed..

Lyndonville, NY

On my trip home, we continued to the East of the lake, and followed Lake Ontario around somewhat. It was just beautiful drive, traffic was minimal.

We arrived at Dianne's house about 12:30 I think it was. The most intimidating part of the entire trip....Dianne's driveway! ROFL We had a very very nice visit, the view was gorgeous.. BUT better than anything....was getting my arms around this lady, I have waited so long for that.

I've had this flu bug for two weeks. Haven't slept well until last night when I was out for twelve hours. I'm still coughing some but feel much better. I think. kb

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm not a regular on this thread... been here lurking a few times, but never said anything.
So, I decided I'd actually write here today since I feel like family to some of you.
Met Betty in person at her beautiful home this weekend, and loved every minute there.
Met Debbie for the first time... what a lovely lady she is... and her hubby too.

To them, and to you all... I'm waving HI !!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Don't you be a stranger B.J...family we are and the girls welcome newcomers with open arms..armwraps as our Judy would say!!!

Katie, sorry to hear you are under the weather, sometimes sleep is the best you can do..seeing we celebrated Canada Day, USA today is celebration your July 4th, what do they celebrate about same time in Mexico???

Jean, what's new in your neck of the woods, did you ever get rain?? Forget, absent minded..are you further than Mary when I'm in New Orleans???

Bev, waving sweetie, meant to ask, the other day you made mention that you were looking after Scottie, is he now home???

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Debbie, what great pictures of Sailor, Missy and Sophia....too bad Ned was snubbing us! You would have had to be mighty fast to get a picture of Riley!!!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank you Betty...

Hello y'all! I've skimmed and tried to catch up but won't try to comment to everyone. I'm thrilled to see that everyone had such a wonderful time.

We got home yesterday! The funeral was awesome. He would have been very proud. He was a carpenter by trade and a missionary by faith. He was a member of Carpenter's for Christ and had been on several mission trips. The crowd was a testament to the life he lived. He was one of the "ole timer's" and will be very missed.

Okay, enough ... Thanks for your prayers and Dmails!

Baton Rouge, LA

Great to See you post Suse !

Betty - surely Suzanne would be better by next month? I hope whatever it is they catch it quickly... Who else will be on the trip?

Answering for Jean... Her house is probably 15 minutes away from mine... It looks like we are about to get a Tstorm and I sure hope so...

Oh DIANNE AND DEB ! Ya'll look like kin. Just kindred spirits... LOVE That picture and trust our Deb to post pics of the furries like family...

I sure have enjoyed the Sistahs Gathering pictures. I really can tell you all had such a great time just by the pictures on here....

I told someone that I needed to figure out some neat things to show my Canadian visitor, and she asked me how I knew Betty.... through a garden blog... I could tell she thought I was crazy.....

Folks seem more complimented than otherwise being called Cajun. I sometimes introduce myself as "Cajun by marriage". Someone at the seminar last Saturday pointed out that I pronounced the "c" in LeBlanc (which is not the correct pronunciation) and I just explained as
1. I work with a lot of folks out of the state and 2. I usually pronounce the "c" when giving out my email address so it's not forgotten.

I'd never heard of that last name growing up in California and Florida.

anyway... guess I'm just chatting away... Hope you are all having a Happy Fourth !

I'll pop back in a bit
Mary

Did you gals by any chance send the hot/hot temps with humidity 104 here today and hardly a breeze!

OMG Joyce, Riley came home the last two morning, I left the door open as I was doing garbage, ran in/ate/ran out, guess she's vacationing. Glad someone saw her otherwise you would have thought I didn't have a 2nd kittie

We can only wish Suse that the same testimonial will be done when it's our own turn..just incase it won't, I told the boys I want nothing, nada, the minute I close my eyes that's the end of me..my BIL Rick who is a card told me to set some money aside and hire mourners lol Must be hot in your neighborhood as well Suse.

Mary, don't plan too much as we are only in New Orleans for 2 days..here the family of Leblanc really pronounce the 'c'..french family name..first guy I had a crush on was a Leblanc...

yuk, 45 minutes more, falling asleep here

No Betty. Scotty will never come home. I cannot take care of him anymore. He is there permanently. He still tries to manipulate me when I am down there three times a week. He has always just cared about himself only. BEV

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm glad Bev, know you just couldn't care for him..Debbie and I both hoped that his not wanting to stay in a home broke your resolve and you ended taking him home!

Drats, Grek and Kyle came for supper, Melanie works afternoon, guess with the heat Kyle was tired/grumpy..his dad asked him something and Kyle just yelled at him..I reminded him that I would not put up with that tone of voice in my home, if he wanted to continue to do same, he knew where his home was..off he went!!

I feel bad but he has to learn..hurts me more than he..

Baton Rouge, LA

Betty - I wish my MIL would speak up like that ! Many many times....

((HUGS)) Bev

Glad to know I'm pronouncing it "The Canadian way"... I'll let folks know that if they call me out on it !

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Happy 4th to my 'merican sistahs!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, record breaking temps here with no breeze so I'd best go water gardens before I leave for work!

Sure hoping you've all had the perfect July 4th..tummies full I bet

Off and running

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie, is Paul now back at work or still a day or so of vacation left?
Bet all the furries were excited at seeing you.

Dianne, how are you feeling today? better I hope...will be a hot one for you today, hope you just spend time sitting near the lake.

Suzanne is running late this morning, says she feels a tad better but I wish she would have taken another few days.

That Miss Judy best be finding a coffee shop so she can post on her new tablet, want to hear about her ride home.

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, Paul had such a good time he took the rest of the week off and is on his way to Darien Lake Amusement/Water Park with Jeanna and Joe!!!

Yes, the furries and I are taking a break today and resting, took my diuretics so will be here for six hours at least!! lol

Last night the fireworks were amazing, but I was like "when are they going to end". Seemed extremely long to me...I am getting old! The walk did a number on my back and been having some spasms...but doing better this morning.

I never did see Riley, but Paul likes to tell how she just strutted straight out the door back into the garden and her "home away from home". Miss Sailor Girl, she is a sweetie as is Missy.

Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG you are going to convert him from a work-a-holic to a man of leisure, now if ONLY you could convince him to come at the end of the month for the Elvis Festival lol Thank the Lord he enjoyed himself otherwise that would have been the end of his travelling days to such events.

Once summer comes to an end I'll take the 4 boys to Darien lake, promised them I'd do so..let's hope Kyle is talking to me by then!!!

That's exactly what happened, Riley flew in, ate and right back out the door..think Joyce got a glimpse as did I..did the same the last couple of mornings so where she had been hanging out they must be treating her well!!

Poor Sailor girl, just walks the rooms looking for you all..I'm a bit boring I think, she'd rather have someone to play with.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL... took the sailor girl a while to warm up to us... but when she did, she couldn't get enough.
She is indeed a sweet girl.
I LOVE the way she nudges you with her nose, or gently paws you to get your attention.
then when you look at her... she turns her head toward the treats ...
now, that's as clear a communication skills as I've ever known from a dog.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Only problem B.J. is when there is a group and she begs each individual 2 or 3 times, that's one heck of a lot of treats..lol she sure knows how to beg

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

But she's not obnoxious about it... like some dogs are.
she's suttle, but clear about what she wants..

Had to edit to say that when we were all eating under the gazebo, she always kept her distance till we were done.
Now, that's a really good dog that will do that.

I agree, she was very well mannered dog. My favorite was her popping the bedroom door open and her nose in my eye to see if I was awake. She would lay down then with my hand on her head.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thank you, think she's a good companion, sure will miss her when her day comes to an end!

Debbie, when she was younger you would not see her without a ball in her mouth, I'd be laying in bed and as you say she would come and put her snout to my nose, in order for her to go away i would close my eyes, pretend I was snoring..she would stay for a few minutes then would lay down next to the bed, I'd have to make sure I would not stir or I'd have to play ball..

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

lol Sailor girl sure sounds like a well-behaved little lady. But intense about her loving treats and playing ball lol

what I learned was from yesterday, but here it is:
Well, found something nice happened to us yesterday.
Some of you will remember my "fight" with the City to get our mobile levelled BY the City......... they were saying it wasn't their fault our mobile's blocks were twisting, and "(we're) moving it in 2 years anyway, why not wait?!)
Our den's ceiling and walls were separating from each other and water was getting in behind the drywall, our bedroom was off level, etc, etc.
The City came by yesterday am while both Bob & I were at work, and They Levelled The Mobile! Bob checked underneath, and the pillons that were twisted are now straight, the ceiling and wall at one side of the den (where they were separating) have almost closed the gap, and the bedroom is now on the level (my dresser is level, for sure!).
Now Bob is going to tear down the one wall in our den and replace the (now wet) insulation and drywall, and replace it with plywood and screw it to the beams and ceiling. This will make it more secure and get rid of the wet stuff.
They have NOT contacted us to pay for the work. They'd said, beforehand, that if it were the City's issue they'd pay. If it were our issue, they'd let us know and we'd have to make arrangements with the company to have it fixed and pay for it. We never signed off to have the work done, and the City hasn't contacted us, so I guess it was on "their dime"! All I can say is "Yaaaaaaaaaaay!" and "it's about time our place is levelled!!"
I'm so pleased that I'm going to get in touch with our alderman and thank him, and the City. After all, when Thanks are due, they should be given, right? I'm just sorry for those others who aren't "squeaky wheels" like I am LOL
