What kind of music do you like

(Zone 5a)

sethsnana your right, I love Foolish Heat. There are so many that I love that it is hard to list them all. I have a lot of the original albums, and 45's. Some days when I get in one of my moods I play most of them, I still have a record player. Hall and Oats, Tina Tunner,Credence Clearwater Revival,Del Shannon,Donnovan(love Sunshine Supperman), Whitney Huston,Bobby Brown,The Temptations,The Crest,R Kelly ( I Believe I Can Fly), Leo Sayers( When I Need Love and You Make Me Feel Like Dancing)
I am sure that I left out a lot more of them but I love everything except rap and hard rock.
I also love a Willie Nelson (Always On My Mind) love it, love it, and (To All The Men, I mean All The Girls I've Loved Before) one of his song titles lol

Wow, the world is odd. I just got a van Gogh calendar and was thinking about the song about Stary, Stary Night - and wondering where I could find the words -- and low and behold, Mike has them right here for me! (BTW, it was van Gogh and Monet that introduced me to gardening)

... oh, music - I listen to just about anything. No rap, no opera, though. Loud stuff when I drive my DH's F350 and get a contact testosterone high - mozart, wagner when I'm feeling clarinet-y (One of my DD's is a clarinet player). Cartoon theme songs when I'm feeling silly.

BTW, Azalea, I also went to college in Stockton, CA (and then moved to GA, although I'm back in the San Joaquin Valley, now). Where did you go? I went to the Univ of the Pacific (although I didn't grad).

Toby Keith, James Galway (sp?), Reba McIntyre, Yo Yo Ma, Skynard, White Mansions Oppereta (Waylon Jennings, Jessie Colter & others), West Side Story, My Fair Lady, Nat King Cole, Hank Williams Jr., Journey (my first "rock concert" when I was 16 - I took my little sister for her bday), the Eagles, Montgomery Gentry, Brooks and Dunn, US Marine Corps Marching Band (I just love John Phillip Sousa - did you know he was a Marine? I guess I was destined to marry one...), Francis Scott Key (at high school football games, recently, it appears I am the only one who knows all the words to the Star Spangled Banner :-(, Fats Domino - Blueberry Hill! mmmm!, Doris Day... and, although I'm not a big fan, I did spend all night in line with a bunch of teenagers (mine) to get tickets to the backstreet boys concert a few years back... and, since they weren't driving yet, they paid for my ticket and I drove... Sleeping Beauty (the ballet), Camelot (Ok, I know, Richard Harris doesn't actually "sing", but, well, King Arthur doesn't really need to sing...) ... more, I'm sure...

Ok, enough rambling for the moment (sorry, I was ill for a while, and hadn't gotten my full doses of DG - now I think I'm on hyper-drive today, spewing postings everywhere!)

Blessings.

Karla

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

I luv my lion king cd!!!!! =]
Kazaa-is where we download songs

(Zone 5a)

Does anyone like Color Me Bad (I Want To Sex You Up} boy did that song ever send me, the Old Bucket would find somewhere to go when I would play it or Barry White's (Practice What You Preach) or anything by Barry White. He knew that he was in for it lol.

Longview, TX

kmom...Claude Monet is my favorite artist. I love his work. I really got to know his work the past 2-3 years or so. His work makes you want to go out and PLANT more PLANTS....hahaha. I like just about any painting he does. Van Gogh has some great work too. However I dont like all of his stuff. I like more impressionist work, and renassance....I know I mispelled that, sorry. The old religious paintings just really bless me. You know when they used to paint the cool halos around Jesus, and the Virgin Mary? Those are AWESOME, wish I could get some made for my wall one day. Having those copies made up at places like Deck The Walls is too high dollar for me!! (esp when I spend most of my extra cash on plants)

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Some of van Gogh is too depressing for me, but he coerst me into growing my first irises, so I put up with his moodiness :-) ... I saw a documentary about Monet's gardens a while back - wow! I can just feel them in his paintings. I'd love to have my living room wall painted like one of his paintings ... I do have some posters and many calendars, but I can still dream... my DD saw some of his paintings when they came to San Francisco a few years back - she says they are even more remarkable in person. ...oh, tying this back to music... uhm, makes me think of vivaldi, The Four Seasons ... or Claud Bowiling & Jean Pier Rampal - Toot Suite: Jazz flute & piano.

Eagles,
Love Heavy Metal, Guns and Roses etc, love most kinds of music
but love the ballads too, the likes of Johnny Mathis, Frank Sinatra etc, and i love the old rockers my favourite being Eddie Cockran. and when our gang of mates meet its a rock and roll time, my kids know all the R @ R numbers and i used to dance with them when they were little, yes put the music on loud and off we go, ah happy times now the kids just love rap and garage music, mind you they have all left our home now so do miss the ceiling going bang bang.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

oh yes, for the days of 'turn that down'!!!! The only time our speakers get a workout now is when I have to get the steam rolling to clean, or workout some anger, and then I have to be alone:)

(Zone 5a)

Love Simply Red's If you don't know me by now, and Queen was the best, We are the champions ( he was reffering to me lol) I just loved Freddie. I cry every time I hear Nat King Cole and his daughter sing UNFORGETTABLE, it is so beautiful. I only wish I could have paid a tribute to my dad like that.

I love Monet too. I have a perpetual calendar and each month is one of his paintings. Let's save up our money and go see his gardens. Would that be awesome or what! vic

Longview, TX

vic....that would be lovely...what an awesome thought!

Like I say I don't feel older just nostalgic.

My list could be a mile long as I have boxes of LP's,45's and a few 8 tracks.
But my main amount now is on cassette, I am trying to convert over to CD's but this is a slow process.

Today was a country day for me.

Easton, MD(Zone 5a)

WOW !!! What a huge thread.
I like all kinds of stuff, especially Contemporary Christian. I also like big band, and yes, Harry Connick, Jr. My husband sings JUST LIKE HIM. No Joke! That's one of the many reasons I married him, hehe.

DH and I really freaked our teenage son out the other day with our completely spontaneous, word for word rendition of "Rappers Delight".

I said uh, hip hop
uh hibba to da hibba
duh hip hip da hobba
ya don't stop the rockin'
to the bang bang boogie
said up jump the boogie
to the rhythm of the boogie da be.

What a classic. HA!

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Wow! I haven't even put my two cents worth in and there's this great thread going right here. OK..here goes...I'm a 60's and 70's singer/songwriter fan at heart. James Taylor is the man! Saw him live in 75! No need for me to get the Greatest Hits Cd..already had the originals.
'I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend, but I always thought that I'd see you again'

Jackson Browne ranks a close second.
'Keep a fire burning in your eyes..pay attention to the open skies...you never know what may be coming down.I don't remember losing track of you..you were always dancing in and out of view...I guess I thought you'd always be around...making things real by playing the clown..now you're nowhere to be found.'
Love Dylan, Cat Stevens,Jim Croce,Gordon Lightfoot, and of course Don McClean and the ladies too...Joni Mitchell,Buffy St.Marie,Carly Simon (my sheltie is named Carly) and Carole King. They wrote some of the most heartfelt lyrics ever penned.
I love Stevie Ray Vaughn,Carlos Santana, and Eric Clapton.
All incarnations of Crosby,Stills,Nash and Young (Byrds,Buffalo Springfield,Hollies) They make great music together and individually.
And Bob Seger (notmartha...I'm surprised you didn't mention him!)Love the Moody Blues..I'm probably one of the few people who have their entire collection.
Now you can probably tell how old I am!

Longview, TX

melody I saw James Taylor around 84 or so...he was so wonderful...He put on a great show...it was one of the biggest shows Ive seen....it was in NJ when I was in the navy. I also love Carly Simon. I saw Ricki Lee Jones there, and America and several other good ones...Where Im from in Texas we dont get good concerts like that around here....:-(

Just clicked onto this thread and read justmelisa's question about the Texas Tornado. Lot's of stories about this...my first husband grew up in San Antonio with Doug Sahm ,Frank Marin (he played sax with the Sir Douglas Quintet back in '66) and Johnny Perez. Back when I was a traveling nomad hippie (with my first husband) we went to Taos in the summer of '66 and ended up in San Francisco (Fairfax) for three months. We rented a house with Frank Marin and Doug's band. (picture of the bunch here: http://www.austinchronicle.com/issues/dispatch/2000-03-17/portfolio5.html
Doug was living south of San Fran with his wife, children and mother-in-law (Violet). Quite a busy household. He was much a family man. I remember he always put Scope mouthwash in his bong to keep his voice smooth. (Probably shouldn't mention that, but those were the days of wine, roses and....) Being a very shy person, I never attended concerts (all those people). The group was playing at the Fillmore one night and wanted me to go...no way. So I stayed at someone's apartment in San Fran by myself while everyone else went. Later that evening, some of them came back with a new bunch of people...including Pigpen of the Grateful Dead who begged me to come to the concert...still, no way. When I left my first husband I left most of all that behind (no regrets). But now I do have some rather colorful memories of those much more innocent days and using my selective memory switch, I can enjoy them...
Favorites?
BOB DYLAN, Credence Clearwater, Grateful Dead, Eric Clapton, Janis Joplin, Tracy Chapman, Joni Mitchell, Willie Nelson, Pink Floyd, Cat Stevens, the Beatles, Rolling Stones, enya, Native American flute music, Eric Satie, Aaron Copeland....probably a lot more here but this is just for now.

Blum, TX(Zone 8a)

I like the tear-jerkers of red sovine, the bare foot stompin cajun music, oldies but goodies, country and pop.bluegrass especially ricky skaggs. cowboy ballads as marty robins and michael martin murphy, the honky tonk angels: loretta lynn, emmylou harris. dolly parton.Ohhhh! my willy nelson ,merle haggard, george jones ,hank williams, well there are so many I really can't choose as you see!I keep remembering someone I left out!Makes me want to put on my CD"S bye now!
