Thanks Allison for the link. I'll have to figure out an organized way to reduce resolution, but it's odd that it happened all at once.
Garden Gem May 2012 #2
Wonder how Redchick is?
I think Victor kept in touch with her for awhile. Not positive tho.
RC was nice!!
O K I have a question for JM people.
This is my Syriuse and its really big in its 3rd year. I know a mature height could go to 10 feet but want to know if thats just the branch part or trunk too?
It is low hanging on the border and I fear it will make too much shade.
Should I trim it at the first branches? I just hate to touch it.
I did keep in touch for a while, but she stopped replying.
Rose, we do get together at RUs, and exchange plants.....no one seems to have planned any for this year, but my door and gardens are always open to whoever wants to come, & I have plants to share...I don't have neat gardens...they are wild & weedy....but if you'd like to come, just pick a day.....Jo, I'm sure you can do a little trimming on your JM, but I'd be afraid to ruin it by doing major cutting.....ask Bill!
Thanks Marilyn. I have a question out there for both Bill and Victor. I hate to change the shape.
joann not sure how much shade seiryu will provide as the leaves are small. you can trim some of the lower ones if it is a problem. i plan to trim some branches off of mine in the future once it gets established in its new spot.
regarding redchick - she had pc problems and $$ issues and fell of the dg grid. stayed in contact a little while although that fell off a long time ago. did request that she be the one to pick out my jm order at greer's this year and recieved real nice trees.
A real shame to loose track of her.
I will wait until early spring next year to see what the branches look like. they determine the sculptured look of the leafed out tree.
Thanks for putting my mind at ease.
very jealous of your ruby falls jen - mine died down to its base this year - wish rb's were hardier
I hope mine lasts for awhile, I'd be very sad if it died
i think you are all set with your zone.
oh good
I noticed today that the redbuds by the post office had strangely shaped trunks from all the pruning off of dead stuff.....
Jo your JM is lovely!!!
Looking good Jen, love how dark that Ruby Falls is!!
I prune off JM branches if I do not like the shape - once the tree is established. I will be more daring on seedlings, as they are freebies.
I once told my wife she needed some selective pruning. I am still healing...
{insert obiligatory "Oh Victor" quote here}
edited because it stripped out what I wrote because I used the less than and greater than signs (which is used in html and css code)

JM's are so pretty. Consider yourselves lucky you can freely grow them!
My cornus kousa is sorta blooming, even though it got a hard prune last year (changing from a shrub to more of a tree).
Yarrow and sage that I have in the front. Sorta a funny pic - ipod touch doesn't have the greatest camera and it does weird things with the sun on wet plants.
A portion of the sunny bed I have in the backyard.
Some moss next to river rocks on my stream. I love the way the moss grows on the stream.
I was reminded of the post someone did recently asking if a flower really got the color that was shown in the picture. This is the same exact iris, same (lame) camera, only I changed the lighting. It was drizzling and the shine off the water made the flower silver instead of purple (see, lame "camera" - ipod touch). So I moved my umbrella over it in one shot (#1), then carefully took the other w/o so it would minimize the silver coloring (#2).
One looks more blue than the other.
Way to strip, Eve! ^_^
Pretty shots.
The big mophead hydrangeas have more blooms than I have ever seen!
Evie, the garden looks wonderful.....pretty blue on the sib.....Victor, my hydrangeas are just getting leaves....
Wow - really?
Kousa seen while driving to Dr. (in many places.)
My red heuchera (firefly) has several stalks in bloom. red astilbe is hiding behind the daylily foliage. Perhaps taller next yr.
Thank you, Marilyn. You live a little far. Do you ever come to the beach, or to the casinos? I live close by.
Today a lady that has been gardening for forty years invited me to go to her garden and she said if I liked something, she would share with me. It has been raining a lot, but at the first opportunity I have, I will go there. I think I will ask for scented plants.
Lovely sage Evie
Rose, if I head to the beach, it's usually Hammonassett, which is closest to me....have only been to the casino once....I won 1st prize at our Fireman's Carnival which was an overnight trip for 2 to Foxwoods.....neither my late DH or I gamble, so we went to Mystic Aquarium instead.....had a nice dinner and room at Foxwoods....also went to the museum there....
Marilyn, maybe one day we will visit a nursery close to the beach. It is doable for me.
it is pretty RD.. can you containerize it?
Thanks, Marilyn! I love my yellow baptisia. That one is 'Solar Flare'. Only problem is, it needs to be staked. Both 'Purple Smoke' and 'Twilight Prairie Blues' do not need staking. 'SF' looked fantastic until we got the rain. Now it's all flopped over. I'm bummed!
I remember Redchick, Jo, and I love the hosta you got from her. Very nice.
Jan, I also love your huge hosta leaf. Nice!
Rosemary, my photo album program, Jasc Paint Shop Photo Album 4, is great for reducing the size of my photos. I just pick a whole bunch, then it will resize the whole batch for me. I usually do 800x600 pixels, and they seem to upload quickly at that size. I'm sure most photo programs will do the same, so that you don't have to do each one individually.
Karen
Thanks, Karen. When my brain fuzz clears, I'll take a look.
i use the app canon supplies to downsize my pics
Anytime, Rose! Allison, I think that campanula would outgrow the container in a season....that's how quickly it spreads....one little plant gallops along! That said, I think I'll try it....
The fairy area is so cute.....also love Midnight Rose....one that I don't have...
