Coffee Break # 79

it's just craziness!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Wowzer! In my last year of teaching high school English before leaving to go to law school, i made 14,000 with 10 years' experience and a master's degree.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wrong place, wrong time, Louise. This is why I pay more in property tax than in mortgage. Sickening.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Yeah, it was in North Carolina, but I think good teachers deserve it anywhere. Too much is expected of teachers these days. Tough job if you are conscientious! A good teacher can change lives.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Teachers should be paid well. Just a question of what 'well' is and what the tax burden on the people is. Teachers here make over $110K (masters, certification, etc.) and pay NOTHING into their health and pensions. That is just way too much.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Oh man, don't get me started!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

And would they take a cut, or even a freeze, to prevent layoffs after this year and avoid closing two elementary schools (including the one my kids attended)?? Nope.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I don't even want to tell you what Jeff makes as a teacher of 4 AP courses and he pays about 40% of his medical. I don't know the exact amount, but it's less than $40k. He teaches at a private Christian school.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, I really feel for religious school teachers.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

those are crazy salaries when you consider the free benefits

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh, man, Jan, that's deplorable. That's not much more than what I make.

Karen

He considers it a ministry. That's why we do framing on the side when he has time. We have to be able to visit the grandies all over the country, don'tcha know!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes it is. No doubting their commitment. Always admired my teachers in Catholic school.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I agree, Bill. It would be different if they paid into their benefits.

Karen

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yeah when our governor wanted them to start paying into their benefits(paying INTO not ALL ) you think he asked them to cut an arm off

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Yikes! We pay a lot into our benefits. Too much. Then copays and deductibles and whatnot. Can hardly afford to get sick or get my teeth taken care of.

Karen

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

well I passed my test for work.. came out 5th in line.. but ahead of everyone I work with up north.. 5th is not too good unless the others ahead of me say no to the position... doesn't sound good

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Good luck. You never know.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

thanks.. it's political too .. unfortunately.. a guy has held the spot up north provisionally .. he came out towards the bottom again.. the last time they demoted him ... let the list expire and gave him the spot back provisionally .. of course on that list I was next in line.. got the shaft then... most likely will get the shaft now too .. I don't have the high power buddies like these other guys do

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

That stinks Allison...hoping for the best though!

Thomaston, CT

Not a good situation, Allison, but I'm afraid many jobs are "Who you know..." Can't believe the salaries for the middle school principals....my DH made about 1/6 of that with 35 year of seniority!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

That stinks but you never know what they'll do

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

don't know how long they will try and cover up him holding that spot when 3 people in the north scored higher than he did.. just one of them needs to start screaming.. if I scream don't think anyone will listen unless I had a lawyer.. then I go on that "list"

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I have another great nephew Isaac arrived today 8lbs 3.7ozs 21"long

Thomaston, CT

Yay, Jen!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Holy cow!! What an ordeal!!!

Thomaston, CT

Awful!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Crazy. I watched the series called Monsters Inside Me on Animal Planet and that eliminated many countries from my To See list.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

That is just sad, she was just doing what she loves and wham!
Ha ha ha Victor! Me too!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Didn't go hiking because of the weather but the group did go. My friend emailed to say he came home with 10 ticks!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

ICK, now I am feeling crawlies all over. Oh, wait maybe that't the PI.

Thomaston, CT

Tick check was negative today!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Allison, if you know where the four people ahead of you live, maybe *accidents* can happen to them. ;) I hear castor bean seed muffins are yummy.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

oh no no... karma baby.. karma... I totally believe in that!!!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Today is a big day....baby Adam goes in this morning early for surgery to remove all of (if possible) the tumor from his brain. He will be in surgery for 8 to 9 hours, please pray for him if you got a minute.

My Aunt passed away in Feb. but we didn't have a service as it was winter and half the family was in warmer states. The service is today and to be honest ....not a good day for me. My mind is on baby Adam, but I guess if I need to be SOMEWHERE ...church is a good place to be.
On the sunnier side of things, I get to spend today and Sat. with 4 of my brothers. ^_^
