I thought I'd start a new thread as the old one was getting long.
Bear and I took a walk today and I got a good picture of him drinking his favorite thing Puddle water.
NE Pets forum #20
Hello, Bear! You're looking good! I should have taken a walk with Jerry, but I didn't.
Karen
Love his color!
I was just thinking the same thing, the brindle is beautiful!
Nice day for a walk!
I've been trying to spend more time with Harper, she is having a hard time without Atticus. She is adjusting but still pacing some and definitly still looking for him.
Love the Bear's color, Harper and Abby are both brindle.
glad to hear about Patches!!... and Celeste what a boo boo face he has... feel so bad
How big is Bear? He must weigh over a hundred pounds? So many pets didn't make it through the winter. It is so nice to see all of these beautiful creatures in pictures.
Quick notes:
I'm glad Patches is on the mend.
Cyrus has such a cute face.
Bear's white paws are cute; I remember reading that horses like pond/puddle water due to the mineral content, which is why you see them paw at the sediment under the water to stir up fresh "vitamins."
My dog doesn't drink from puddles, streams, or ponds...barely drinks from her bowl....I feed her ice chips every day so she'll get some water......Bear is so pretty.....almost looks like a leonberger.....
kids left out one of their sleds, Wall-e was drinking rain water out of that, LOL
Poor Harper. She'll get over it soon. They bounce back a lot quicker than we do, especially when they have us to love them and keep them company.
Patches will get her staples out on Thursday. Looks like it's healing up well.
Karen
Cyrus went back to the Vets, they took the sling off. His hip has gone back into the socket and seems to be staying. He has to be careful for a few more weeks so no running, playing ball or rough-housing. His hip socket is very shallow so unfortunately he has a 50/50 chance of doing popping it out again. :(
Oh, I sure hope it doesn't happen again. Poor guy. Sorry that had to happen to your sweet baby. I'm glad he's on the mend. That was quick.
Karen
I bet Cyrus is happy to get the sling off.:-)
Have they given you any kind of physical therapy to do with him? I dislocated my knee when I was fourteen and was in a cast for seven weeks. After I healed up they wanted me to walk and otherwise strengthen it. After it settles down I'd think getting him as strong as possible would help keep him from hurting himself again.
To Rosemary: Bears weights 110 pounds the last time he was at the vet.
Poor pooch, but he must be happy to get use of his leg back
My nephew's dog dislocated his hip too, he's had nothing but problems since they got him, he is a tea cup(I think) Yorkie, only top out at 5lbs...I really don't think they should breed dogs that small unless you carry them around everywhere
Cyrus is free again! I too would wonder what kinds of exercises might be good for him, especially as he grows.
Bear weighs the same as Cliffie. It took a while getting used to having a pony-sized dog walking around the house. Cliffie's head is higher than the kitchen table. Still, it's a lot of fun having a big boy dog. When you give him a hug, you know you're hugging a creature with real substance
He alternates between sleeping on the foot of the bed and beside the bed. I usually curl up with him for a little while when we go to be. I least I don't have to worry about rolling over on him and hurting him.
Guess not! We had two jail breaks this week. Cliffie wanted to go out the front door and pushed his way past the people standing there, which he could do easily. Normally he's very good, but we hadn't taken him for a walk in the neighborhood recently. Runs in the fenced back yard don't replace neighborhood walks.
Hurray for Cyrus!!!
Isn't funny no matter how much exersice the get in the yard a walk is always the best.
a shame they can't do anything for that Celeste.. but I bet he is happy having that sling off
Wall-e has been acting weird all weekend, sleeping a lot & didn't even want to go outside and play
ut oh
Is he eating Jen?
Glad Cyrus is on the mend.....Skip, one of my airedales, suffered from mild hip dysplaysia his whole life....he was on Rimadyl, & it must of helped because he never stopped running....but then he was a dale! No sense.....I'd love another large dog, but don't think I have the strength to handle one anymore......even when I was much younger, my 120 pound wolfhound pulled me down occasionally.....
Yep he's eating
It's all in the training, though, don't you think? If you have a huge dog they shouldn't be allowed to do that. Wall-e is big enough(85 lbs) esp when my daughter was smaller, we taught him not to jump up...he'll come running at you full speed and at the last minute sit his butt down right next to you...never plowed anyone over, now being the doofus he is he might have turned around real fast and butt bumped my daughter over but not intentionally
Nora wouldn't do it intentionally....she just was too strong!
Cliffie would never hurt a person, but he did break a rule and push past people to go outside. Usually the training works, but I don't hold a lemon-sized brain against anyone, dog or human. Course, that doesn't come up her at DG.

It's more than just exercise. They want to know what is going on around them in "their" territory. How dogs divide the world up isn't how we divide the world up. I know the division line between My dog and the two hounds two doors down is the driveway of the in between neighbor. I know my dog just has to go for a ride to see what is going on.
I agree. When we adopted Cliffie, Jean Donaldson's book "The Culture Clash" was our best source for training because it discussed dog nature and human rules with an effort to bridge the differences.
Cliffie had not been around humans at all except in a wire cage for the first two years of his life, so there was a lot he had to learn about humans. Fortunately he has been a good student. During "stay" exercises when I might leave the room for fifteen minutes, he does sometimes forget, but even that is improving. When we first got him, he had terrible separation anxiety. He's still partial to one daughter, who slept near him his first two nights here. It will be hard on him when she leaves for college next year.
Maybe Cliffie could go on little vacations to see her! I went out to eat last night, and as we were leaving the restaurant a couple was standing on the porch chatting with someone....the couple had a 10 week old black & tan coonhound...it was being held like a baby....OMG, cute was not the word! I would have taken it in a minute....of course, they grow up to be huge & drooly......
Oh I like them!!
If DD goes to college in Ohio, it'll be a long ride for Cliffie to see her. She knows she'll see him more if she stays in the Boston area for college. I'd kinda like it if she gets her teachers cert. in MA too
Cyrus has such a good mommy! What a sweetie he is! I remember how hard it was to keep Bailey and Carli "quiet" after they were spayed. Good luck, Celeste! :)
I love the black and tan coon hounds. Beautiful dogs. I love bloodhounds, too.
I hope Cyrus is doing well, and Wall-E, too.
Patches had her staples removed today. She is healing up beautifully. Doing so well. I'm really happy.
Karen
glad Patches is healing up nicely...
Michele brought Riley to get fixed today and he had to stay overnight .. might have messed with the stitches and wouldn't stop bleeding.. gave him vitamin k and kept him overnight
:(
Oh, Allison, I hope he'll be okay. Poor baby.
Karen
she is going to call me in the morning and let me know how he is.. she is a mess
:(
OH no Allison I hope Riley will be OK♥
Karen gald to hear Patches is healing up so well!
Jen how is Wall-e?
He's still acting mopey but eating but just not wanting to go out when we think he needs to go out, LOL maybe he's just getting past that teenager stage
