Whats New March 2012

Williamstown, NJ(Zone 6b)

If it is a standard pussy willow. I think it will be fine.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

The ones that grow wild here cant be killed.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

in any case it was a cheap one.. it was supposed to be french pink.. what ever that is... $3.00 when I bought it.. was just a twig.. we have another on the other side of the property that is ok.. can always do a cutting if not.. I just like it in that spot since it's a wet one.. and Randy loves it.. as well as the birds & hummers.. it had a big root ball still attached .. just have to wait and see

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Doesnt the waiting drive you nuts? Why did I choose gardening when I am not a patient person.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

not sure.. but yes I am an impatient gardener myself.. amazing I don't have a breakdown waiting for some of these seeds to grow .. LOL

Williamstown, NJ(Zone 6b)

I am not good with seeds. The waiting kills me...lol
I look everyday to see if anything came up. Give me plants already growing, much better.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

if you need an instant gratification seed.. grow 4 o'clocks... they don't muck about

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

My imaptience is better now that daffs are peaking up and tulips are 3 inches above the ground.
Its January and Feb that seem endless and year before last with record snow that stayed until the end of March I thought I would need to shovel off the lawn so I could see green grass.
Just sprayed Liquid Fence to keep deer and rabbits out of the gardens.

Thomaston, CT

I'm hoping to get my peas in this week....supposed to be 70 by the end of the week!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Lovely!!

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

I've got crocuses up in the back yard.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks. Really like the 'wings' of the RI.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Next year, I'll have to have some RI. The pics make them look so desirable. They fill a yearning at this time of the year. I want more varieties of crocus, too. The white color is nice.

Durhamville, NY(Zone 5b)

Crocus leaves are just poking up in the yard. I can just see little red ends of the rhubarb.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

No flowers yet...but when I see these guy I know it won't be long. ^_^

You were in Rhode Island??? LOL

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Victor, I'll have to hire you as a tour guide...

My parents were both born in Brooklyn and I guess once they moved out of NY they never wanted to go back, never took us to see anything... But I'm not a fan of crowds so never went back on my own either...with exception of a couple of places

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Went for a walk today and a house down the road has Vinca blooming, isn't this early???

Sure thing, Jen. We could meet up on a weekday if you can get away. Much less crowded. And the free tours are given just about every day.

My vinca has been blooming for weeks.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

spotted the first wood ducks of the spring in our pond - mama was flying up to different trees and checking them out.

Thomaston, CT

Oh, I love wood ducks.....you're lucky to have them, Bill.....Thanks, Victor, for posting the crocus...I went out, & here they are!

Forsythia's are starting to bloom. Is it rose pruning yet? Mine are starting to really grow.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

can crocus get deeper in time.. seems mine are awfully short this year

Thomaston, CT

I've started to prune roses, Marie....

Williamstown, NJ(Zone 6b)

Ok, I will start this week. Mine are already putting out new shoots, some an inch long. I am always afraid of how much to cut back. What is a good rule for knockouts and carpet roses?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

mine for today.. my RI are just starting to poke up

JEALOUS!!! LOL Lovely!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

the dark one is really nodding this year.. in past years I could just bend down to get the photo.. as you see I had to pull the bloom up.. but that bud was formed when it was still getting cold ... wonder if that makes a difference

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, pull up your bloomers, Allison!! ^_^

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

sometimes you have to!!!

Williamstown, NJ(Zone 6b)

Roses pruned and Thursday is cleaning up the mess. I have a bunch of flowers being delivered this weekend or the first of the week that i got form a co-op. More fun to come trying to figure out where to put them..lol I see a new bed being formed.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I was thinking the same thing about the roses, glad that question was answered

Williamstown, NJ(Zone 6b)

I just read that when it comes to pruning Knockouts and Carpet Rose's, don't fear just cut . Or cut at least 2/3 off.
I went to town on mine. I did not cut much off last year and they were kinda tall and straggly. Not thick with blooms at all.

Mine are about 12 to 15 inches tall now.

Cutting hard never hurts them.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

saw a crocus in bloom on the other side of the wall that abuts the yard - not how it got there?

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Squirrils most likely.Bill.
My hellebores are blooming seems like overnight with warm rain.
I also see the difference in Kathrine Hodgkins and Frank Elder. Frank is whitter or lighter. KH is more blue.
