Hello All,
We just had our concrete slab poured in our backyard. I want to border it with a conc paver border. Our privacy fence borders 2 sides of the slab, and is 3 feet away on those 2 slides. Along the fence, the height of the slab goes from 4" to existing ground to 17" above existing ground (in the corner). Since this border wont get any traffic here is what I want to do.
1 - I want to run pressure treated planks along the fence to to keep the soil from seeping through the fence slats and run it high enough so that it is level with the slab.
2 - Fill the trench with soil, and compact it thoroughly.
3 - Add about an inch of sand and compact that (i think)
4 - Place 12"x12" pavers.
I have heard from people that I need to add some type of aggregate. Do I need to do that even though it wont receive any foot traffic? What about drainage? The entire backyard drains to the corner. Would I have to worry the soils under the pavers eventually eroding away?
Thanks for taking a sec to read and reply. If I am missing anything, let me know. I have attached 2 pics so you can see the project area.
Thanks
KState
Need help building a paver brick border along conc slab
Too complicated to write all the instructions required but when I was in USA years ago I purchased a book from the bookstore that also sells coffee (don't know IF your allowed to mention a company by Name) anyway the garden section is full of these books on Landscaping for beginners and they take you through every part of the work, what quantity of materials you will need and the best way to lay the foundations etc. Believe me it was for beginners as even I managed the job.
There's books for all different aspects of garden landscaping from making furniture, trellis, ponds, laying out lawns and borders, they are not expensive and are a mind-field of info, I am one of those simpletons who needs to hold the instructions in my hand and read and re read as required to get my brain around the proper way to go.
The books in question are paperback and have many garden landscape projects that are laid out in the one book so who knows, get the hang of it and you may find yourself with a new career ha, ha, ha. Good luck anyway and hope someone either comes in to the forum to help you better than I can or you get advice locally from someone who has done the same type of work. best wishes. Weenel.
Here is a bit of info for you...the gravel base recommended is for drainage, whether you walk on the pavers or not.
