New Year dinners

Thomaston, CT

Sounds healthy!

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

Oh, I thought that you might be suggesting that menu for our dinner table. Not good because I'm sure there's no sinful desserts!!

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

Well, I think they've recently been serving a sassy little 2011 Alfalfa (KY, Elkhorn Valley).

It has a nose of barnyard and summer pasture - can be a bit musty on some bales. Full and long on the palate, though a bit green and vegetal. A robust finish - quite dry. Age-worthy. Consume now through May 2012.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

LOL!

Westbrook, CT(Zone 6a)

A taste of the Urals at home tonight...
Mongolian Beef with Mushrooms over Rice (P. F. Chang's recipe)
Petit Peas
Baby Lettuce Salad
...too stuffed for dessert.

Thomaston, CT

Sounds yummy, Don!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Ah - well you guys live in the right area for that job, VV. I am sure the prize thoroughbreds eat quite well.

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

This weekend if I can find a cabbage suitable for stuffing, will do it.

How do you separate the leaves? Par boil? Core and peel? Freeze and thaw?

Instant rice or long cooking?

Ground beef or ground pork or veal?

Do you add chese to mix and if yes, what kind

Last- do you add fennel or dill to the water?

Do you simmer on stovetop to cook the stuffed cabbage or bake in an oven?

My MIL added some cider vinegar - do you?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Par boil
either rice
mixture of all 3
no cheese
no fennel or dill...what that heck? LOL
Slow cooker/crock pot....or you can do a cabbage casserole(no rolling needed) in the oven

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Splash of red cooking wine, not vinegar

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I like the cabbage casserole idea, thanks Jen

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

This Sunday is my brothers GF's B-day, I was going to have a Barbie cake made for her, it was all ordered from my cake lady Jen. His GF collects Barbie Dolls from all over the word so I didn't dare buy her one so I thought of the cake.
Brother calls Monday night and says she picked up a double shift for Sat. night working into Sunday morning...can we do it THIS Tuesday? Poor, Poor Jen....she cranked this out in about 4 hours, not happy with her work she only wanted to charge me half of the normal price. I paid her the normal price plus $20 extra just for saying yes to such short notice!!!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Nice cake!!

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

Really pretty!!

Thomaston, CT

Wow...can't believe someone made that! Rosie, par boil the cabbage but then put it in cold water to stop cooking & make it easy to handle....I use reg. rice, hamburg, chili sauce & onions inside.....bake it a combo of tomato sauce & grape jelly.....

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

grape jelly!!! I bet that sweetens it up good. chili sauce --didn't think of that either. sounds good.

I did freeze it last time - it worked great the leaves just peeled off without breaking. BUT - I was really delayed in getting started because I should have done it ahead of time - it took forever to defrost.

boy must have been a battle with that cake...would hate to cut it ...but what a wonder was waiting inside! a real dilemma!

East Bridgewater, MA

Draping the fondant on the cake (the tricky skirt portion) is as lovely as the rest of the cake, esp. on short notice!

Thomaston, CT

Cooking short ribs for dinner with leeks......

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

If you were hungrier - long ribs with puddles?? ^_^

Just a quick hot dog night. Son has his band concert.

Thomaston, CT

Oh, good luck to him!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Chicken cacciatore...husband like it but not me...good...leftovers for him next week, and I can eat my tilapia.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

LOVE chicken cacciatore!

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

I forgot about chicken c. Mom made it a lot and so got tired of it. Now chicken marengo I love! Stick it right on the hips please. If I make a cacciatore, I'd use turkey leg and wings

Looking at infant cribs..... I guess sides lowering not allowed any longer?

No more real wood unless you want to mortgage the farm. It's not like baby will use it for that long.

my mom made the BEST

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I like it.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Only tried it once, didn't care for it, I brought it home and made it into soup.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

def depends on who makes it, I've had it at a restaurant and it was just not like mom's

My friend made shepherd's pie stuffed potatoes for dinner yesteray, man that sounds good...once again a meal I like and hubby hates

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

It's weird about the CC I love peppers and onions together just not with the sauce and chicken I guess. Love it with sausage.
Not a shepherd pie fan either, can remember having that as a kid and gaging! LOL

Leftovers tonight, meatloaf, taters, corn and salad.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

don't remember peppers in the cacciatore

Thomaston, CT

Parent's are responsible for that chicken nugget habit.....you have to offer lots of choices, & make sure she's getting fruits & veggies even if they're "hidden".....pot luck at church tonight...I made potato salad....

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

ewwwww, chicken nuggets from McD ALL her life?????

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Seafood Chowder, ate 2 bowls...should of gained at least a pound with all that cream & butter!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)
