Spending spree #9
celeste you will have to tell me about pixie dust - love picea glauca's and do not have that mini - sounds like a dwarf rainbows end which is a real nice one. skylands has been tempting me for a few years, nursery down the hill had several for 50% the last couple of falls - not sure i had the space so passed.
Celeste, you need a golden dawn redwood!
i agree :)
I agree too. LOL
I have $125.00 gift cert. for Longfellows Nursery http://www.longfellowsgreenhouses.com/plant_guide.php
and $200.00 for Lowes, think I can have some fun with tree's and shrubs?
Wow....no one ever gives me plant related gifts....hello....where am I all summer? In the garden! Louise, hope your plants are OK.....temp should moderate today....wish I was picking green beans, toms, & tangerines from the yard...sniff....Pixie, how exciting about the house....just think of all the new garden space.....
Yay...all the plants looked pretty happy this morning when I uncovered them...thanks for the good wishes, Allison and Marilyn! No need to cover them tonight! I am relieved that the weather will be really nice (mid to upper 70's) on Monday. Hank and I are going to take an all-day cruise up our River, then across the Inland Waterway into Lake Okeechobee. It should have great bird-watching potential. :)
Happy shopping, Celeste! I had a nice HD Christmas gift card that I blew through in record time today! I got two pretty drift roses, a red mini rose and a fox-tail fern. Now I have to find time to plant them. ..too busy having fun playing. Lol
Hoping to limit my FW order to no more than five plants. My 'like list' is currently at 17.
Break out that shoehorn!
Can't find on Fairweather website when open house is, do you know?
Not announced yet. First is usually in March when hellebores are in bloom.
Ah, thanks
Are you coming down for one? She asked expectantly. :)
If you do, please plan on stopping in here. That offer goes for anyone.
5 catalogs where in the mail yesterday - they all have many folded pages just for fun :)
I'd like to come down for one
Bill, that's exactly what I did last night, and like Victor, I can only choose a few......hard to do! Louise that trip sounds awesome, & I wish I was along....not many birds here this winter, & I'm missing them.....
saw a red bellied woodpecker at my bird feeder but I startled him and he flew away
Making my Fw wish list also. Hope to see you, Jen then.
flowAjen, We finally have birds back at the feeders and in the rosa rugosa including a wood pecker today here too. DH thinks it might be a Hairy but we usually have Downy's. It is nice to see cardinals, jays and all the others as they have been not too interested in our feeders as long as they had plenty to eat in the bush.
I am working on my lists too, but with house remodeling going on in Vt, I have to be very frugal, which in not my nature. Just pricing faucets, ouch, I could buy some really nice Jmaples instead. Patti
FW seems to be offering fewer conifers this year.
Have been wondering about the VT house progress.
I have only narrowed the list to 14. Not doing too well!
One on the list is a nice-looking star magnolia called Two Stones. I am assuming it is a male. ^_^
Jan23, thanks, the work has started again after the holiday break. They have framed up the rest of the exterior walls and framed the porches. They are going to put the plywood on the roofs tomorrow over the kitchen, bath and porches. They already have the carriage house ready to go for the insulated roof panels. Then they can put down the new standing seam roof over everything. The windows and doors are ordered so they will go in soon. I hope the snow holds off.
Then the real fun begins. They can snap the lines for the cabinetry and we can then order it as well as the counter tops and island. Making progress, and going broke. But seeing all kinds of landscaping to be done. Rock walls!!!!!
Victor, good luck with editing. 2 stones is one Wha should have. Patti
How nice to see that lovely home taking shape....quite a project! The neighbors on either side of me had a great deal of damage to their magnolias from the 29th storm....not a twig gone on mine, so no looking at them....I need to find a nice crab to replace the one the birds loved.....
Looking good Patti, can't wait to see the finished project
Don't you just love the smell of fresh lumber? Addition is looking good!
patti call dan snow he is in southern vermont and does some fantastic things with stone
That is looking great!!! Woohoo!! Fresh cut lumber does smell good. So exciting to see the progress. Praying for the weather to cooperate. Good to know there is someone wha would recommend that may be close.
I do love the smell of lumber!!.. very nice Patti.. always tough for workers in this weather.. can't wait to see it done!!!
I was thinking the same thing, very hard on carpenters in this weather. Talking from experience, I married one. ^_^
I love the progress so far, can't wait to see it finished and the landscape you plan. :)
The house looks great!!
I'll agree on the smell of lumber, grew up with it my dad was a carpenter too and my husband sort of followed in his footsteps! LOL
Just ordered some bulbs from Holland Bulb Farms. They have free shipping for orders over $35 until tomorrow.
Those carpenters are tough cookies and all very sweet and patient with this squirrelly job and with me. They seem to be enjoying the mysteries of the house, but I am sure they will be happy to get inside with some heaters on soon. I am going up on Monday for a couple of days after I visit with the doctors in Boston. I expect no surprises at either site! I think it has been too cold to smell the wood, but I do love it when I can. I think that is why we mulch the garden beds for that same wood smell each spring aside from keeping down the weeds.
Today I am on my way up to the Brookline studio to get busy glazing the tiles I want to make for the kitchen, which might just be a pipe dream. I will take pictures of the Vt house and maybe post some shots of my latest pottery work. Have a good week end all, stay warm (DonnieBrook too). Patti
Victor, Crossed posted, but not looking.....evil man. Patti
FW list down to 10. Excruciating! Will end up violating my five plant goal.
after saying i would be good this year i ordered 5 jm's today from topiary gardens, might add one more - most are 7 - 10 gallon - Diana does a great job packing and freight charges are the best out there.
after victor, celeste, and patti starter the annual spring spending bonanza i broke down - all their fault - that is my story and i sticking to it - now to figure out where to plant these new additions.
You're a tough nut to crack, Bill! ^_^
Victor, that Holland Bulb Farms has "Nymph" VERY CHEAP!

Thanks. Will try to add it. I ordered some lilies and missed that!
