Love the windmill Jen! :)
Sorry your sick, i've been down too but not sick...pinched a nerve in my back. Can only handle sitting @ the PC for short periods, the spasms become unbearable if I sit to long and I hate the meds they sent me home with!
Flexerall is a muscle relaxer that makes me feel like I have jelly legs and knees, jelly arms and cob-webs in my head. Hate that feeling!!!!!
Been looking at the seeds and plant flyers but don't dare order until the cob-webs are gone. ^_^

yup lots of catalogs - no orders yet and do not foresee any long lists this year just a couple of jm's :) still have a bunch of stuff over-wintering that i ordered in the fall that need planting.

South Hamilton, MA

Burpee seeds which I have recycled. White flower farm & Bluestone were here before Christmas.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Jen and Celeste - hope you are both feeling much better very soon! So tough to be sick or in pain and immobile over the holidays! Take care of yourselves!

Bill, how do you overwinter your plants? In the garage or under the deck? If you had to pick your hardiest & fastest growing JM 8-10 feet tall, with a fullness appropriate to screen a neighbor's junky clothesline and with very bright fall color, what would you pick? It will be for my son's patio area ( not a huge amount of room) in the Spring when we get back.

It's very hard to believe that our winter sojourn is almost half over! I'm loving the garden catalogs. Check out Hidden Valley Hibiscus website for some really gorgeous new plants. They can be used as annuals "up north" as they say here.

I'm starting my Acrylics art class next week, so I've been printing out a few photos from the farm to use as "inspirations" to copy, and boy does it make me miss the place! My spending spree recently has been buying all the art supplies for me and for Hank for his watercolor class. I got him a lot of the list for his first class next week for Christmas. Thank goodness Michael's has some good 40% and 50% off coupons this week! Art is almost as costly as gardening......ummmm, not really, I guess! :0

Got a ridiculous deal on muscari bulbs. Just arrived today. Warm weather will allow me to get them in.

Mom getting me a gift cert to Fairweather for my birthday so I will be getting something. A few small shrubs. No room for big stuff anymore, unless a tornado comes through.

Thomaston, CT

Sorry about your back, Pixie.....those meds sound awful.....Louise, I'd love to see what both you & Hank are doing for your art classes....post when you can.....I've picked out a few things....I love LA Dreamin' hydrangea....it's short, only 3' ... but I also like Rio....that's short as well. I saw a blue lilac that was nice, and a golden and red hellebore that I will definitely send for....also bought some DLs from Northern Lights.....the rest will be annual seeds for my cutting garden...oh, & lots of dahlias....

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

hello there louise say hi to hank for me.

i over winter mine in the garage. some other trees under the deck. for a hardy tree that size let me think about it. does he have a preference of the garage or under a deck outside?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Garden Crossings 15 off $100.00

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

It's my own fault I hurt my back....I picked up something I shouldn't have.
DGD shares a birthday with Victor on Jan. 1st, and I found what she wanted when I was in town. I got a sales person to put in on the cart for me but not one to help me once I got it outside to put in the car. I did it all by myself and now im suffering all by myself! LOL
This is what I picked up and threw around like I was Superwoman.

Nice!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Not your typical 13 year old girls birthday present. ^_^

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

How exciting, Louise! Both of you painting.

Feel better everyone.

That is an awesome gift, Pixie. Sorry you hurt yourself, though.

Looking forward to Fairweather this spring.

Geez Celeste

Just saw a dwarf Ninebark in Jung's catalog called "little devil" that may be the one I put in the berm to finish it off.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I saw that one too Jen, very nice!

Thomaston, CT

Yep, I admired it also! Great present for a 13 year old...wish my parents had given me sports stuff.......

South Hamilton, MA

It wasn't 'done' when I was 13. although backboards were just coming in. We played street baseball & football.

Thomaston, CT

My friends and I hung out at a supply reservoir in our neighborhood...now there's a huge playground there & the reservoir is fenced off.....I grew up at a perfect time....not too much interference from parents or town!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Fairweather website taking Spring orders now.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

victor, how could you! But thanks, well sort of. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee! Been browsing already.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I am working on http://www.arrowhead-alpines.com/ today, but will move over to FW soon. Patti

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

have you ordered from them before patti? not getting into conifers are you?

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Wha, No, conifers are a distant dream, mostly ordering primula from them as I have before as they have wonderful ones. Though I am going to dip into a couple other areas as they have interesting things. I have bought some unusual Eryngium, Iris and a couple of shrubs from them last year. I need some ferns for a new area on the north side of the Vt. house. It is coming along. I realize that I lied about conifers as we have added some over the last couple of years and someone just gave me a cute little guy, Juniperus connunis Miniature, that I will plant outside when we get back up into the 40's. So who knows. They just can't be enjoyed by deer so that puts a damper on many of them. Patti

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

thanks bbrook - i remembered you ordered primula from them - was curious about the conifers even though i do not need anymore right now with the bunch i have growing in pots from by over indulgence last year with stanley and sons

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Loved the conifers from Bloom River.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Looking at Fairweather now. Will have to order, then pick up at one of their Open Houses.
Very happy with the ilex I got there last year. Maybe a winter hazel.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

You're so lucky to live close to them, Jan!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Victor, you had to mention Bloom River didn't you? My damage goes like this.....

Picea glauca 'Pixie Dust' (of course)

Acer palmatum 'Sango kaku'

Acer palmatum 'Ukon'

Acer shirasawanum 'Red Dawn'

Vaccinium corymbosum 'Aurora'

Cryptomeria japonica 'Black Dragon'

Picea orientalis 'Skylands'

All to go down back by/near the pond. ^_^

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee! Nice! All are good for your zone? I have Black Dragon and like it a lot.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Yes, most all are z 5 on the JM and they are going in a sheltered area. There is birch, red maples, firs, spruce, pine, oak, ash ...you name it out there already. I'm just going to throw some color around the pond after it's done.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Oooh, you all are making me think NH already! We're having low 30's tonight and lots of things are covered. I harvested my first green beans, and a couple tomatoes in case the veggies don't make it. I also picked 30 tangerines and juiced them. Now I have to peak at those primulas, Patti! Oh, you are bad for me!

Sounds,like everyone's having fun shopping!

Pixie. That new pond is going to be gorgeous! How's the house coming?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

The guy will be here to pour the foundation as sound as the ground is thawed this spring. :)

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

That is wonderful news!!!!! I'm excited for you and the fun of planning everything.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Hope your plants are ok Louise... and sounds like fun Celeste.. yeah for you!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

It will be my summer house. That explains the plant choices. ^_^

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Good one, Victor!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Who's joking??? ^_^
