Love the pictures.
Daily Bird Pics #425
Very nice PW!!!
Wonderful pictures, you all. How I miss my Mourning Doves! Ducubucln I am glad to see one still exists. :) This was the first year in Iowa they were allowed to be hunted. Before I say anything unkind, I will stop here on that subject...
We just got back from our first time participating in the Christmas Bird Count. I am glad we went, but my legs and back are hurting something fierce. I've never jumped over creeks or waded through tall grasses like that before. We didn't often stay on the nice mowed trails. :) We only took a couple pictures and if anything they belong on the Dreadful picture thread. We did gain one life bird, a Long eared Owl.
Here is our Peanut on a hay bale. She was being feisty on a FeederWatch count day.
Tried to post a couple of times yesterday and the posts never appeared. I gave up thinking at some point in time, I'd see multiple posts???
Enjoyed the waterfowl pics, sharf. Resin, thanks for calling the mid-ID to my attention. Not my first, nor last. :-)
Haven't been taking any bird pics the past few days. I'll post one from this last May I ran across and venture out to call it a Swainson's Thrush even though I don't think they should be in southern Missouri in May. Taken near Branson.
Its very strange here, I have feed out and water and I have not seen ANY birds for a couple of days, not even sparrows! Granted, I don't go out looking like I did before, but have been kinda busy, but like I said, no sparrows, that is most unusual for here, what do you think is going on?
Probably plenty of natural food is left. We have our tube feeder up & unfortunately the squirrel likes it. should add red pepper.
Congrats on the scaup, duc. We've had one on the big pond for a couple of weeks. Raining today and tomorrow so no light and no birds in the yard. An earlier pic of a robin. We have a flock of several hundred thousand that winter in Norman. I see waves of them going over my house when they leave the roost in the morning to feed in rural areas and again in the evening when they return to roost.
Thats what I figured, this winter has been so crazy that the poor birds don't know what to do. It has been so warm and no snow that we are really going to pay for this nice weather. I have pine cones that I am going to put peanut butter on but I am not going to bother right now when they have plenty of natural food left. But the cones will wait until the first heavy snow falls and actually sticks for a while. Love everybodys pictures, but when no birds no pictures. Have a Merry Christmas, I know that it is not politically correct to say that this year but I am.
teddy the birds will come. I don't think that we are politically correct here.
Great shot of your robin Red. The most I've seen here this week is only 150, but I'm sure more will arrive soon.
Teddy, you also may have a hawk nearby.
My birds have been harassed by this same Sharp-shinned hawk every day for what seems like weeks. This morning I found him hiding under a tree and decided enough was enough. He was low to the ground so I went out the gate and walked right up to him-he stood his ground! Then three of our young deer herd walked up next to me and got to within 5 feet of him before he finally took off. I thanked my fur friends with a carrot.lol
Great start to the new thread with the thug, red. Spectacular sunset as well. Looks like a really nice place.
Duc, the shot of all those Hummingbirds sharing ports at a feeder is a real treat for someone who doesn't ever get to enjoy the little jewels in person. Also love the birdbath full of Bushtits. I wonder if your hawk is one that was raised by humans and released. It's uncommonly unafraid, isn't it?
The Pine Warbler is indeed a real beauty, Elphaba.
Nanny, I love the Pileated. Do you think if I put out a suet feeder I'd get one here?
Bsharf, they are amazing shots you've taken. Love the Green Heron.
Chillybean, when I first saw your photo, I thought the bird was perched on the back of a very dilapidated sofa.
Looks a bit chilly there, Burn. Your little Warbler is so sweet and I love your Bleu Jay.
Politically correct or not, Merry Christmas, teddy.
A flock of Red-tailed Black Cockatoos in the distance yesterday. There are numerous flocks around at present. I know they are in the more southern suburbs, but this is the first time I've ever seen them around our area. No doubt forced here by habitat destruction thanks to an uncaring government.
Everyone has made a wonderful contribution to this thread. You all are making it interesting for me to come see, what you've had added.
My hubby got a couple of suet cakes to entice the woodpeckers back, is it possible for seed in a tube feeder like mine to spoil? My neighbor said the same thing about the natural food left. Like I said before we are going to pay for this good weather, especially in December. I enjoy all your pictures and hopefully I can find the time to get some pictures soon, I am going to miss sitting in front of the door trying to get a good picture of our babies. But unfortunately bills keep coming and need food and a roof over our heads. So sometimes we can't do what we want to do. But will try to get some pictures, my hubby did say he saw a hawk over by the gas station and he was a pretty good size so that might be one of the reasons.
Beautiful pics Duc. Those bushtits crack me up too. Safety in numbers I guess.
Great shots everyone!
Cloudy here and even a little rain. We need every drop. Went birding yesterday anyway and took some horrible pics but must share anyway! The cloudy sky really messed up this pic but I love the subject -- a Vermillion Flycatcher.
Beautiful shots everyone!
Pretty Robin red!
Ducbucin, Love those Bushtits and the berry shots!
Wonderful flight shots of the Cockatoos Margaret!
Sweet Titmouse Countrymom!
Elphaba, Love those beautiful birds!
Elphaba, what wonderful birds you have in Texas! I am enjoying all the other birds, too.
We went on a tour of a raptor recovery place last week. I didn't take a lot of pictures, but got to see plenty of birds. I enjoyed the Barn Owls trying to put on a mean show, but they were just so cute about it.
This female Bald Eagle cannot see very well, so could not be released back into the wild.
One for Mrs Ed. Nankeen Night Heron. I had slowly made my way towards it through very long grass, hoping the noise I was making would scare any tiger snakes off. The Heron wasn't perturbed by my approach, but flew off when a man with a dog came to the edge of the embankment. This is probably the bird that's been hanging around our pond.
Love those Grebe chicks Margaret!
The Night Heron is so handsome.
