Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

OK - unsolicited opinion offered.

If you were from here, you'd probably say Chicken French was this:

Or this:

I'm in victor's camp, though. I'd like to know what the upstate NY version is.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Hee hee
It is breaded boneless chicken breasts cooked in a wine and lemon sauce.
I dont care for it because I don't like lemon unless it's dessert. I thought it was common everywhere, but I guess not.

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

I'd probably like the wine and lemon sauce. Should've known not to look for a recipe from you jokesters!! I'd love to have KFC in Paris, though. Jen, my family hasn't tired of that salad yet!

Thomaston, CT

I had chicken Francaise a few weeks ago when I went out to lunch with some childhood friends....it was delish!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

My mom liked chicken francaise. Smetimes it does get too lemony though and I love lemon.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

easy dinner.. perogies

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

EZ here too! Store-bought seasoned chicken and sides.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

nice!!!.. love those!!

Westbrook, CT(Zone 6a)

Todays episode in holiday dining:              "Not your Mama's Grilled Cheese Sandwiches"

They consist of slabs of herbed chicken breast and brie between thick slices of Tuscan bread slathered with apple-raisin chutney, Dijon mustard and carmallized onion, then toasted in a pan (we don't have a panini press). With an accompanying salad, a thoroughly satisfying meal!

(Menu courtesy of "What's Cooking Connecticut Shoreline", a this year's gift book already giving tasty returns!).

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

never heard of Chicken French but that sounds like chicken piccata to me, which I love unless it's too lemony

I need someone to send me dinner!!! hubby working late....no magic dinner fairy making dinner when I'm sick :(

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

hhhhmmm Don sounds good!!

Thomaston, CT

I'm going to make that sandwich, Don....Jen, sorry you are sick :(....I took my Mom out to lunch today...I had pork roast, mashed tatoes, & green beans....no cooking today!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Seems I've caught my wife's cold. Woke up with a sore throat. Hitting the peroxide gargle. Hope it works.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Hope it works too Victor....today is the worst I've felt all week....feel bad cause I was supposed to the decorating for New Year's Eve party at church...doesn't look like I'll be even going :(

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Hubby and kids went out for dinner...they better bring me back something!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Feel better you, two.

Roasted veggies and chicken.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Feel better soon you two!
We had pasta fagioli, salad and bread sticks last night, courtesy of Olive Garden & DH because of my back. ^_^

Since I'm on the mend medically, or just plain lazy, I had my favorite pizza/sub shop deliver a large pepperoni pizza, and 2 large subs, to keep on hand to avoid prepping meals.

By just keeping additional lettuce, tomato, and onion to round out a wedge of a (heated) sub sandwich, or a salad with pizza, I've cut my kitchen time down to practically zero, which has simplified my life. Also, employing temporary usage of paper plates, realizing it's not "politically correct."

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

Take care of yourselves. No need to feel bad about stuff you can't do. I'm sure you feel bad enough already.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Chiropractor manipulated my neck some and so far no more spasm. I have a cracked rib so he can't mess with my shoulders/back until it's healed. Still, I feel much better ... enough so I made a pot roast, taters, turnip, carrots and a mushroom gravy.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Do feel better. Perhaps it was early enough and the peroxide worked its magic once again.

Good to hear, Celeste. I plan to finally to try a chiro for my back.

Thomaston, CT

My brother & sister both have bronchitis, & I was sitting next to them on Christmas....I was at the doc's today for routine stuff, & I told him I was sneezing & had a drippy nose....allergies he said, & I guess he's right....I feel fine right now....went shopping to return a gift today in an outdoor mall I'd never been to....there was a Chipotle Mexican Grill & my friend & I ate there....I thought it was very good....had a burrito bowl, & there's enough for dinner tonight.....

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

This cold started weird, took a Musinex D to unclog my head today so I can at least breathe then I took a nap...LOL

Hubby just ran out for pizza

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Try the Sinus Rinse!

Victor---

A lot of people swear by the zinc ("Cold-eeze," etc.) if it is taken during the 1st 24 hours of symptoms of a cold; others have gotten mixed results, or no help at all from zinc.

Just wondering if you considered those zinc products, since they are running a lot of TV commercials this time of year.

One of my relatives tried them for 3 different upper respiratory "events"; they didn't help a bit.

Dinner: sub sandwich wedge with melted gruyere (sp.?) cheese, the roast beef is RARE (red) the way I prefer...don't re-cook the beef to heat, it ruins it.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I tried it years ago. Never helped me. The peroxide is the only thing that has actually stopped a cold for me.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Chipotle shredded beef is so good.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

For a cold, Deb?? ^_^

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Definitely!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Was using XClear, not really helping at all, that Mucinex D I took today was the first relief I've had

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

took a mucus relief(store brand of Mucinex) yesterday. It really helped things along. I can breathe much better today.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Are eggs still okay to eat if they have frozen?? I assume not.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

that Mucinex D is good stuff.. not sure about the eggs Victor.. I know that fake egg stuff from costco can be frozen.. not sure about real ones though.. and I always go for spicy foods when I feel sick.. cayenne pepper always makes me feel better.. I even put some in my soup now and then

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Were they precooked into something? I've had frozen quiche before

Thomaston, CT

I think only the whites can be frozen....hope everyone feels better soon!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Here's info for freezing eggs

Chapter 3 in the holiday comestible extravaganza:
     Romaine salad.
Pork loin (leftover from 3 days ago) with apple-raisin chutney (leftover from 2 days ago).
Hoppin' John with Grits Polenta (from the Better Homes & Gardens website), a traditional New Years' dish in the south.

I suppose it was really "Hoppin Jim" since I didn't have any hominy and used regular polenta, and also substituted black beans for black-eyed peas, since I remember one disastrous Hoppin' John recipe (from another source) using the peas. We took a large batch to a New Year's Eve party, which practically no-one sampled so we had it for every meal for the next week (urk!). This one was much tastier and more colorful, since it also included peppers, corn, carrots in addition to the beans and rice. (It must have been good since DW made a point of saving the recipe!)

Happy New Year!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

wow great egg info.. thanks!!.. Randy had his choice for new years eve dinner... he wanted chili.. have a big army pot on the stove!!!.. love the way the house smells!!!.. the poor boy needed a nap so I am waiting to eat.. most years when we are home I fight to keep him awake at midnight.. so I figured let him nap now.. LOL

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yeah have him get his sleep in now so he's up at midnight...

anyone watching Dick Clark's rocking eve? Anyone else think he should retire?

East Bridgewater, MA

Yes, Mr. Clark should retire gracefully.
