Yellow Buttercups

Mexicanum coming along Rita!

This is my Alocasia x robudora. I am keeping my fingers crossed for this Alocasia to make it to spring! It is a cross between A.robusta and A.odora; "One," of LariAnns' achievements!

Is that related to a Hibiscus Rita?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Harvey is quite handsome.

Sarasota, FL(Zone 9b)

Drew, I think that is the yellow version of my Turnera Ulmifolia, beach buttercups.

Didn't get to take much in the way of pics yet, but grabbed this one today...

I love that varigated Brom, Rita. Gosh Drew, that is a beautiful plant there you have.. good growing!

I love those buttercups, both of them.

Martha, great find on the Lowes Varigated Ginger!

My White Knight fromTropicman is finally about to bloom. I am so excited!

Thumbnail by joeswife

mjs, your new plant is real pretty.

Drew, since you have your fingers crossed, I'm wishing you the best.

Debra, your basement is a jungle and I love it.

Rita, thank you for information concerning the Anthurium I asked you about. Your Philo. mexicanum is growing very well for you and I've been very happy with mine as well.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Thanks, Rachel...I love spending time down there, especially when it is cold , raining and windy outside.. like tonight..

I had to cut the last bloom of the year from Golden Eagle Hybrid Rose..it was leaning out for me even..

Deb, if you want yellow buttercups, I have one I can send you - just let me know. Have a beautiful day, everyone!

Huntersville, NC(Zone 7b)

Great pictures Martha, Elaine, Debra and Rita!

Thanks everyone for the compliments! Martha, I bought a variegated ginger myself at Lowes about a month ago. It is beautiful!

Deb, you in the basement, and me all over my house. The greenhouse is looking more like a necessity than a want now! I would have to move as our H.O.A. would have the proverbial hissy-fit if I was to place one in my Backyard!

Rita, is that a v.Brom. or an v.Agave?

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

Yup, figured out with the huge discount on the Lowe's purchase...that V. Ginger cost about .19 cents !!
Homer, my brother used to live in one of the developments that you couldn't do anything...no fence, no this , no that...if you owned a truck it had to be kept parked in the garage, one reason I live where I do. Nobody tells me what color I can paint my house, etc.
Freedom !

Huntersville, NC(Zone 7b)

I hear ya!!! We were "young and dum" and saw a lovely house on a hill and "had to have" it! IF... the housing market ever comes back, we will probably do something about it!

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

Drew,
Actually thinking about this a bit...There are those greenhouses that attache to the side of your house...It's like a "half greenhouse" length wise ?
Could be "aesthetically pleasing" enough that you might be able to get the HOA to allow it. Could be worth asking about, would give you at least some more overwintering room.

Here's one site: I'm sure there are alot more out there.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I have found that if my neighbors do not mind and if they will send a letter supporting the project the HOA will often give in. We actually have deed restrictions about out buildings however and there are also regulations about how much square footage of the lot a building may cover.

Rita, that water lily is a tropical one called Afterglow. It is very pretty but it is too large for my small pond. If anyone has a larger water feature and can keep a tropical warm, they are welcome to it.

One of these days I'll have a pond...that is very pretty !

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Put your water lily in a 'pond'/pot by itself - my neighbor does this and it makes a nice display when it blooms - looks like a bouquet in a vase!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Alice, get a pretty crystal bowl at a DAV or Goodwill, put you lilly under a small lamp, it wil fouish, that is what I am doing, yours is gorgeous!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I do that with the mini liliesI have even done a large aquarium outside with lilies but I did not do my homework before buying this one it needs a huge pond. I had been buying from Texas Waterlilies and they are so good about indicating what is suitable for what but I bought this one elsewhere and that was my mistake.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

LOL Debra, this plant is at least 6' across and the leaves are probably 14" to 16" each on 4' stems. I would need a really big bathtub to being this one in.

Paula, is your pond done yet?

Blackshear, GA

Alice,
Yes it is complete. We got some rain about a month ago and its got a pretty good bit of water in it, but still a long way to go.

another shot...

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

OK, now that is a large pond. Even big enough for this monster lily. You want to try it? I don't know if it will make it through the winter but with a mud bottom pond it might. My tropicals always lived through the winter until last year.

Blackshear, GA

I'll try anything...lol. Its a little over three acres, I think and there is a little island on the left side. I would like to try to get water lilies and lotus started in the low side.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

OK, soon as I get those gingers dug I'll get everything shipped to you. What day did you say you have a truck in Savannah? Does the truck go anywhere else?

Be careful with lotus in an earth bottom pond, they can really take off and be invasive.

Blackshear, GA

Alice,
I would have to check with hubby. We have trucks all over the state of GA and FL.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Oh Paula, you have my dream pond!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Paula, I am in SC so I guess Savannah would be closest.

Huntersville, NC(Zone 7b)

Niiiice lily,

Niiiice pond!

Red Oak, TX

Hello Everyone!!

dyzzy, I know if I had waited a few more days it would have had a nice beautiful bloom but I am so proud of it, I had to show it off. Thank you very much!!
I secured the pot with a big washer on the bottom, leaving room for drainage.
I am rapidly running out of room in the hh and have to utilize all available space.

dyzzy, these have perked up nicely, Thanks!!

homer1958, thanks, that buttercup plant was a hitch hiker from Florida in one of my e-bay purchases.
I have not had the privilege of growing any of Lari Ann's new hybrids but have seen my friend Texasbigleaves grow them to a tremendous size.
I am also keeping my fingers crossed for your robusta x odora, do not only survive the winter but to grow into a monster.

That is a variegated Bromeliad "Harveys Pride" from Shirleygk(2077) on e-bay. I have only good remarks for her!!

I have completed bringing in plants and can pay attention to the A.Borneo Giant. Would it be advisable to move it to the GH that is kept over 55 F at night with an occasional misting and which is shaded for most of the day or keep it where it is in a GH that is kept no colder than 45 F and gets all day sunshine and the occasional misting from a garden hose?

This is a A Calidora x A.cadierii cross that my friend Truetropical made, I love when he plays in my garden.

ardesia, I am glad to know that your water lily is going to a nice big pond. Is there a special water lily you have in mind for a replacement? The Queen Victoria is what I would love to have but I would need a 5 acre or bigger, pond to have that one. lol

mjsponies, I love those deals,19 centavos. I would say that is the buy of the season!!
It is a very attractive addition to your landscape.

This is my new find, noid hoya $4.99

joeswife, we got down to 34 degrees last night, I thought of you going out at
2 am to plug in more heaters and wondered who else does this. You were the only other person I could think of.
I hope that everything is nice and warm in your basement garden and that you are enjoying all your brug. blooms.
Can you show a picture of your White knight?

RachelLF, please disregard my comments regarding the Anthurium chamberlineatum. I do not have that plant. sorry.

This is a new Epipremum 'Skeleton Key'. it is not very photogenic but is putting out new leaves and that is a good thing.
