A little touch of Ohio with a shot of a Ring-necked Pheasant. My first shot of one...funny Ive hunted these, raised a few as a teenager and even mounted a few dozen (taxidermy) back in the day.
Daily Bird Pics. Vol. #418
Great Pheasant shot Burd!
Really like the Grey-Tailed Tattler and a White-browed Babbler. Interesting names too.
I think my husband would call me a Babbler..... ;)
Nice shots Burd!!
LOL Nanny!
Nan, you and I are Grey-HEADED Babblers.
Oh my goodness, not TWO Babblers!!
I am behind on these. Very nice pictures everyone and congratulations ducbucln!
Talking about the Christmas Bird Count, we hope to participate for the first time this year. We did ask if we can be hooked up with an experienced birder as I am sure we would otherwise miss so much not knowing all the birds at a glance.
This is a Brown Creeper wannabe. And I thought it was at first as I was passing the window. Bummer, just a house sparrow.
My last one this evening.
Those House sparrows are driving me batty. We fill our platform feeder with peanuts for the woodpeckers and blue jays. Well, the house sparrows think they are toys I put out for them. They continually go in to grab the peanuts, but they do not eat them. They drop them outside the feeder (never back inside) or fly off to drop them elsewhere. I find peanuts in the strangest locations. Front porch, bird baths, under trees. At least I have seen the Blue Jays go under the trees to try and fetch a few.
The annual photo competition is open to entries. Here's a link for anyone who may not have seen it. http://davesgarden.com/contest/2011-photography-contest
Thanks for the link Margaret! Very nice shot of your Eastern Bluebird...Ladi_Burd!! Nice shots Chillybean!
Great shots guys!
Margaret, Great job catching all that action!! Thanks for sharing them with us!
Great actions shots Margaret! Wow!
Great action shots Margaret! Thanks for sharing!
Love the turkey on the wire! We saw a turkey in a cornfield yesterday...wish I would have had a camera with me!
Enjoyed the kookaburras, Margaret. They look like interesting birds, even if they are a pest at times. I still don't have hardly any yard birds. Had a half-dozen house finches and 4 bluebirds on the back feeder yesterday when a Cooper's Hawk took a crack at them. Haven't seen the finches since, but the bluebirds were back for a breakfast of mealworms.
Nanny-- glad you enjoyed. I got a kick out of this hen.
A couple of gobblers in the shadows of thick woods east of town, almost too dark to shoot, but Adobe helped me out.
I took a small milk carton, poked a small hole in it, stuffed an old rag in it, and put some water in it. Poured off the excess or it would have ran too fast, and hooked it above the bird bath, now the birds will see the water moving and maybe more winter birds besides sparrows will come to it. It does not drip real fast, so maybe they will like it.
I got behind again. Beautiful pictures all. Congratulations on the first sightings. Love that turkey on the wire Red.
Still having people come and see the Rusty Blackbird. Some people are coming such long distances this afternoon and I'm worried because she hasn't been here all day. Oh well, that's the life of a true birder-or so I'm told. Here's a Sharp-shinned Hawk that sat watching my feeders for some time.
Nice shots of the Turkey's Reddirt! Wonder if the one on the power-line knows that fried Turkey is just as good as oven baked.
Margaret great shots of the Kookabura and the Willie Wagtail! Shot number 3 it looks as if the Kookaburra is enjoying getting a free back scratch. lol
Duc, you know I love the variety of bird's you have...you have a great place, great shots as always!
Nice shot of the Carolina Wren nanny! Heard a couple myself today.
Well was able to get out and enjoy the sun and went to Sheldon's. Lots of butterbutts as usual also seen a Magnolia Warbler and a couple of American Redstarts. Start of with a shot of a lone Ruddy Duck.
