Alice, your Gardens inspire me as much as everyone elses' here. I just like the tropical look thru winter, and saving money by not letting them die .
Besides, some of my plants have been with me for a longgg time. LOL And, I have an empty basement, usually...
KayJones, your brugs are going out tomorrow, Drew your stuff goes out wenesday.
Hi Dale, is that an i carnea morning glory? your Gardens Rock. You Luck!

hope I can get this out before it freezes.. but I probably won't.
Tropical Garden #111
KayJones, I found the passion vine you sent me on the arbor last night, I had to cut it away from it along with everything else that was growing there in tubs and pots, so glad it made it thru the summer!
I was told not to save this jewel weed by someone, but it just got started and is the only plant that came up from the hundreds of seeds I saved from last year. No time for seeds..
Guess I will throw a blanket or two over the tomatoes now that they are throwing fruit, and the large lav moon vine and japanese gorys and summer squash all in one area, ( saving seeds) still have to dig up a bird of paradise plant and I think that is it. not bad, not freezing all week, and still time to enjoy the fall stuff.
Debra,
What is the yellow flower above? Do you have any seeds from that?
Debra you sent me seeds of that Jewel weed last year, I enjoyed it very much !
Debra, anything I have two of, you are welcome to one!
Emma sent me seeds of the yellow m.g., but I couldn't get them to germinate, no matter what I tried, so Deb, I will send them to you, since you are such a genius at growing from seeds - I just CANNOT grow anything from seed!
Hello Everyone!!!
It was a pleasure viewing all the beautiful tropical plant pictures. I saw quite a few new plants from Dale's pictures that I would like to have.
The last couple of days was very busy for me trying to get every tender little plant protected. I would swear that I will leave them out this time and at the last minute I would take them in.
I have no new plants to show but a few that were still blooming or about to bloom.
Double Rangoon Creeper has been in flower since spring, here she is putting out new buds. The single flower plant is blooming for the first time this year, but I don't want too over show the creepers. lol
joeswife, your yellow morning glory is a Superstar!! I like your mona, and will try them next year. The foundation repair people dug up and killed all my plants in one flowerbed that I will have to do-over. I'm not complaining though, I am full of new ideas and new plants to make it interesting. It was just a line of hollys nandenas and ferns.
Rita do you leave your Rangoon Creeper in the ground there ? If in a pot what size. I've got the single, it is just one year old so wasn't expecting blooms this year. It's in a pot and trying to decide whether I should put in the ground or keep in a pot and if in the ground just where I should put it.
Well the big frog strangler we were supposed to get has stayed to the south so far.
I have the double rangoon creeper, too. It's 5 years old and spent the first 2 years in a big pot and the last 3 years in the ground - nary a bloom. It's a huge vine, so I don't know what it's problem is!
Good morning!
I had to turn on my heaters last night, I was hoping for a mild winter.
I neglected to mention that the Musical note plant was from Rj.
mj, They are rapid growers. Both RC's plants are in pots where they get sun for most of the day. I have to take them in every winter, I am afraid of losing them if they were planted in the ground. I have seen several photos of RC's plants planted in the ground in Florida and doing quite well.
Kay Jones, my plants did not bloom for several years. After mentioning that fact to Rj, he suggested that I prune every spring and fertilize with Hibiscus ferterlizer. I have done so and have been enjoying bloooms ever since.
Almost time for a new thread, Anybody?
How bout a little help on #112 there Rita; Pleeeease!

Dale, I am pretty sure that is a Brazilian Tree Fern (though I am not that familiar with most plant's common names)... but its scientific name is Blechnum brasiliense, so it makes sense that that would be its common name.
Hi from chilly Salt lake City. Lovely pictures, everyone. Just hopped on my daughter's computer for a second to catch up, 'cause I missed my 'computer gardening' sessions and all you folks. Been out breaking my back planting and transplanting stuff here. Weather's been lovely in the daytime, I must admit, but the nights are cold and there's snow on the mountain tops already!!
Alice, I'll be glad to send you a start of my peacock gingers, but I think we'd better wait until next spring, now. It goes completely dormant i.e. underground for me even in Florida, so you'd have lovely leaves for a very short time if I sent it to you now. Unless you want to keep it indoors until the weather is warm again? Another suggestion, keep an eye out at Lowe's and HD - that's where I got mine. They were stuffed in a pot with all the leaves sitting vertically, but when I set them free, they covered about 4 sq. ft. and the leaves lay down fairly flat to the ground. Just peruse the tropicals section (as I'm sure we all do) for those pretty leaves, and you may luck out like I did!
I may not get on a computer until Monday night so have fun, all! Elaine
Have fun with your daughter. It has been chilly here too - finally! At least the mosquitoes have gone away.
Thank you for your kind offer but I am not going to add anything new to the garden until I get what I have planted and the maintenance work I need to do, done. This past summer was miserable, hottest on record, and the fall was worse than miserable with the mosquitoes. Also, the DH spent a week in the hospital earlier this month and there have been many trips to doctors since. I haven't been outside to work in months. So much to do and way too many plants to get in the ground or the house as the weather cools.
Your Looking Glass is looking beautiful. I promised a bunch of you a start of those funky succulents, sorry I have not gotten to that yet but have faith, I'll get to it.
Kona Coffee, which I thought I had lost, is making a comeback.
