Mj, those broms are great bloomers - I got a garbage bag full from a friend, plunked them in a corner and before I'd even placed them properly and scuffed some soil over the roots they were putting up flowers. That was a year ago in April and they bloomed again last fall.
Missed the blooming cycle this spring because they were too crowded, but as soon as I started yanking them apart to send around the flowers began to appear. I have two more putting up flowers now, and a whole new clump that might get going if it stays warm through November.
I'd like to know what 'Golden Dragon' is, too! Very pretty. I think Rita sent me a start of something similar, but the flower faded quickly from it's traumatic travel experience.
One of my bargain orchids I got from IKEA on Labor Day weekend is still blooming! However, the other is looking pretty sad with limp, wrinkled leaves. I've repotted it and fussed over it to the best of my limited abilities. Anybody got a 'magic bullet' for a sad orchid?
Tropical Garden #111
Elaine, the Brom is gorgeous. So is the varigated duranta. didn't know that there was one. Thanks for showing us.
Rita thanks, all the little pollys are holding their own. They like humidity I found. Like you, it seems like Spring is sprung and there is so much to get done before the cold comes. I have accomplished a lot with the help of my son.
I am glad I kept my two little cuttings going over last winter of this pleckanthrus Mona. It is now two huge pots of blooming plants.
Like RJ, I gave a small plant of clerodendrum blue butterfly to a friend, and she got it to a nice bush., loaded with blooms. It makes me hapy when I send something to someone and it gives them much pleasure. You have a true friend in mr RJ.
I saw the Cubanola domingenese on a website and lusted after it. It is beautiful.
My shredded white bit the dust. so did wretched mess, and wild thing.
Kaityln is making up for them, this picture was last night, tonight she has four more open, and is all perky with the tendrils going every which way..
I came home to a box yesterday and a box the day before, of plants I really adore. Thank You my wonderful Gardening friends. Everything is already potted up.I never heard of porter weed, and sure do love it, and look forward to growing it. So exciting!
Martha, I strung up some string for the pipevine and the I plantesis and now I will have a ceiling of vines as they have climbed at least two feet over night.
I had to corral them because when I walked into the room I felt like they were reaching out to touch me. It is amazing to watch them.
Drew, I got the big momma portera half way to the house, but my back gave out. Son will get her in tommorrow, I saw where Lime zinger and nancys revenge are in the same tub and have nice leaves. It has been about a month since i tubbed them up, so I missed them peeking thru.
jplunket sent that to me, as well as a duranta in a swap, and they are both so big now.
this is not supposed to be blooming right now.
Good morning, everyone! Deb, I looked up that Cubanola domingenese, too - I want one, but they are too expensive for my wallet!
Golden Dragon is all I've ever known it to be called but here is the plantfiles link

Debra Yup if that vine is happy, it will run all over your basement. Last year was it's year to get to climb up into the tree's and it went 30 feet up, jumped over to 3 other tree's before the freeze got it. Good thing I had a little backup pot to cause it did not come back this spring from the ground.
Rita...love the Orange marmalade Musseanda, maybe cause I love "Orange Mamalade" on my toast !! LOL
Ditto on the cubanola here, Kay. It's gorgeous, looks like a brug flower but the foliage is so pretty and shiny. The hardiness designation is Zone 11, so it would need winter protection here, and I've now got my hands full with tender plants to protect on the cold nights! Orchids and philos and begonias, oh my! Plus all my veggies . . . it's gonna be a busy winter if it gets cold!
Let's hope Rita does well with it, and maybe she will get some seeds to share. Plant files says it's easy to start from seed if you use them right away. Or maybe we should just go to the Dominican Republic and see it growing wild there.
okay i have learned about five more tropicals i didn't know existed. u guys rock and I thank the Good Lord I am here among you, to see these cool things!
My duranta erecta just bloomed and I missed it. wow. I can't believe it bloomed. was a little 4 inch thing when i got it lol.
you all have got me looking up all kinds of things, including the Musseanda..
they shouold use Daves Garden as a high school requirement class...
All are very pretty, Dale.
My variegated kumquat if fruiting...the fruit is variegated then turns orange when ripe.
Cassie, What IS that in your last pic ???
Good to see you posting ..
I think Debra can get anything to bloom in the house.
Martha, how long does it take for the Kumquat fruit to ripen? I have a variegated one that's had fruit for a couple of months, or more - still green striped!
Kay my largest ones are just starting to loose their stripes and getting an orange tinge to them.
Mine's in the ground, so I hope they all get ripe before/if we get a freeze, I think the cooler nights sets them off to ripening so hopefully it will be faster now.
Cassie, I'd love to know the ID if you have it of this one...
It really is gorgeous... Well they both are but this one is really really gorgeous LOL

Those are such pretty foliage! I do love those little peacock gingers. I have two clumps of them that bloom every morning, and have spread slowly to make the prettiest groundcover. They die back completely here once the nights get cold. But it's worth the wait for the lovely foliage when they come back.
Cassie, I will d-mail you when I get back from my trip next Monday. We need to arrange our trade! I'm hearing our first 'real' cold front is on the way this week.
Elaine
I am constantly in awe of how many plants Debra successfully fits into her basement, the size of the trees Drew fits into his house and of how many fabulous plants Rita finds in spite of her harsh weather this year. I feel like a slug when I read these posts. :-)
I almost bought some peacock gingers last week now I am sorry I didn't. They look so pretty but I already have so much to get in the ground before the cold weather hits.
My Citrus are all showing some color with the exception of the variegated lemon which is still pretty greenish. The grapefruit and tangelos should be ready by next month.
Candela, I can't wait to see that orange flower on your mystery calathea.
Alice... You are one of the best Tropical Gurus on this site. DON"T you forget it!
Alice - I'd bet Elaine would trade with you for some peacock Ginger!!!!
Alice, wait till I get the rest of my "Trees" in the garage this week!
