Any Help Appreciated

Denison, TX

Hi all -

I was wondering if anyone could help me out in identifying what these spots are on the hedges/shrubs in the attached pics. We have tried Bayer Systemic Fungus treatment (the one that you spray on the leaves...and another that you mix and pour into the ground near the base of the hedge), but neither one seems to have worked.

thanks

Are those fuzzy gray patches or dead and sunken spots?

Post a close up photo of the front and back side of one leaf if you can. The more detail the better.

Still thinking about these weird spots. They strike me as strange b/c they are not necrotic around the spots, no yellowing or brown spots.

Doesn't match powdery or downy mildew. Doesn't look like shothole fungus either.

Could it be environmental damage? Have you recently had your house or property with anything? Painted? Insects control? Could anything have spilled on this plant from above?

Are they by any chance underneath some pine trees? Those spots look like pine sap spots I've had on green plastic furniture and a rhododendron. At first I thought it was bird poo. >-(

hi and thanks for the replies - well after more research we are thinking it might be some form of powdery mildew, and are treating the plants accordingly

we started by completely removing the leaves that seemed to be the most affected, and treated the remainder with a mixture made up of water, baking soda, dishwashing liquid, and vegetable oil....we also trimmed out a few of the branches to open it up some and create some additional airflow...so far it really seems to be helping

Hydropinke - the spots are definitely fuzzy gray patches, but if you try to rub it off, i noticed that it also seems to have "eaten" into the leaf some as well, as i am unable to completely remove the entire spot. No sprays / insect control products have been used that i'm aware of.

Cheryl, there is a large oak tree, as well as a covered patio, which both keep them shaded pretty much all day.

Something I have been using against powdery mildew lately that has worked really well is a tea tree oil spray. I use about 10-15 drops in about 16oz water and spray on the affected plants.
