Coffee Break #64

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hardly equal players.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Very sad news.

No, Jen, one of our other sons. They have 2 girls already. 6 and 4 and a new house in Annapolis.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

The comparison is valid.

Thomaston, CT

My stepson's wife, who's in stroke rehab, called me at 6:30 this morning....I could understand every word, but she had no idea of the time...

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Good progress.

Two people had heart attacks during the NYC triathlon today. One died. The surviving one is only 40. Way too much stress on the body.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - just read that the Port Authority plans to increase the Hudson crossing fares by $4!! Will now cost $12 during rush hour and $10 off-peak to cross each day. And that is WITH the EZ Pass. Sick!!!

O'Bummer

Thomaston, CT

Yeah, that's steep....sounds like CT, where everything is increasing. Very humid for the triathalon today....too much respiratory stress.....We had a tri here in town a few weeks ago, one man collapsed & was in a coma for 3 days....my neighbor, an off-duty fireman, was credited with saving him.....

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

But these two collapsed coming off the swim!

Thomaston, CT

Wow....too humid to dry off the water, & limited their ability to sweat.....

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No - while they were actually getting out of the water!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Terrible, they were probably too humid in the water and when they came out they couldn't sweat, then they went into a coma and well..

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

And this is an 'easy' triathlon! Not even close to the crazy Ironman Triathlon, which is a 2.4 mi swim, a full marathon and a 120 mile bike.

East Bridgewater, MA

Perhaps we should be asking, "why."

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

... Yes, there's really no need to kill yourself over something like this. It's not like they're Olympic athletes who are closely monitored by the best athletic trainers and physicians in the world and go to training camps. We're talking about 40 and 60 year olds who are over the hill and trying to prove something... (ie. how stupid can they get).

Guess like everything else it's $ in the form of promotion and increased business for the city. I think they should hold that stuff in cooler weather and have canceled the event yesterday for safety reasons. Even then, it's unnecessary to hold such an extreme event in view of the possibly that some of these guys can drop dead on the spot because of it.
- I mean, anyone can exercise themselves to death but why promote the spectacle?? - I dont know.. people are just nuts, if they can't find one way to kill themselves they find another... bunch of wackos.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

From now on I'll be more careful as I lie down to take my afternoon nap!

I still don't consider myself "over the hill" but I am at the corner of Hill and Harper so I have to be cautious.

- I didn't mean you pirl, I mean those 40 something year olds who still want to fly faster than a speeding bullet and leap tall buildings in a single bound! lol!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I know, WC.

You haven't seen me run as I did the day I accidentally hit the wasps nest! I stopped leaping tall buildings in a single bound when I was 50. Now I leap ant hills when I'm energized.

Before age 30: the young folks are into competition (for better or worse on their joints and ligaments).

After age 30: it should be about keeping the body healthy for longevity.

Thomaston, CT

I live off of Hill Rd. also, Pirl.....never thought about til now! I think walking and gardening are the best exercises in the world!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Me, too, Marilyn. It keeps us limber and improves muscle tone as well as balance, which is critical to avoid falling and breaking bones. It's far better than dusting!

I am on Case Hill Road

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I prefer dusting

Can we believe the British Press? Time will tell.....

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I just don't get riots... destroy your own neighborhoods.. London is nuts right now

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Years ago, during the LA riots, they were burning and looting the shops they and their friends owned.

South Hamilton, MA

I guess if you are short 'things' some people will do anything. In London it looks like a 'protest' has been hijacked.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i saw the bear that attacked my birdfeeders this morning. It is HUGE!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I've witnessed race riots in the late 1960's and it's bad, - real bad. Gave me a slight idea of what a civil war is like..

I've also seen black bears in VA while training for the Gov't. Some of them were the size of Volkswagens with an avg speed of ~40 mph when running. One swipe of one paw with their 4" claws can cut you in half. By the time they get their canines into you you're literally dead meat.

(probably why I never saw a snake there, I was too busy looking out for the bears and the dog packs! lol!!)

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Wow WC you've seen it ALL, haven't you???? LOL

Those riots in London are CRAZY

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

... I've seen too much. :)

Keep the Bear and Riots. I dont even want to be in the same county.

East Bridgewater, MA

Dog packs ?!?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Most of the London rioters and looters are just punks taking advantage. Just like in Vancouver after the NHL loss.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm sure people who plan to see the Olympics next year are not feeling too good.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

- yes, wild dogs. we guessed they were taken up to the mts and abandoned by owners, They revert back to their natural instincts, hunt in packs of 10 or so, we usually saw them in the early am, sometimes with a kill.

- I think so too Victor, "thrillseekers".

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

'Or are you just happy to see me??'

- would have been better off with an ankle holster, dumb dude...
(now a soprano dumb dude. lol!)

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

hee hee

When I was in elementary school a boy got attacked by a pack of wild dogs about 3 blocks from where I lived, everyone who lived there knew that they lived down by the river and to stay clear of them but from what I heard he started to provoke them
