She's about to...62... Summer is here and it is HOT!!!!
Deb your double peach looks like my tree hibiscus. Got it years ago for 19.99 at Costco. It was three different colors twisted together, but 2 died out and the peach one is left and going strong. Every year when i have to drag it inside I think this is the last time. Then is start putting on buds and blooms for months.
Yes, I have a tree like yours too, it had three colors but fell over in a storm and one broke, so have two colors it blooms all winter, just got back from getting Fayes Peach hibiscus, it is pretty big.. will post pic of it later tonight.. the trees are now 7.50 almost got another one just to get the yellow back, but will wait and see if they go down lower..

Morning all, back in December my sisters and I had decided once a month we would meet a Moms and spend the day together well sadly we didn't get to do that with Mom because she passed away in January, but we decided to keep that promise and still get together. We have done pretty good at it, then my niece decided we all needed to go to the state fair together, we use to do this every year with Mom when Mom lived down there. So off I went yesterday morning to meet them. I didnt get home until 1:30 am...wowzer. I left a 6am..... I drove to my sisters house and then onto the state fair which is 2 1/2 hours from my house. It started out perfect weather and we went thru the buildings looking at 4H stuff, FFA, cows, you name it, then it started raining about 2pm, then the bickering started (like it does with sisters and mother) my 2 sisters and my niece could not come to a resolution where to eat, since it was raining and we needed a place to get under the cover so the choices were limited. But then the rain stopped thank goodness and the bickering stopped it was kind of funny actually. I thought well maybe we haven't changed much in all these years... ;) We hit every building, every show, a lumber jack show, a hypnotist show, puppet, only thing I think we missed were the pigs....We ate our way down the midway toward the carnival and walked around, no one wanted to ride anything but it was fun just to walk around, then at 7:30 we went to the concert. Lynard skynard was suppose to play along with the Doobie Brothers , but Skynard canceled due to illness (that's what happens when you go to see old people, my niece thought that was funny), but sisters decided we were going anyway, which was fine with me, not wild about skynard but I do like the Doobie Brothers and I am so glad we did. We danced and sang in the aisles the whole show...rofl. My niece was cracking up. The concert was over at about 10 and we went back to the midway and got funnel cakes and stuff and then left for home. We talked all the way back home, laughing and carrying on, another great memory was made and one I know my niece will never forget and one of those stories she will tell long after I am gone. Oh yeah she is 22. My sisters and I range in age from 69 to 51. Boy that looks funny when I write it down!
Joyce, really enjoyed sharing your day. Thank you for taking me to the fair. I hadn't been in 20 yrs.
I worked outside this morning expanding a raised flower bed. I am moving existing Iris and will add the new ones when the order gets here. Will also add just a few Daylilys in between the Iris, I'm hopping this will help to keep them separated. Then, praise God, it started raining. Now for the joke's on me!!! Some of you know I have an outside shower located between the garage and the sun room. There are two ways to get to this shower. 1 from the backyard, and the other is from the garage. I keep towels in a cabinet in the garage and all shower needs are always outside. In the towel cabinet is also where I keep my plant markers. Ok, rain starts, I put my markers away and get my towel. I'm going to take a shower in the light rain. (just love doing that) I'm in the hall, so glad to be taking off these black with dirt, damp with sweat & rain clothes, including my shoes. Boy this feels good. Naked as a jay bird taking my shower. Shower finished, raining just a little harder, moved my now clean shoes out of the way and turned to get my towel. O MY GOSH! The towel hook has no towel! It's on the hood of my car.. Now, remember the 2 ways to get to the shower...OK, I'll go through the garage and right up the steps to the kitchen....garage doors are up! Neighbor is sweeping her driveway that just happens to be across from mine.. Absolutely nothing to do but get those stinky dirty damp cloths and put them back on. O well, another lesson learned the hard way.
And how was your day?
Hugs.
Your backyard border is beautiful. I should be out working and I am off and on....rofl. We got alot of rain at my house yesterday which I am thankful for. So glad you got rain in Texas finally. Everything probably went into shock!
That mango hibiscus is beautiful, actually they are all beautiful. I have never seen a 3 color twisted hibiscus. I have a twisted but it is solid red. My starts are hanging on... fingers crossed. I am going to take alot more cuttings. I have been getting better about that thanks to Debra, she is my inspiration. So hopefully I will have things to share if they take.
roflmao....fay that is soooo funny. Never fails does it..... ;)
LOL Faye! you poor thing! well, the neighbor to the north has cut down the two volunteer trees in the fence, ( shade) and is now weed eating everything along the north fence line, hope he doesn't cut my japanese morning glorys ( last year he poisoned them) *sigh* I wanna move to the middle of nowhere usa..
Debra, I know exactly where you could move! 23 Greta Ln. Henderson, NC The house is for sale and I absolutely know you would have a terrific neighbor.
looks loverly, but a little out of our price range... LOL we live in a 68k house, Faye right now.. 1900 sq ft with a full leaking basement ( when it rains) for 29 yrs now.. ;D
Great story telling about your day!
Ok Debra, my loss. I was that neighbor.
OMG Faye.. You gave me my first laugh of the day. Been there and done that , but had forgotten. That is just so funny. Where the heck was Ray?? LOL!!!
LOL, Nita, Ray was in the back house putting the mower up. It got to raining so hard that he had to stay there almost an hr. Finally lol, now listen to this...Ray finds a raincoat in the back house, used it to stay dry as he came to the house, lol and guess what????? Ray decided he wanted to shower in the rain too. He remembered his towel, but when he reached for it...helloooooooo it raining out here, my towel is kinda wet! Oh what a fun day. Well it would be if my stomach would stop hurting.
Hugs everyone.....Susan, where are you?
Loved going to the Fair with you, happ. My sis and I never agreed on anything, except the fact that she was older and smarter than me. I guess you could say she taught me everything I know if ABC's and coloring in the lines count...lol
What a hoot, Faye! For both of you. I was sweating bullets out there the other day and thought about you and how fun it would be to have an outside shower like yours. Instead I just rinsed off from head to toe under the hose, clothes and all. The only time my fingernails seem to really get clean is when I wash my hair.
I'm still here, been cleaning out my kitchen top to bottom including the chest freezer (ugh, what a pain, but feels so good when it's wide open and I take a dive). We turned off our A/C a few days ago when night time temps fell into the 60's. Hubby's enjoying having the windows open, but with daytime temps still in the 80's, I feel like I'm sweating to the oldies. And you don't even want to know how many times I wake up hot during the night.
Faye, you and Ray are just two wonderful people that I would have loved to neighbor with.. I hope you guys find a water proof towel holder or something LOL
Hmm outside shower.. sounds soooo good.
Kids are taking down there deck and pergola next door, sure wish I could have said yes to the pergola wood frame, but Joe would have had a fit.. He wants to pour new concrete for the patio first..
I kinda like the plants growing up thru the cracks, moss grows in the spring time in them...
Great Blue is blooming..
Debra it is great living in the middle of no where, course I do have farmers that spray so I guess you can never escape unless you own a bunch of acres and you are in the middle. My acres are long a narrow but better than having neighbors on top of me.
Weather is amazing, but can't sleep with the windows open poor DH or poor me, he has allergies so down with the windows on the with air. Today is full of weeding and caring on. Hope everyone has a good one!
Ok, deejay, out with it, how in the world do you get a garden that weed free? My potted plants aren't that weed free. Beautiful. How is the garden room (garage) coming along? You will have your own place.
Morning everyone! Sounds like your all having a great time going to the fair, and dancing in the rain!!!
Love all those blooms! Very pretty!
Your scare crow must have had a haironing experience over the winter...rofl.
Your soil looks so fluffy ours is pure hard rock clay.... '(
Ok so I don't feel so bad, I need to get back out ther and get with it, you have given me new strength...rofl.
SANDY CLAY HERE I removed all the plants in that area tilled it good threw on some lime, moliglanite,? & BUG BE GONE , Tilled that all in & Replanted the plants & added the Mulch Lots of work to it but it did soften the ground allot. Even all the DL's That Still had Buds on them Had Bigger & Better Blooms when they opened after I Put them back in the ground . I cut off their tops so they would give more nutriance to the roots or so i hope .
Looks wonderful to say the least.
Well surprise surprise I knew the mgs were coming to my house but you know how time gets away from you...rofl. Tomorrow is our meeting but it won't be at my house, I will have it at the end of August so I have been a busy little girl, weeding, cleaning, and taking pictures so I can do some kind of handout on the tropicals.
Who was looking for an ee to use in a watergarden, cause while I was taking pictures I found a tag to ruffles and it says it need 1 to 3 inches of water over the top, apparently doesn't have to have that cause heavens it is barely gotten watered this year. Raise you hand and I will get a small piece in the mail to you. It is not huge probably because it didn't get enough water but big enough to share a small piece.
Hand waving in the air! How exciting. I have not gotten any new plants since I bought mom a hibiscus on mothers day. Just been too hot and dry to subject a plant to that torture. My pond is a different story .... cattails and waterlilies are growing.
remember i ask what this was I found it today while looking up seeds :)
it is
Melampodium paludosum “Showstar”
Medallion Flower, Butter Daisy, Star Daisy
Melampodium may not be an easy name to remember, but the plant is memorable once you see it and unforgettable once you grow it. 'Showstar,' is the favorite variety of the horticulturists because of its tidy form, continuous bloom and versatility. It is one of the easiest flowering annuals to grow.
& how it ended up in my pot of calla along with a green pepper plant I will never know :) but i love it :) & hope that it will make seeds for me to save for next spring :)))
Happy Gardening
susie
yes, it was tammie, I am sending her a black stem taro, too so she will be all set.
love those hardy hibs, Susie.
Morning all, trying to wake up and not being too successful at it...
Looks like I have a giant colony of voles...;( They have about wiped out a huge patch of daylilies I had, along with the lilies. Had the cat and dogs over there but no one seems interested in the holes. I did get everything weeded and cleaned out which from what I read will make it harder on them and the animals should see them easier. Can't use poison, it says it takes them eating it for 5 days, but can't risk the effects on all the pets....so I will keep searching for something to do.
Have a great day all.
Happ I Have 5 kittens & They take care of the voles around here & also the mice from the Barns so far that have found 4-5 that they like to bring to the porch play with till they die then seem to leave for me to take care of .but they do help with the vole problem for me . & Here I was trying to find homes for them :)
they are so loving , & love to get under feet :) but i would share with you :)
here is HIBISCUS KOPPER KING it might be MSp) well you all have a great day I have a garden to clean
deejay, I don't understand why my cat doesn't seem to care at all, except for maybe where the gardens are located or maybe it is too old to care. I seem to be reaching that stage also... ;) This morning on the hiway someone hit a cat and it must of been a mommy cause there were two kittens sitting by it. I swerved to miss them and then parked to try to go back and get them, but they ran into the brush! I waited and waited and didn't see them again. Sure hope they are ok today.
I have kopper king and the blooms are so puffy and fun.
Boy my heart isn't into this today at all.....
You need younger and more active kitties. They will get rid of them! Older cats don't like to hunt or play that much!
Yeah Happ my guys had a big fat vole up on the deck yesterday afternoon. It must have gotten away, because I didn't see anyone licking their lips and didn't see signs of a massacre anywhere. Outside this morning I turned around and they were both up in one of the dogwood trees. Never a dull moment!
Hello all, Well worked outside again today in that black soil...no, no, no, the black isn't my yard soil, that's red hard clay. the black I'm talking about is black gold, MG Garden soil. And yep, back to the outside shower again. Ahhhhhh, so nice to have a tower handy when the shower was over. Sometime back I think I posted a pic. of the expansion I was going to do using the garden soil (while still in the bags) to kill the grass. That bed is what I worked on for part of three days. Woo Hoo I finished it today!
