She's about to...62... Summer is here and it is HOT!!!!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

linda I will get them out to you in the am, please let me know how they arrived.
I had to cut down the tall 4 o clocks,, the heat makes them flop over bad..
brugs around the pear tree..

Ring around a pear tree a pocket full of posies....rofl, oh yeah that was rosie not pear tree. They look great like that Debra. I haven't let anything out in the full sun that are in pots, except for the banana tree and plumerias. Some like it hot....LOL I am just full of it this morning. Sure glad you got some rain, sorry to hear about the house and tree tho. That would be the pits.

Were any of you around when I posted pictures of my Buddha Belly plant? I mailed some seeds out a million years ago. Welll.....I have been repotting ee's and stuff and have been watching this plant growing in my gingers. I finally figured out what it is. The seed pods from the bb explode and scatter quite a distance, well one of those little guys made it to the ginger pot and is growing! Now just to figure out how to get it out of there without killing it...how fun.

I have been taking starts of coleus, ee's, hibiscus, you name it. We will see what happens.

Back out to play and kind of clean up, don't want it to get too late and I have a giant mess to rush around and take care of. Stay cool eveyone, we will hit 100 next few days and then cool down to 98! whoopie.... ;)

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Love that 4'oclock Debra. That is a really unique color. I still have your red anthurium that you wanted months ago. Finally got the mother plant divided and yours is doing well. As soon as it cools down sufficiently, I will get it out to you.

Happ I noticed the other day after you mentioned it, that my plumeria is the only thing that stands up and takes the heat. Everything else is wilted as soon as the sun hits it. The moonvine that isn't blooming is starting to take over the house. It is full of buds. If it ever cools down that thing is gonna be covered with flowers. I cannot wait to see it!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Neener what do you fertilize your plumeria with?

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Haven't fertilized it yet with anything Happ. I'm really new to this. Someone sent me a couple as a surprise and I haven't really done any research yet except about how to plant them. Any suggestions?

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I know nothing...rofl. Except that plum's love heat and easy to rot with too much water....my kind of plant...rofl. Mine do drop their leaves in the winter (I don't know how long you have had yours), probably because the garden room is only about 60, I do keep them off the concrete floor and put them close up to the furnance. Boy the inflos are sure slow to open up... I have a tiny one I just bought from a co-op, it is grafted which looks really strange, but it has inflos.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

my banana trees do not like the heat and sun, they are drying up even with damp soil.. *whine* 103 so far today .. supposed to be 110 on tuesday..

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I wonder if I should move my banana, it is in the sun, it is not as green as normal, but I thought I hadn't been feeding it enough......humm, now you have me wondering Debra. Dang I don't want to move it cause it weighs about 100 lbs.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

Susie those leaves look like something that belong to Rudbeckia . But the flowers look a little like strawflowers.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Really windy today like a giant blast furnance.....gonna have to water alot tonight. Spider Mites will be happy campers.... Crit says she sprays her spider mites (what sweet little pets, hummm didn't realize pets and pest were closely related!) with the cheapest window cleaner with ammonia she can find. So last night at the dollar store I bought cheap window cleaner with ammonia and after dark went up to my city barrel and sprayed the black elephant ear I have up there. Then went back up this morning with a little dawns early light and checked for more leaves that might have those little pest on them. This morning the big leaves I had sprayed last night looked fine, so far so good. It is called kona coffee and is really really dark and I really like it, so I hope I can get those pest under control.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

well, can't wait to see if it made it to 113 or not, it was 111 at 5 pm today.. * sigh* bringing in the special EE's right now. I almost bought a kona coffee at home depot, earlier this summer, but didn't have all the $$$ for it at that time. I really liked that colour.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Wow, I thought our 104 was HOT! Sure hope you did not reach 113!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

well we stood at 111 it is 100 out right now, but for some reason it feels cool LOL..
only 103 for tommorrow.. maybe it will really be 103.. got one area cleaned out and set up, brought in limeaide EE and the two buddahs hands and the buddah belly and desrt rose baby.. all under lights.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

How is your Sister doing?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

she is anxiously awaiting her operation date, the 23rd of this month. I am leaving to go back down there the 22nd.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Susie, you Father is a very kind hearted man. I hope I get to meet him some day. I probably won't, but it is okay to Dream. Take care.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Had to smile Deejay about finding something else for your Dad to pre-occupy himself with. My Mom did that, and I am sure someday I will also. I tried to take mental notes of things I won't do when I get older...rofl yeah right.

Debra you got a buddah belly to sprout? Did I tell you about finding one in the pot of butterfly ginger? I will gladly give you a piece of my spider mite infested Kona Coffee, hopefully without the spider mites when I dig it out of the barrel in the city this fall. Bad thing since it is potted in the city I can't cut all the leaves off to try to get them under control. We got up to 108 yesterday, but down to 90's today and they are teasing us saying we may just be in the high 80's or love 90's later this week. Course we can't trust these guys. Bet your sister just hates sitting and waiting.

Morning all. I am sleepy today, stayed up to late watching a thing on PBS about teenagers during the depression riding box cars. Amazing any families survived and the teenagers grew up as well as they did. Tough bunch of folks. My DGF loaded up my DGM, my 2 uncles, and my Mom in a model A and left Kansas going west. They lived in tents and my DGF would look for work where ever he could, then they would get enough money to go farther west cause he heard there were jobs. I can't even imagine, he had lost part of his leg when he was young, so he had widdled a wooden foot so he could wear shoes but most of the time he just had a peg leg like a pirate. He could make anything out of wood and I was told the story of my DGF with shingles thrown on his back hopping up and down a ladder without the peg leg to roof. He said my DGF could go up and down a ladder faster than anyone with two legs. But you had to know there would of been alot of people who wouldn't of even given him a chance. Amazing times, wish I would of known my Grandparents.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I would have loved to meet your GrandParents too, such a wonderful family history you have, Joyce. only 103 today, but windy, everything is beaten and dried. Brought in three more big plants tonight. yippie! They are already smiling up at the light shining down on them. ( I can't believe I am bringing in brugs already)

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Hi Susie, I am bringing in the brugs that are not in the ground, because I am going away for ten days, and the heat here is to much for them. I havn't gotten any Y's let alone blooms from the ones I brought in. They are all so happy right now. It might help them since it is cooler down there, to go ahead and produce for me.
Can you hear the thunder from here? It is finally raining, after gusts of wind at 70mph. West Wicita 20 miles from us is flooded LOL
YAY!!! RAIN!!!

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

Have a great trip be safe it is now cooler here this morning in the 70's . so hoe to get some gardening done today :) .

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Debra as hot as you have been nothing is probably happy out there. Maybe you will have a good August temp wise.

Cloudy here suppose to have rain/sun then rain/sun tomorrow...yes! 98 on Saturday but I don't care. Still have things to take cuttings from, things to clean up, and get things prepared to come in for the winter. Need to give all the plants the bayer all-in-one treatment to get rid of the bugs in the soil. It is suppose to be good for 3 months so by the time I bring things in late Sept/Oct it should still be working.

Anyone planting a fall veggie garden? I need some soil delivered to fill my raised planters then I think I will try. Never did one before.

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Happ I am trying one. I have kale, cauliflower, carrots, beets, spinach, turnips and broccoli going. Just got the corners for my raised bed for next year. Will have to do that soil delivery thing too.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Awk! We should be planting now? I am not ready as usual, really now?

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

Nice cool day today.. only 100.. it is amazing how 90 can actually feel COOL after being over 100! I just got gas and the wind was blowing and it really did feel just like a blast furnace.. hot and dry... you expect a continuous breeze to be at least slightly refreshing.. not at all. .. and I was in the shade. We have constant warnings to conserve electricity due to the strain. Texas is buying electricity from New Mexico and Mexico right now.. Thank you EPA for trying to shut down electric producing plants right now to improve air quality.. right now we need more electricity instead of better air. .. no one wants to be outside in the hot air anyway.. LOL I lived in Los Angeles.. now that is some lousy air quality!!!!

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Hello hot ladies( well if you are outside, you are) Still fighting spider mites here but I do have 2 Angels blooming. One is "My White" and I'm not sure the other, she is still changing. They both look sad because they are being sapped to death.

Faye how exciting! Angels and dragon flies and the US Flag, all in one visit to your place. Thank You! I am so happy for anyone that gets to see a brug bloom right now. Your white serendidpity just came in, ( it was a Y cutting you sent last fall, it is in a baskey with a morning glory vine, they are now downstairs and all prky, bet I get blooms down there before I do outside.
Joyce the lady at the feed store told me to plant now for fall gardensing, DH says no way.. we have not seen any tomatoes , green beans or cukes or squash yet, he has given up. 99 for tommorrow that is kind of normal temp I think..

Hey all you hotty tots.

Those are beautiful pics, Faye. Love the shots of the dragonfly. They usually don't sit in the same spot long enough for me to snap a pic..... you have more patience than I do

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

so while I was out front bringing in the begonias and moving the milk n honey, I heard this little shrill song, then when Imoved a pot out into the grass this little frog went hoping away, it was a tiny tree frog. I now know what one sounds like. I am so happy, but it was kind of dark and I could not see it real well..
thee are trees snapped at the base all over the place here in this area from last nights storm, 12000 without power, and several buildings blown to bits in one gust at 70mph.. thank fully, nothing in this yard was broken.I can't figure out this weather, why we can't have rain without wind? I did find three, count them three red mini romas on a struggling tomatoe vine, I am starting some outside to bring inside for winter growing.. I have this ugly basement, might as well turn it into a tropical / agri green house right now..
