Now that I've posted photo's of the Elvis Festival I attended yesterday and probably made it a bit difficult for those opening the thread thought I best move us over into this room..will enjoy it as it's cooler, some rain forcasted etc.

Best/Worse/What did I learn today?Chat with friends
Nannabooboo,
I first this time!
Betty, love all those photo's. Looks like you had a great time, and look at all the eye candy!!!
Love that tattoo!
LOL, Betty, your Elvisfest sure looked like loads of fun.
wow great tattoo of the back butterfly...And how impressive for the little bitty Elvis!!
OH gosh...walked away for a sec and forgot i was posting, walking around getting things back in order, vacuumed and dusted Sun room
Good golly I've some serious dust bunnies!! LOL, out came the wonder cleaner...
Back to check out the posts..did have a wonderful time, things is the event as least for me (lol) is hands on (not quite) but you see these entertainers from year to year and believe it or not many remember..it's just a fun day though long..
No sooner finish the Elvis Festival (which one day you all must come to enjoy) that it's our long weekend and Kempenfest on Barrie Bay..ooohhh more metal are just wanting to come home with me..smilling as I type..thought I might have to drive about 7 hrs. on Saturday and then another 7 home to help Jeff out but he and Julie would not let me help them out...so guess weekend is my own.
Cathy must have thought we might get rain because guess who was out enjoying themselves while the little elf cut her grass!! Too kind..
Suzanne is suppose to be on holidays but she already went to the city re work emergency and is in working for a few hours...girl never stops..we do have a friend coming in from New Brunswick next week so perhaps she'll take a day or two to spend with Marie! Told her I was going to take her keys away so she couldn't get into the office..
Holly, so glad to see you post, love the gazebo, so inviting..what happened to makeRic, fall??? drats not good, ribs take so long to heal. Greenhouse can wait till fall right? Have you found your working at in the nursery fulfilling? what you expected? ohhh now you have dollars for scuba diving. Would you do it again next spring? What kind of treatment did you give the slab to have it have to cure for 45 days?
Judy, sounds as though you are going crazy cleaning, what on earth are you using girl, send some over, could use some myself. Jacob will so enjoy being away, aren't you thrilled he's so involved in sports vs. hanging around on the streets?
Judy, what I found interesting is all the old gaffers, lol, my age, singing and dancing, having a ball..
Ohhh sounds as though you got a lot of sewing tips from Barb, must get her to show me some..really would like to work from home for a few days as I could really use the time to finish last 5 blocks..now about your water problem...DRAINAGE..would it not be easier Judy to do some drainage work so that this does not continue year after year..I'd be so afraid about the dampness creating mold..not good and the cost, for all you have to keep throwing away it would be cheaper to repair in the long run. Had some of those torrential rains coming home last night..wow, between not being able to see due to heavy rains and the fog it made for an interesting ride home.
pressing 'send' just incase..lol
Sounds like you had a tremendous weekend Betty. I love Elvis' gospel work and love songs. Not too keen on the rock numbers. You sond happy that you went even though tired today.....The pictures are great and that butterfly was gorgeous...
Oh Betty, i wish it were that simple, drainage...However it only happens when we get Monsoons. It rained starting Thursday night, then again Friday night, really down pour, the entire night. Everyone had water issues. LOL, the guy a couple houses over had a raft in his yard!!
Well Steve get's it mopped up uses bleach and We have fans going non stop...It's pretty dry now, if anything it's "blessing" so the basement gets clean, hahaha.
Here is a pic of down the block...Water was all the way to the house next door and as you know We are in the middle of the block!
Oh Judy, yes, that is a bit more than just rain..yikes..didn't know you get monsoons??? OMG what effort it must take to clean that up..so discouraging for you...do you have de-humidifier?? that would help better than a fan wouldn't it? I'd be in a corner crying.
Yes, Barb, thrilled I went, if not for all the Elvis's then for the chilean miner doing his thing.
Katie, bet Fely was thrilled to see the growth..nice that you have a secondary family..sometimes families we pick are far more caring than our own..I often find that with my friends and DG friends!
Sorry to hear you are not up to par, could be the missing your missing Tony..I'm with Mary, the chicken you bought for the dogs, do you cook and add broth to their dry food or do they chew on bones..I always worry as they say the bones could splinter within and cause major internal damage. Glad Dora didn't create a problem. Was thrilled last night myself to see rain..
Different being in the mall, everything is so bright, my view is all inside the mall and looks sooo bright, windows in Suzanne and Paul's office have a covering half way up and I'm not near to see if it's sunshine or rain so not quite sure what it is doing out there.
Judy, this is Jeff and Julie's kayak 2011 trip blog..
I enjoy reading their daily posts...

Betty LOL on the Elvises. I was on a garden tour with a guy just looking at him you knew that was what he did for a living. He told us at lunch that is all he does. Supports himself and his family doing Elvis impersonations.
Ric was loading the boat getting ready for a fishing trip and lost his balance. He does that sometimes since the ear virus he had last year. It is worst when he gets tired, probably overdoing it as usual. He's taking it easy today.
We poured a concrete slab for the GH and wanted to stain it. You must wait 30 days for it to cure before staining. Our 30 days was up just a few days ago. We did the acid wash and now it is just a matter of applying the stain.
Job is good, I am the only one of the three left. One had an injury and quit and the other got a Full time permanent job elsewhere. So I am staying as long as I can. Nice people and I like the work but it is hard working during gardening season. Ric is doing almost all the watering here takes about 2 hours and the Veggie Garden. I got an award last week for customer service. Dive trip is all paid for and some of the extra is going into more plants for the garden. LOL
Here is a pic of the Veggie Garden with the GH slab in place.
Katie, will have to go in search of Bethany Reynolds (?) books, always look for easier quilting projects.
Crissy, were most from Daves Garden that you met up with??? who would they be, would I know any of them? Lucky you have members so close to you..I would say that Dianne and Debbie are the closest to me and that is several hours away..try to meet up with Debbie as much as I can..what a sweetheart she is..
Lunch time, must run
back in a bit
Holly it's absolutely beautiful..what was the purpose ofther than eyecatching is the brick in the center..is that where you will be standing? got to come and see your gardens...
You must certainly be doing a top notch job for them to acknowlege your efforts..wonderful..could it be worth let's say 'take home some plants'?? lol
I would imagine Ric did not get to go on his trip..so do you think you liked working enough to go back next year? Guess you'd have a job waiting come spring. When is your scuba trip?
Bet your are excited.
lunch is waiting..lol
Betty how fun!!! I'll get the link for you here in a minute.
Holly so glad to see you post, your poor DH and his tumble, cracked ribs hurt like the dickens and take forever to heal!
Judy that sucks about the basement, glad you got that cleaning stuff, way cool!!
Well I forgot what I was going to say! Now there's a surprise!
Ok, here's the link to the pictures.
https://picasaweb.google.com/i.am.duckmother/DGLuncheonAtCharlotteSJuly2011
Crissy, love the photo's..see the names, none are familiar to me, can you tell us what their DG names are??? oh, those are my kind of gardens..beautiful!
Mary, hope you are feeling better today, maybe your 100 day cough is up! Think drinking age here is 19, was 21 than changed and guess what..no increase in problems concerning early age drinking, infact probably less problems . Yes, here parents are responsible for their children should they do something .. i.e. financial lost etc. sooo glad I don't have young teens.
Trying to catch up on yesterdays posts! Crossed the street to Walmart and got BigMac lunch and back at my desk watching a movie, oh life is hard here at work..Barb, may Norm's new job be just as easy..
The last 3 weeks I've been in Walmart I've seen a framed picture (trio inset in 1 frame) and every time I pass it I think of my home on the lake, long dock, looking from inside down to the water..decided that I must have it so home it will come, now if it can only fit on a wall somewhere, perhaps your bedroom Barb..lol
I can hear it in your typing as well, how excited you are for Norm..I'm ever so thankful that your trip to Canada is still on..gee whiz, you keep adding little trinkets for me I'll have to put up a Christmas tree because I'll think it's Christmas
Now did I miss the thread where you told me what Norm will be doing?? is it something I might need a fixin' when you come lol
LindaKay, what are those grandchildren doing today..swimming, heat wave all but gone?
Holly, Oh my I can sit watch your garden all day!!
Beautiful Gazeebo and GH pad, it's going to real to see when you are finished.
yikers, so sorry Ric fell, hope he heals soon.
B E T T Y !!! Thank you, TY for posting Jeff and Julie's blog...I just love that they are both posting, sounds like they are having a real great time.
Makes me miss camping, lol just a little. Can't wait to see their pictures! And OMG, that guy commenting is hysterical.
Forgot to tell you about my cleaning stuff, it's called eco orange, it's the Bomb!! I've been a cleaning fool...but as stated yesterday took the day off to sew and catch up on watching tv...This morning, first thing I did was marvel at my disgustingly clean bathroom, hahaha, so laughing at myself...Jacob was too funny, said it's way to bright. So now that everything is waiting by the basement stairs will get some exercise running up and down getting things put back, coolers, laundry buckets, etc..
Then I can vacuum great room. lol, got side tracked and decided to wash kitchen floor. ROFLOL, told Liz I wanted her to see my house nice and clean for a change instead of lived in clutter look and Geesh, Now that I'm cleaning, Thunder must think were a bunch of slobs...Shaking my head, We ARE a bunch of sloppy people...
Sigh, sure hope it stays this way until Liz gets here...I should make a tape recording, I just cleaned, lets keep it this way for a day or two...lolol.
Well...Julia jumped in on the cleaning spree, Cleaned her room at 11:30 p.m.
Well break is over, time to finish up kitchen chores..
Be back in a bit.
Oh Judy, sounds like a product we all should have..hmm wonder if we have it in Canada..I'll go key in the name and see..would be an excellent product to have..my old tub enclosure is turning a bit on the yellow side re iron in water, not bad by any means but if it took it off it would save me having to replace!
Glad your are enjoying Julie and Jeff's post about their trip..yes, from what he told me Saturday he certainly is getting more rest than he thought, which he badly needs...this guy who posts a comment, not sure, think he might work with Jeff..I don't understand half of what he is talking about, will have to get Jeff to give me the lowdown..lol
Been to your house Judy, me thinks you are exagerating about your home being dirty..with all the teens in and out, hours that Steve works and all that you do I think you keep it together!!!
Dianne/Warren, Shirley and Bev, want you to know my thoughts and prayers are with you..been thinking of all of you throught the day
Judy, I thought your house was just like mine !!! clean enough to be healthy...dirty enough to "live in"
don't like to go somewhere...where you are afraid to sit down, afraid you might have a spec of dirt on your feet!!!
nope I thought your house was perfect!!! lived in...just like mine!!! pictures, etc on the walls...things on the table...lived in....
Once upon a time I had my younger sister with me as an unwanted guest who had long outstayed any small reluctant welcome she had had. I asked her to leave. I was exhausted from working a very difficult job. She demanded an explanation and refused to elave without one. It was a nightmare. Finally I said I did not feel she was being very supportive of me. (A serious understatement as she was drunk most of the time.) She began screaming at me that she was a very supportive person and it was horrible for me to say such a thing. Screaming. Then she left in a huff.
The lst time I saw her she was perjuring herself about me with a crooked judge and his crooked friends beaming at her. Several years later she committed suicide.
Today I had a deja vu of that experience. A person who, thank God, does not post here, was giving me unsolicited advice on another thread. I asked her to stop. She threw a fit worthy of my younger sister. It included that I was too sick to be here and that if I didn't appreciate her "helpful" remarks I obviously needed a phychiatrist. Then she went to the thread involved and posted "poor me I'm not appreciated" remarks which Admin removed. All this was about three years ago. She has shown up on other threads where I was posting and I left - until the last one. Even seeing her name makes me sick to my stomach but I've attempted to hang in as I really like the thread. She made the mistake of addressing a friendly remark to me and I corked. Wrote her a Dmail (I'll spare you the details.) Got back a response just as nasty as the first one, again telling me what a wonderful person shw is and how sick I am not to appreciate her. She did not even remember our previous correspondence which suggests to me that she mostly lives in a state of rage. She order me not to contact her again. I'm so crushed.
Pardon the rant. Seems to be our time for overdue tell-offs. I tried to make it a little amusing. I ceratinly feel better.
fume still coming out my ears, katie
Katie, glad you felt you could come here and blow some of that steam, sure helps to just let it all out some times...........thats what "friend" are for we are here to share the good, the bad, the ugly, and the pretty......hope you feel much better now.....
Katie that's horrible of them to do that, misery loves company and she's going to make whoever she comes across as miserable as she is, how sad people live that way. I think life's too short to bother with the negative and I rant and fume then try to move on as best I can, it is very difficult sometimes! Girl rant away, we're here to listen! Lord knows we all rant and it's good to tell someone or someones who actually do care and will listen and give some sort of advice.
Thank you. I do feel better but I'm still kind of twitchy. Kind of like a cat after it's killed a snake.
katie
LOL Twitchy, that's a good word for that odd feeling!
Oh Goodness Katie, So sorry this happened to you. I know that twitchy feeling too, Well you can vent away and We will wrap our arms around you...
Awe, Thunder and Betty, you made me feel so good...just smiling away.
Wow, my DH is home already!! He decided to wash his van.
Crissy, I enjoyed your pictures of the gathering, looks like you all had a great time and what lovely gardens Charlette has...
Just love that she has a Jumanji...Pot person!!
Jeff just posted
julie and I just witnessed attempted suicide, guy drove off bridge we had just gone over, wouldn't get out as car sinking, people jumped in and heroic young guy from lock busted window with 2x4 and literally dragged out as last swoosh of water went in, very intense and very close call
Crissy, Loved the pictures what a great time you must have had. Beautiful gardens, seems to me I have seen a few pics from those gardens posted. That pot lady looks familiar.
Judy, Haven't been doing much house work lately and my GS told me the other day that I had Dust Bunnies. So I had to get the vac out. Must be pretty bad when your 8yr old GS notices. LOL
Katie, So sorry you had an upsetting experience. Just remember that there are people here that do not pay attention to everything that is written or necessarily agree with someone else's opinion. You don't have to read or answer D-mails or just skip the posts written by her. Keep the positive and ignore the negative.
Betty the concrete slab is insulated there is a layer of crushed stone, then under the concrete a layer of thick foam board and then the concrete. It will be stained a dark green to help absorb heat and the insulation will help hold it. The brick center will allow drainage and if ever we need access to the water hydrant we can easily remove the bricks to dig it up. It looks nice, too.
Mary, That is a beautiful Cajun Hibiscus. I finally found a couple for my gardens. This one is my favorite.
Betty, that would be upsetting. Glad the person was saved and hope he will be, too.
I also had a very positive experience today. I stayed calm and non-confromtaional with an eBay seller and got some Laurel Burch fabric for my girls and a new friend on eBay. I did not let the other situation spill over and mess things up.
Thank you all for listening. It's a three-year-old lump that's finally passing.
hugs, katie
Katie those lumps can last years, my aunt sued me and my mom when my grandfather passed away, my mom's dad, not hers, and I'm still bent over it, that was in 1997 - 2000.
That is a beautiful hibiscus!!!
Betty it's the same ladies I meet with every time, you said last time that you didn't know them. Wish you did!! OMG!! What a horrific experience for those two!!!! YIKES!!
Holly you may have seen it, she has us over about once every 3 months or so. I love going to her house!
oh my Betty!! I just can not imagine experiencing such a thing!!!
Hi Judy big arm wraps to you and Steve, and all the kiddo's
and hugs to everyone else... I am off to cut more fabric.....
forgot to add that "pot person" is fantastic!!! even hubby likes it...hmmmm maybe I can get him to make me one??!!!

Holly, you've done a lot of research with regards to the greenhouse foundation. I wouldn't have thought the green would have attracted the sun..that's my 'learn of the day'.
Lol at the dust bunnies, tell grandson you wanted pets for grandpa while you work and they are easy to feed!
Cajun hibiscus, would imagine they only grow in the more southern states?? Just so nice to see you post again Holly!
Katie, Laurel birch fabric, going to research it..always nice meeting new friends..now I just finished researching Mulege..looked at some photo's..omg you certainly live in God's country...so very beautiful
How long have you lived in Mexico?
Thunder, other than Laura and Barb I've never seen anyone work so hard on her quilts..did you get your son's mailed out?
Like your comments about when houses are so clean you feel uncomfortable. That's how I feel at my brothers...lordy you walk upstairs and he or she is there with their hand working the rug pile so you don't see the foot marks..think I'm joking, NOT!!
Judy is much too hard on herself...Judy, you can put your new cleaning solution away, better still divide into small bottles and send us some so we get your cleaning bug
Thunder, I can't wait to read their blog to get more information on today's trauma..am sure they both were upset.
This message was edited Jul 25, 2011 6:58 PM
OMG Betty! What a thing to witness. It is so sad too, when one doesn't think there is any other way....
I just talked with Norm. His comment about his first day's work on the new job was - "I can't believe they are paying like this for this job"!!!! I guess there are a bit of electronics involved and he has all kinds of experience with it. The man training Norm told Norm that he had more knowledge about the systems than he, the trainer, did!!!! Now I'm just hoping Norm won't get too bored!!!!!
He will be in Maine most of the week so I'm batcheloring (is that a word? it is now!) here with the cat. It rained today so at least I don't need to water his tomato plant!!!! It has all kinds of tomatoes on it - they are all green though.
I still have two table runners to get done before my high school reunion. Working on that and on my BOM tomorrow. I'll have Sean and I'll see what mischief we can get into...
Judy, I couldn't get over all the water!!!! And that's just from rain???? I need you to send me the name of your cleaner. That works great....
Crissy - looks like your outing was a lot of fun. Beautiful gardens.
Holly, how nice to see you again. The GH is going to be really nice. I like the drain idea....When do you go diving?
Katie, it's nice to meet you. And don't worry - we all have big shoulders and don't mind the venting. We all do it now and again...
I must look up your area in Mexico.
Hope this finds you doing okay Bev. And Dianne and Warren, and Shirley. You are all in my prayers. Waving Hi ~~~ to all.
Kyle dropped in for his nightly visit, wanted me to see his chopper bike that finally got finished..not fond of the orange, but I'm not 15 and it isn't my bike. Lol
He just left, think he's tired as well..construction is not easy and in this heater's?? Let's just say I'm impressed with him...said his boss gave him a t-shirt with company logo, said only thing wrong is it's an extra large, told him that's wonderful, he looked at me odd so I said ' means you'll be there for more years, bought it so you would grow into it!'. He just laughed
Love to stay up to gab with the night shift but I'm tired/tired and going to bed..let's hope I can sleep, you know how you get when you overdo
Ohhh Barb, we cross posted
Absolutely thrilled that Norm is so excited about his job, bet tonight you'll sleep like a babe knowing your sweetie is on such a high.
Sounds as though the gentleman training Norm has the ability of putting new employees at ease! makes the learning transition not new job more enjoyable
Thank goodness I'm not in your neck of the woods, tried to purchase green tomatoes just starting to turn, all the ones at veggie stand tonight were already red..so didn't buy any and here you've got all kinds. You know when you pack the vehicle and trying to get all those openings between luggage filled, think 'tomatoes'
Oh what a thing to witness, hopefully the person gets some help and finds new reasons to live. Maybe the fact that other people went to such great lengths to save him will be some support.
Betty, Any dark color will do, it absorbs the heat rather than reflects it. Of course with the benches I don't know how much it will help and then there is the other idea that reflected light is good for the plants as well. But we think this will look nice, seal the concrete and hopefully give us some solar gain as well.
Barb it has been nice being back. Not sure when I will get back to talk to you all but I will stop in again when I can.
How about a tropical water lily
Restless tonight, kept checking jeff and Julie's blog just to know they are ok..no posts..telephone just rang, Jeff wanting to chat..guess he and Julie are all worked up..said by the time they got down the embankment, Julie getting ready to jump in and jeff tring to find something to break windows the young man found a 2x4..apparently the man who drove over the embankment/bridge under repair had locked the car doors..jeff said he wanted nothing to do with surviving, he was submerged and fought being saved...the young man that got to him sure took a chance..from Jeff's excited chatter know it made an impact on them both...now mom is wide awake..
Maybe a game of computer scrabble will put me to sleep!
Holly, love the water lily..try and get back before your scuba diving trip if you can!!
