72°, wind from the south at 9 mph, H 93%, cloudy/ mist
Going up to 82° today, thunderstorm expected this afternoon followed by heavy thunderstorms tonight. Tonight's low 71°.
Weather in your garden # 102
71, 95% H, breeze at 5 MPH, cloudy - no rain yet but it's due.
Grey, overcast, drizzle, 81 degrees.
Very cloudy & drizzling a bit....just came back from the farm...babysitting....my son started a fairy house for the kids, & I was roped in to make a ladder!
Overcast and 78, with a gross 86% H. Calling for t-storms later and we are supposed go to the Boulders game. Bummer.
81 and more humid today. front is coming through, like Allison, my head is telling me so.
Has tried to rain all day, but nada so far....hope the T-storms are not severe.....
73° a very fine mist was trying to happen. However we got the rest of the irises dug for our sale tomorrow. My marking pen point was a bit larger than I like. Writing on iris foliage can be tricky--ok for tall bearded but we have the smaller iris plants with narrow foliage.
uh oh.. looks like Victor is getting whacked with a storm
Yes - we got hit by the first wave and have a tornado warning. Lull now. More heavy stuff to come.
we had a 10 min downpour.. and lots of rumbling now
t-storm went thru here, had a 3 min power outage, .81"
Only had 0.23". Lots of thunder and lightning.
77°, H 90%
Very humid outside, had some light rain move through about 7pm which only lasted about ½ hour although with all this humidity everything is still damp and wet outside. - perfect 'bug weather' tonight.
Nice one!
Thanks.
Very humid outside. We got more rain. Good for the plants, better for the weeds. I wonder when I'll get to work outside again in my own garden.
Nice picture Victor.
Nice lightning photo, Victor.
I feel the same way, Candy.
72 and it looks like we had some rain overnight
Only had a quick shower last night....right now it's sunny, breezy, & wonderful!
79°, wind from the Northwest at 8 mph, H 66%, clear skies
Heading up to 90° today, winds are supposed to increase to 19 mph by afternoon.
Dropping down to 68° tonight under clear skies.
Off to visit family on the north shore of LI later. Supposed to be 90+, but breezy and not so humid. They have a great pool too!
81 now, with 63% H and a nice breeze.
My son & his family are close to the North Shore today, visiting with my stepdaughter, Lesley.....
88 in the shade. Hotter in the sun. Thank goodness for the breeze, but I'm inside for the afternoon. Feel like taking a nap.
Hope the pool there isn't green Victor
:)
Hello, everyone. I let my subscription to Dave's Garden expire in June, but re-joined today. I missed this site.
It's been hot in Western New York as it has been everywhere. We have never reached 100 degrees, but the heat index has gone over 100 several times over the past few weeks. Finally got some rain this past Wed & Thur, but still warm in the upper 80's.
Right now it is 82 degrees in WNY. More rain coming tomorrow. That is good as we really were getting desperate.
Blessings,
-Dave

Welcome back, DavEdsel.
We've had quite a warm summer way out here on Long Island and I try to limit my outdoor work to the shady spots and I move as the shade changes.
Welcome back Dave!
It's a cool 57 now heading to a high of 83 today and sunny.
Good morning.
Right now it is 69 degrees and sunny in WNY. We had a mild thunderstorm come through about 6 am and last an hour or so. A nice soaker. Maybe the blue-flowered hydrangea my wife planted in the front yard a few weeks ago will survive.
Have a blessed and super Sunday, friends.
Blessings,
-Dave
Welcome back, Dave. We are in Conn. for my son's birthday weekend. I haven't been out yet, but it looks like a great morning. Enjoy, everyone!!
Nice shot, Victor!
Great morning for weeding in the shade--79 degrees F now, sunny and a light breeze. Dug some asian burning bushes up and spread 6 bushels of pine bark mulch around the new shrubs, too. Parts of the back yard are looking like we care. Hard work, but I too think it sure beats housework. Can't wait for the next burst of energy and strength (plus new shade) to tackle more. I am learning how to wield a sharp long handled cultivator in order to spare back and knees, and I think it works tricepts too. There's no sparing the shoulders, though.
Congratulations! I just wish I knew the importance of mulch many years ago. I used our own compost but weed seeds still took hold so now it's been the pine needle mulch for me for the last five or six years.
Almost anything but shoveling snow beats housework! Rainy days and winter are okay for housework, painting, etc.
What do you use to kneel on when you do have to kneel to work?
Keep rewarding yourself for a job well done and hope it becomes addictive.
Welcome back Dave. 81° here but a cool draft though the upstairs where I have west & east windows open. will keep an eye on that.
pirl I do your weeding in the shade bit. My kneeler is often advertised--a handle on each side. It folds up which DH folds for me & carries it out to the garden. I can move it around from there. I can't get up without it. Just push down on the top of the handles & I rise up. Have used it for years.
Kneelers are too tough on my knees, too. I seldom kneel even though I have all sorts of pads and kneelers that I've tried. Instead I either just plain sit in the dirt, or else I use a low stool for sitting. I have two likely tears in one knee and other knee problems too, and too busy for anything but water PT, which helps. The only other thing I recommend is gardening on a hill--then leaning down isn't quite so bad! The weed cultivator with its very sharp knife edge and long handle also helps to reduce getting down on the ground
Also, happy birthday to you, pirl!
Thank you, Rosemary.
I do sit on the ground often enough but I'm not fond of ants crawling on me and this year the ants have been plentiful.
For so long I thought I was the oddball with not getting along with kneeling pads - thanks for the reinforcement on that issue. They're either too hard, too soft, much too hot, too small or too limiting - like the ones with indentations for the knees.
Long Island is so flat that an ant hill is cause for wonder so gardening on a hillside is just in my dreams.
We do have a tool for removing weeds from cracks, crevices, between bricks, etc. and that's great for slicing under the weeds to get them out. It does not have a long handle and with my tremors I'd probably remove a few toes, so just as well I don't have one like that.
Welcome back, Dave! Was wondering if you were away for the summer. Great to see you back.
Sunny and 86, with 47% H.
Had a great time yesterday. Hot, but not humid and with a nice breeze all day.
87°, wind from the Northwest at 6mph, H 37%, sunny
- dropping down to 67° tonight, under mostly clear skies.
Went to 89 today....small breezes kept it bearable....the Sunday magazine section in our paper had a little quiz on happiness.....if you have a short amount of time, gardening will give you the most satisfaction...I agree!
