Faye, sorry to hear about your Sister and that not so good reports. Hope that medicare will pay for the treatments. Sending lots of love and prayers!
Now about those girls dropping their clothes all over the place and hanging out with the bad crowd, your just going to have to put your foot down, and scold them good!

LOL, HA HAHAHAAAAAAAA thank you LK, I needed that. Buttttttttt don't you think that's what I've been doing? Anyway, ain't got it right yet, cuz they ain't listening!

Some of those young girls can be stubborn, so just tell them bad company is not allowed. Have you tried bayer bug spray. I know some don't like to use chemicals, but sometimes that is all that works.

Oh Debra, glad you got to go see your sister. I am sure you are happy and sad all at the same time.

I am fighting spider mites like crazy. Sad to say fruity but some of those brown blotches and deformities might be spider mites, look closely. The planter I take care of in the city that ee I noticed Sunday night has spider mites. What a pain! I am not wild about chemicals but I know alot of them you cant use if the temps are above such and such and currently our temps are high. Think I am going to use soap and water at night and see if I can get things under control...ugh!

I guess I am lucky to be on a well, and it is a huge well, the casing is probably 4 1/2 feet wide, if it didn't have a HUGE concrete cover, (has to be lifted by a tractor) Anyone or anything could get in it. When the guy came to drill it, he had his equipment still sit for a commerical and didn't want to change it. So he charged us the same and put in a HUGE one.

It helped getting most things moved over to the east, course I am still sure I couldn't go a day without watering.

Linda I have used dish soap & water mix,did this a couple times a week, they loved that, multiplied like crazy, didn't even give them a buzz. Then I used Bayer 3N1, this made them happy too, they just told their neighbors and everyone joined in, I mean, I must have the neighbors mites. No one person should have as many as I'm fighting. Then I mixed Ammonia & water. That did nothing that I could see this morning, so, this morning out of desperation, I dusted them with Sevin-5 dust. I'm afraid I'll bite the dust before the mites do.

I use the cheapest window cleaner I can find that has amonia in it, and spray them with that. Any drip/runoff (in moderation) is good for the plant so you don't have to worry about that. It has to be the kind with amonia, or it won't do the trick.

Add this to the list of things to try...rofl. There has got to be one that works. This is from the magazine fine gardening:
Tricks for removing aphids, mites, and other small insects
Scientists at Texas A&M University estimate that up to 90 percent of problems with aphids, mites, and spittlebug nymphs can be cured by dislodging them with a strong blast of water. You can also use adhesive tape to remove aphids and other small insects from plant leaves. Simply wrap a long piece of tape around your fingers (sticky side out), and blot off the bugs.

For aphids in particular, set a yellow dish filled with soapy water near the plant. Aphids are drawn to the color yellow. For spider mites that persist despite a daily spray of plain water, use a buttermilk spray developed by scientists at Purdue University. Combine 1/4 cup of buttermilk and 2 cups of wheat flour in 2-1/2 gallons of water. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle, shake the ingredients thoroughly, and spray it on your plants.

Gosh thanks happ. Like I said, I'll be the one biting the dust. But thanks for trying.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

oh dear, Faye, you are having such a time with your "girls".... All my "boys" that are not under the pear tree are just being plain stubborn and sitting there... I just gave them all a supper of buffalo chip tea and nitrogen crystals, sprayed them again with the mix and now they are all going to sleep. My problem ( besides 108 temps two days in a row) are the stoopid worms. Such great Joy I get when I find them and squish them. been catching small grass hoppers too. watched the birds actually eating bugs off the plants on the patio, Collge Girl freaked out when she looked out and saw all the birds all over the plants, so she threw out a handful ( maybe a bucket) of critter food in the middle of the patio walk, which brought flies. ugh. I DID put fly paper wraps around Kaitlyn and Maya and Flamenco, since they are trying so hard to stay healthy.. finding lots of nasty looking bugs on them collars, no worms yet.

So sorry about your sister, Faye, I talked mine into biting the $$$ bullet and adding the extra she has to pay out of pocket to her bankruptcy, they lawyers have helped out with that. Thank Goodness, since she had to pay everyone her deductible up front. I cooked her a bunch of real food tis weekend, ( her daughter keeps her on a fast food diet)
I am bringing in stuff this weekend, bug bombed the first room downstairs in preparation, going to sweep, clean, dust and disinfect next, then check the lights. It was alot easier getting blooms in that room this past winter, than it is now.

I hate squishing catapillars, 'cause I don't know which ones are good ones and which ones are bad ones. Our b'flies are so sparse this year, I hate to kill anything good. I did finally see a black swallowtail on my zinnia's last night. That was a welcome sight!

OK.... off to work. Have a great day everyone.
