She's about to...61... Summer is upon us!

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

LK we have very similar issues here. We can't even get HD because of the trees. We have all these new HD TV's cause that's all your can buy and we can't see HD on any of them. On the other hand we have had pretty good service from Directv over the years. Unless you count the times that the technician can't speak English. :)) Lets see there was the Nigerian guy. Even the operator on the phone couldn't understand him when he called in. Spanish is always a problem. Had a guy out here last week and he was a regular GI. Nice looking Irish boy with good manners and great service. ))

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Gee you guys.. joe got a hd tv for xmas, and doesn't even want hdtv for it.. sorry for all your problems. ugh.
scuse me, can the devil take his /ac/dc temps back to his homeplace please?

TV not a problem here unless cable goes out. Well have Spider Mites again on my Angels. I have sprayed them 2 times this week with Bayer 3N1 and that stuff is supposed to kill on contact.
Susan, oh Susan, you know the seat in this chair is not going to last with me doing this happy dance in it! Does anyone have a plant called "Alacacia Poly" ? I just got one and I think the leaves look like wax, so pretty, I love it. Well, well, here I go again, loving another plant.
Hugs

I'm with you all on white being a non-color! LOL There are only a few flowers I like that are white. I will buy every other color under the sun. I like moonflowers, balloon flowers ........ um ..... can't really think of others off hand. lol I may put one white in the midst of a bunch of colors, but don't seek out white flowers.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Evening everyone! Well I like Grey, Silver and White foliage or blooms but am like you, Patti. They just sorta happen and enjoy seeing a punch of neutrals next to hot colored flowers.

Wow the mail was quick, Faye. I wanted to surprise you and hope your goodies looked alright. Do you leave your Dahlias in the ground over Winter?

Wouldn't you know it. I failed to dig up Wynne's "New Pastel" last Fall. He came back and seems to be happily blooming in his new location. Ya'll remember my fiasco last year planting Dahlias between rows of Cannas? Poor things never had a chance to see much Sun and Kelvin White (lol) was the only one that bloomed. The ones I overwintered in the garage didn't make it, but two of the Humpty Dumpties you sent me LK earlier this year have bloomed. Out of the 10 or so someone offered for postage earlier this year, 7 are up, so that's pretty good odds in my book.

Pretty dahlias!

Debra, did they remove that tree in the back corner? How did it go?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

not yet, the guys that did the work didn't want to work in 111 temps that day, I am hoping they wait until fall, dh hopes they get it quick cuz it would de-home the squirrels. I love my accolasia polys, I have three kinds.
this one is called "loco"

Debra, those poly's are really cool looking. Is it are they tropicals?

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Crit those are a type of elephant ear.

I have polly also, but beware they are pretty mite resistant but will get mites, not as easy as other ee's but will get them if exposed long enough.

Debra, love that corner it is really pretty with all those blooms.

Always like the dahlias, sure wish you didn't have to dig them up tho.....someone told me to plant the dahlias no matter how bad they look because they will usually take off.....

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I just got back from wal mart, and they were putting these out on the shelf. Can anyone tell me what they are? Tag says,
Frittonia fortissimo/argyroneura. It is even blooming!!!

I sure am enjoying seeing all the green things.. just about everything here is DEAD... no rain .. it is killing everything. I am just about to give up. All my brugs gave up weeks ago. Actually I have two teeny tiny ones still struggling.. I mean teeny.. less than 4 inches tall.. they just will not grow... with humidy so low no matter how much I water it just sucks the life out of them. I have two potato vines struggling.. they usually are miles long and all over everything by now.. they are barely over the edge of their pots!

I drive around town and feel even worse to see all the dead yards.. completely dead all grass and shrubs. All I can think of is the fire hazzards around the homes. I am still watering my yard .. don't want to lose everything completely. I have just about stopped looking at the misery....can't open my back door the past few days since the last of the water in the park finished drying up.. all turtles and fish just died and the smell it awful even though it is over a mile away... The city says they let it dry up to do some errosion work.. no work seen being done. It is the only park in the area. I have no idea what all the ducks are going to do.

OK .. off my soap box... just getting really, really desperate for some rain!

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

I looked at my plant tag, it is the same family but different plant. Looks very similar

So sad Tammie. It's the same story all over the place. Either no rain, or way too much rain. Terrible year!

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

How awful, Tammie. We're not in such dire straights as you are, but haven't had much measurable rain since May. Thunderstorms cropping up every few days only seem to raise the humidity.

We had enjoyable temps today in the low 80's with hardly any humidity and got a lot done. My early-blooming NOID Hostas got a haircut -- they always look ragged this time of year but will put on another flush in late Summer / early Fall. Speedwells, Columbines, Ajuga and several Agastaches that were going to seed got whacked along with the Russian Sage. Can you tell my compost pile has a sweet savory smell? And sadly several Coneflowers that were suffering from a virus hit the trash.

Frittonia from what I've learned since purchasing mine, LK, is a houseplant that thrives in low light. Mine came from Lowe's too, and is called "Red Vein". Where yours has white veins, mine has pink ones. Not sure what's up with the word red in it's name though. I keep mine on my desk and pretty much ignore watering it til it starts to wilt, and afterward it always bounces back.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

that frittonia is a tropical and low light and not wet but damp soil good drainage. that is what i know abot that pretty thing. i overwatered mine.

Poor Tammie! good thing you are here with us, we can replenish your garden this fall, and we can all start over this spring. ( I have felt like giving up many many times this year already)

havn't had a summer like this since 1980.

no mites this year, but fighting grasshoppers and worms on my angels, and as soon as they get okra buds, the drop from the heat. I am going to bring it all back inside after I am finished helping my sister in August.

Last night at midnight it was still 91! Here it is 7:30am, and it is already 85!!! Humidity is 69%!!! No grass to be found anywhere, unless someone has an outstanding water bill, and that's few and far between!

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Oh how awful, LK. We slept with the windows open last night and will again tonight. Really unusual to be able to do that this time of year but got two days reprieve from the heat but looks like it'll be back over the week-end. I didn't bother turning the A/C back on this morning since we were gone for the better part of the day.

Ya'll stay cool if you can!

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

I finally figured it out last night Fruitcake that I could turn off the A/C. Nothing like being on the ball. Slept with the windows open and believe me did I sleep. First good nights sleep in a really long time.

Red Volunteer. I am loving this. It is so big and bright I can see them from my kitchen window even though they are halfway down the front yard.

Beautiful Neener.

I understand LK .... so sorry for you. 104-106 progressivly for the next 7 days. Same song, second (or is it 3rd?) verse. My water bill was $190 last month. Between watering animals, keeping pool full and watering my plants ....... sheesh!!!!! But I just can't bear to let my plants die! And have to be sure horses have water and the pool is full!!!!!! Maybe I will quit taking showers and just use the pool. ^_^

I have some that have Ken Harris on the tag. Is that the name of the plant or a person? Need to go see which ones the name faded out on. I had made new tags for some until I ran out. Have more now.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

my tags say k_harris from Faye so it Might be A Ken Harris guess i will go look it up .

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad your back with us Susie!

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Susan love that picture. Crit and Susie, the Kay(not Ken) Harris (person I got the cutting from) Brugs are either white or pink and the owner of original plant had no idea of real name. All she knew was "Angel Trumpet' But it is one of my favorites because it's first to bloom and it does come back if planted in ground.
Stay cool everyone, if you can.
Love & Hugs

Cool picture Faye. I had a HnC that did that, then somehow I killed it. Yup, leave it to me to kill a cactus!

Thanks for the info on the brugs. My mistake on the name, I think I talked to a Ken Harris on here and thought maybe the K. Harris was him, but it wasn't. At least that clears up the question.

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Crit you may not have killed your Hen After they bloom, (just learned in the other place that the blooming is called "Bolting") they do die, but mine left enough chicks to keep the plant going.

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Where is everyone? Not much happening on any thread that I've checked.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)
