She's about to...61... Summer is upon us!

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Susie, love your Hen & Chick pic. with the cup. Plant another Hen in the cup and watch the Chicks spill over. Thanks for sharing pictures of your pretty gardens and especially of the Datura. Don't know what happened to mine this year, so far only have a white one blooming. Do hope a yellow will show up soon.

2007 picture. Just redone all my strawberry jars yesterday.

Susie the baby is so cute. I am guessing you are doing ok? Love the gardens and all the daylilies...we are suppose to have feel like temps of 112. I will be making plant tags when we get there...rofl.

I just posted this on another site but gotta show it to you all. AuntB gave me this and it is one of my fav's. I have never seen it bloom or smelled it...rofl. It is a voodoo lily but the leaf is amazing! This year I have 3 leaves, first time. Love the blotches on the stalk. Looks like skin or snake or something...really strange.

Ohhhh, the baby is so tiny and cute, cute, cute!!!!!!

Beautiful gardens there dj! My yellow shrimp plant has lots of blooms on it, but the red one doesn't have any yet. I don't know why. I was always told the yellow upright one was a lolipop plant and the red one where the blooms arch was the shrimp plant. Guess people have different names for the same plants. :-)

Faye, that hen & check is gorgeous!!!! I replanted my strawberry pot after all the others died. I think I just ignored it toooooooo long, and killed it. I have trouble with the ones I put in the top. I always kill those while the ones on the sides do fine. Maybe I need to add more dirt and not put so much water in it.

Debra, that purple is gorgeous. I have some that I ws'd, that are growing very slowly but only about 8" tall. One of the purple keeps putting out these tiny little flowers, but I always miss them. ha ha I have triple purple and double yellow. A lot of the stuff I ws'd is just setting there and not growing. Out of 4 cone flowers, 3 of them died off and the 4th is struggling, but it is only about 1" tall. Such a wierd year!!!! I am giving them too much water, not enough water, too much sun, not enough sun, etc, etc, etc. Just can't figure it out!!!

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Beautiful pics, Gals. Love seeing your critters and your gardens waking up, Susie, and know how much you do too. My gardens look like they're on the downside.

Wasn't it you, happ, talking earlier about blooms clashing colors? How's this for an example with Daylily "Pumpkin Kid" (from you, Susie) that bloomed last month in the middle of Phlox "Laura"? Am I gonna move either one of them.....probably not. Seeing surprises like this makes my day. Now if I was striving for a show garden, which ain't gonna happen, it would be an entirely different story.

That is so pretty!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I think that is pretty fruity. I like those colors together.

I have an answer to the daylilies with spots. It was SOOOOOOO hot here, I was sprinkling myself with water and was sitting under a tree just looking at the daylilies....well this one had red drops! It is a two tone daylily the outer petals that are not so red were not doing this but the redder inside petals all did this. The red ran off with the drips and left blotches...how does that happen? It is like someone painted them with water colors and when they got wet the color ran off. So I am guessing just a little dew would do this..sorry no pun intended...rofl

The next pic I tried to take a picture right as the paper towel sucked up the water....sorry it didn't work so well, but you can see the paper towel is red. On my hand the drops were really red.

Susie, if you want to mark on a photo, just open it in your paint program, You can type on it, or draw.

I need prayers for my Brother and family please? He has always been a very hot headed person, and has always abused his wife and kids. Well, for what ever reason he really lost it Saturday night, and tried to kill his wife. He got her in a bear hug, and told her he was not letting go until she was dead. Even after she passed out, he told her he could still hear gurgling, hurry up and die. Their daughter made him let go, and got her out of there. She called the cops and had him arrested. They live in Colorado, and she is now on a plane back to her Moms home in Michigan. Everyone is so upset, and a lot of mixed feeling.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

oh dear, Linda, you know I am praying..

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Thanks LK for the pointer at that chick. My eyes are going south along with my boobs. :)) Very sorry about your brother. That is a rough thing for sure.

Happ your red spot thing could be lily pollen. That stuff really travels and runs when it gets wet.

Sooz if I had to move everything I have planted in the "wrong" spot, I'd have to dig it all up and start over. Like your cannas that I planted this Spring. put them in front of the azaleas and behind the hard hibiscus. Well the hibis are bigger this year than they've ever been and the cannas aren't as tall as I thought they might be. I gots me a real big mess back there. :))

Disco White "radar dishes" as DH calls them.

Those are so pretty!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

rvnsbrk, I guess it could be pollen, that daylily is suppose to have darker petals in the center than on the outside, and where the color ran off the daylily is much lighter. Heck I don't know except that the color ran and the daylily is blotchy now, and where the heck is my pic with the paper towel....rofl. Hate that when that happens... ;)

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Want to say hello to you all, but at the same time my heart aches for you LindaKay. I am so sorry, and yes you and your family do have my prayers.
Susan, all your pictures are of a "show garden" including the last color combo.
I haven't had the Daylily color my hands but my purple Glads. did.
Susie, I agree with Nita, lucky find. I think most of us would like that set. I have a set on my back fence made on that order, and I have Hen & Chicks in it also. They are so neglected. I planted them at least 4 yrs ago and now the only thing I ever do for them is take some out for other places. Hurry and show your "Chicken Coup"

Yes LK, prayers are with you, brother, wife, children, family .......everyone that this will touch.

OOPS, sent wrong pic. This poor thing needs TLC in the form of taking apart, taking out, cleaning and new growing food.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Susie, you were in the right place at the right time! Nice job!

Faye, love your planters too!

Not a good day here. I went town and was gone for about an hour, and someone tried to break in the house through the back door. Waiting on the cops to show up! Gun in hand, and hubby is home. Nothing seems to be missing, but my nerves are a wreck!

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

Could of been worse. They could of "gotten in" and you of been alone there by yourself. Sometimes you just gotta count your blessings.

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Oh Linda, What a nightmare you must be living in right now. I am so sorry and do wish there was something I could do to help you. Sending you hugs and prayers.
AYF, Faye

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Well, nothing is missing, but we were told, because we live on the border, there has been a rash of break ins because of the increase of heroin being sold.
Times likes this, wish I was back in Michigan.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Oh Linda Kay, I know how awful that feels.......be glad you weren't there.

Faye, that is too cool.

Heck darn DeeJay if there is something in the trash that looks good (at the dump) I grab it and I have trained Dh to do the same. Now along side the road out in the open same thing goes. As a matter a fact I am sitting things out there tonight for someone to hopefully pick up, one of the curly hoses that makes me crazy, and 3 - 3 legged metal plant stands that tip over when the wind blows, let alone when the 120# labs hits it with his tail.

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Happ you are a girl after my own heart.

LK that is terrible. I often wondered with you being so close to the border if there were things like that possible. I wold be scared to death. So glad you weren't home. You need to get a guard dog. Although when I had my husky people that came to the door were scared to death of him. He looked so fierce with those blue eyes. Little did they know he would have licked them to death.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

ok I filled it now just have to watch it fill out :) but i will have to move it off the porch but it was really to hot to work out in the yard much cooler on the deck :)

Susie, is there a rod through all those pots? Sure is pretty!

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

yes there is & It sure is heavy . nice part is it will come apart easy enough to move :) can hardly wait for it to fill out :) well critter are in & daddy is sleeping in his chair for it is to hot in his bedroom so i will go rig up a fan for him you all have a great evening .

Oh I Love to shop second hand stores , yard sales , ect ect ect :) HEHEE When I CAN >
I just got lucky this morning .

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Nice score and looks great with your succulents, Susie.

Hugs, LK! Just thank your lucky stars you weren't home. How awful your Brother chooses to take out his anger on his wife and kids. Do you think mental help or anger management would help him?

We need rain so badly and the heat and humidity have returned, only to worsen as the week wears on, but it's nothing like you folks in the Deep South & Heartland are going through. Our once lush green lawn is now brown and crispy, much to hubby's dismay. My gardens probably peaked about mid-June, but on the upside we've been enjoying fresh tomatoes and cukes from our patio garden, and several of our first squash will be ready to pick in a couple of days.

Have you picked up your Stained Glass piece yet, happ? Now that was another great find.

One of my volunteer Sunflowers is saying to ya all "be happy".

I sure hope he gets the help he needs!

Happ, that is so pretty! Save me some seeds please?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

linda , I can't believe the times you have had this year so far, geez..
I sure am jealous of your find, susie.
I am so jealous of your hardy disco white hibiscus.. it is awsome, neener.
Faye, I can't figure out what I am doing wrong with hens n chicks. aren't you suppose to bury the little stem thingies?
gosh Joyce, I would take those threelegged plant stands and figure out how to use them for vines to crawl all over.. LOL

Fruity, here is a glory for you..

Good morning everyone. Getting ready to go in for my biopsy here in a few minutes.

Weatherman just said we have had 16 100+ temp days and 12 near 100 temp days so far this summer. I think our normal 100+ days is something like 11, and the forecast shows 100+ for at least the next 7 days on the forecast. Geez .... I just keep thinking about the 24" of snow we had this winter. ^_^

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning Crit. Hope your biopsy goes well. Is this your first one? I have had several, and they are not that bad. Let us know how it goes.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Debra, I haven't put the 3 legged tipping things out yet. I could hold them for you, we will surely cross paths sooner or later. They just won't work on this windy hill with 4 dogs. They are white but if you get enough vine or spray them you wouldn't see them.

Crit good luck on the biopsy, hope it is something minor....

According to the weather guy, this hot front is going to head east by the first of next week. Sorry guys I hate sending this to you. It is miserable. Heat not so bad but the humidity is horrible. I was watering at 9pm and sweating like I was running a race. Not like I would really know what that was like...rofl except what I have seen on TV... LOL

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Susan, a volunteer anything that looks like that would be a welcome sight to me. I didn't know Sunflowers were anything but yellow...where have I been?
Debra try not watering your Hens& Chicks to much.

Now speaking of volunteers, look what my entertainment was this morning.

Another view of my visitor. Ray actually rubbed his throat, then souped his hand around him to put him on the floor and lol, got his hand and the table Pd on. Wouldn't believe how much "P" that little thing had. (Bet he was about to wet his pants & Ray frightened him.)

AW Faye!! You made my day with that picture. What a sweetie. I had a frog this morning too, althought he wasn't in as fine shape as yours. Musta been a rough night catwise around here. :)
