You can uninstall IE9 which will revert your computer to the prev version you had before the update, but removing IE altogether is not advisable.. in the future you may encounter problems with auto-update, windows defender and windows built-in firewall, since any update MS sends out will first check to see what ver of IE you have, if it doesnt have the latest ver it may not be able to install the update to those modules.

Since Windows XP, Windows based computers are heavily dependent on the internet to function properly. Port addresses and I/O settings are assigned automatically through the initial IE installation when the windows operating system is loaded on to a blank computer. I've been setting up Windows since Win 3.0 when you had to do it manually and it's a real pain.. Regardless of what browser you use IE sets up the playing field for communications. It identifies you and secures an IP address, Firefox, Othello, Chrome all use the info IE generates.

Here's the link with instructions on how to revert to the prev version of IE. Personally I choose to allow the update and use another browser for the time being, there's always a domino effect when Gates makes you an offer you can't refuse and you refuse it, - it will come back to haunt you sooner or later.. (lol!)

Thanks I will check it out tomorrow or later today.

sound not working on my computer since windows 7 was installed. Perhaps just as well.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Sounds like you may have lost the sound drivers to the motherboard assuming you don't have a separate sound card, like Soundblaster.. You may be able to go the the manufacturer website for your computer and download the drivers, I did that for a friend of mine who lost his when he upgraded.

Just got back from a weekend on Long Island, and things are really lush here. It must have rained a lot of the weekend.

Sherrie - glad to hear that the black stuff is coming off!

I'm an Apple convert myself. I love my iPhone and will be switching from Windows and Mr. Gates when it is time for a new laptop. I'd also love to have an i-Pad, but it isn't in my budget just now. My print capability just disappeared recently, so I need to check to see what version of IE is now on my computer. Listening to what WC is saying, I'm suspicious that my print driver took a hike with the latest upgrade. I have the start-up disk, but haven't had time to re-install it.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

sherrie just look at recent updates and get rid of the last IE update - mine was 5/13 - coincidence i think not!

Got rid of IE9 - dont down load it anyone

Article in the paper yesterday that a mountain lion was killed by an SUV in Milford, CT....but the DEP is saying it was someone's pet.....amazing how many mountain lions are being kept as pets in CT!

East Bridgewater, MA

The "pet chimp" that chewed the face off of a victim a few years ago, is still in the news, because the victim is now recovering from a "face transplant."

Let's hope she has reasonable results...but her life will never be the same...ever.

Some creatures are not supposed to be "pets."

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

saw that on the news last night marilyn - i think they said they "thought" it was a pet as they are not supposed to be here - would not be surprised if they are here now.

Thomaston, CT

Bill, this has been going on for at least 3 years....photos, & reliable witnesses...like my art teacher, who know what mountain lions look like .....the DEP keeps saying there are none, or that they are escaped pets....I believe the lions are coming down from Canada because we have so many deer.....I don't believe anyone would keep one as a pet, they are too ferocious....

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I went to a pet shop in Fl that sold everything! monkeys, anacondas, (I think they charged $5.00 to feed the anaconda at lunch time...), squirrels, prairie dogs, alligators, 4' monitor lizards - If you didn't see it you could put in a special order! I went to check out their aquarium dept but they didn't have anything interesting...
Then one day I saw on TV that they were finally shut down after years of being open, I just can't help but wonder how many more of them are out there.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Saw that too, but also heard that reports of spottings of them continue! People are just stupid. Horrible what happened to the chimp woman but it was her own fault.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Their range could indeed be extending, or shifting, lots of changes going on.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

they had a picture of the mtn. lion on TV and it was a BIG cat - no one would have had it as a pet and kept it quite. their range is extending for sure.

plan to take in this garden tour in july - http://rockportgardenclub.org/ - check out the photos from last year

Spent a long time removing a weed in flower. Compound leaves and round light purple flowers. ID anyone?? No pic.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Tradescantia family? like Spiderwort? - nahh you would know that one.. it has light purple flowers though..

I have a real nice weed I took a pic of today, not sure if it's even a weed, popped up out of nowhere but in a safe enough spot so I can keep it if I find out it isn't a weed, ...got to transfer the pic to my computer.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

No - I should have taken a pic.

Went to drop off stuff at the county hazardous waster place and two funny things happened. First, as I pulled in, I saw three of the workers on a smoke break! Duh - smoking is not hazardous?!!

Second, this big bald dude with an earring winked at me as he returned from his break. He then came over to chat with me as his co-workers unloaded my stuff. I was waiting for him to ask for my number. Hee hee!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Did he ask you to be his Twitter friend?

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Must be sending out the wrong vibes.. wear an eye patch and color one front tooth black, that should do it..

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

- Thanks Iris, a good friend of mine saw the post and told me it was Sweet William.
I've never planted Sweet William here, - ever. So I guess a bird gave it to me! Ordering some seeds tonight, it's very nice & doing well.. ☺

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Congrats to your parents Victor!

Looks like a great garden tour, Bill. LOVE the houses on the water!!! What a great view!!!!!!!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Congratulations to your parents, Victor!

South Hamilton, MA

yes, your parents show that marriage works.

Thomaston, CT

Rockport is a great town for a garden tour, Bill ....enjoy. This morning's paper had a quote from the DEP spokesman....the mt lion was not neutered, not declawed, not in flabby shape, no one in CT has a permit for one....2 in NY, but neither of those escaped ....well, hello, maybe it WAS wild! Victor, best wishes for your parents...hope they enjoy their day!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

do you think? really:)
