Jen I have some in my home made earth boxes.. they always do good in reg containers as well.. didn't grow as many this year as in the past.. didn't have an overload like I usually do

:)

(Pam) Warren, CT(Zone 5b)

My pattypan squashes (9 plants) provided enough 2-3" for 2 servings this week. I just steamed them, left the small ones whole, cut the bigger ones in half. Yum! I meant to add herbs but forgot. Next time mint maybe?
First sown beets almost ready. Lots of Lettuce, radishes.
Still only green tomatoes. Cukes only a few inches high, Bok Choy a couple. Pole beans just starting to climb. Herbs slow, especially basil. Disappointing. I guess I got spoiled last year with that super-hot spring. I ordered Root Blast finally, should be here in a couple of days. I hope it makes a difference...better late than never?

I ate my first Sweet 100 last night. It was _almost_ fully ripe. Had to. It was good.

(Pam) Warren, CT(Zone 5b)

Lucky you! I'm hoping for Sweet Million soon...they don't make it to the house for weeks after they start going.

Pam

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

nice.. still green here

Hudson, MA

That's how it is here with peas. I've been harvesting almost daily for weeks, but they've only made it into the house a couple of times...and to the stove once. I always wish I'd planted more.

Thomaston, CT

Peas & lettuce...plus one yellow pepper....that's all I have been eating from the garden....

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

was feeling good about a few tomato plants I put in the garden.. went past the spot before.. and they were all eaten 6" up from the ground.. set the groundhog trap.. and hope he doesn't get my others on the other side of the yard.. UGH.. I don't know where the burrow is.. looked at the usual spots.. nothing there.. still filled in with rocks.. must be by the neighbors or up in the woods

:(

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Ugh - sorry.

Thomaston, CT

Oh, no.....they are awful in the garden!

Stamford, CT(Zone 6b)

I hope keeping them off the ground makes it harder for the critters to attack.

In one day our Connecticut heat did its job. These tomatoes were just starting to ripen yesterday. During today they really took off. They ought to be ready for vine eating tomorrow. They are sweet golds. I can't wait for tomorrow....

That is one of the reasons I did the high (30 inch) raised beds.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I have TWO (2) baby tomatoes. Sigh. Waiting for balckberries to get ripe. *tap, tap, tap*

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

we have a couple here too - much better than last year - i think it was august - everything is growing by the day

Thomaston, CT

I found a blackberry growing in the compost pile.....would love to get some before the birds.....my son's blueberry farm opens for picking tomorrow....he said the berries are huge this year. I guess I'll pick next week.....

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Lots of yummy blueberries!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I have baby cukes...should be able to eat my first one by Sunday or Monday. ^_^

(Pam) Warren, CT(Zone 5b)

Pixie, when did you start your cukes, inside or out? We're in almost the same zone, but I'm way behind you.

Pam

Animals ate all ours!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I started some inside and some I bought already started. I planted them outside the 1st week in June.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I think the ones I started direct outside look the best but still small... the ones I bought & started inside early.. the critters ate.. I bought another big one and it's starting to recover.. was looking kind of ratty... but was pretty big.. figured there is lots of vines to hopefully take off

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

This was taken Thursday or Friday. ^_^ ^_^ ^_^

woo hoo!!

Thomaston, CT

No blooms on mine yet.....the rain saved my garden!

(Pam) Warren, CT(Zone 5b)

I'm glad to hear it, especially since it probably helped mine too. We won't be back until next Saturday. Fingers crossed everything's still ok by then...

Hip-hip hooray for blueberries !!!!

One of nature's superfruits!

Thomaston, CT

You should have veggies when you come back, Pam....Yes, BA, blueberries are wonderful for antioxidents...of course, they're great in a pie, too!

Thomaston, CT

As I was hacking the grass out of my garden, I found blossoms on both the cukes & squash....also one variety of green beans is blossoming....I've never had such awful grass in the garden before...it's taking forever to get rid of it.....

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Harvesting Cukes, Peppers both green and hot, Haricot Verte, Sugar snaps, yellow squash, zucchini. Kale, Broc, Radishes, and lettuce, but no tomatoes yet. Blueberries are turning blue here too.

We are battling nut grass as always, but not so much in the old veggie, but the new area and some other fairly new beds. Hate that stuff. We had a good rain last night, spoiled some of the DL blossoms, but was great for the veggie beds.

Any body else trying to grow fennel bulbs? Love them, but never get huge bulbs like I can buy at the market. I am going to try to mound them up as they form to hopefully get them bigger like you do for potatoes. Sadly our Peaches look lousy again this year. Patti

Thats one huge veggie garden. We all have to admit it - there is no getting rid of weeds.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

schickenlady, Not so big, just overly planted. I assume, it will be a problem down the road. How is the sawdust working out? Patti

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Straining my medlar liqueur today. Jeez is it strong! I'm not a drinker and I used grain alcohol, sugar and medlars last Fall to make it. I'm cutting up the fruit into little bits to use for something else. Drunkin' muffins, anyone?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

LOL Yank!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Use it on ice cream.

Thomaston, CT

Never knew there was such a fruit....Patti, I grew fennel several years, but never got large bulbs....neither my son nor DH liked fennel, so I don't grow it anymore....

Stamford, CT(Zone 6b)

Patti, that's some beautiful garden in a beautiful yard. I hope you have help to maintain. We used to grow lettuce varieties, but we could not give them away as quickly as they grew, even staggered planting. Our approximately 50 tomato plants keep us constantly on our toes and ladders. Assuming the "tepees" are for the tomatoes, you have set everything up so well. You are a great planner!
Happy eating,
Marcia
