All this rain is not good for the tomatoes....they need sun & heat! Patti, it sounds like your garden will feed part of VT! You'll be busy preserving in the fall.....Swiss chard is wonderful cut up & sauteed with bacon, onions, & fresh tomatoes......

Getting scared. The pepper plants are starting to look droopy. Jim said he will take all the sawdust off. This is going to be brutal = what I see is what lives or dies. Not funny and not joking

Thomaston, CT

Hope the peppers are OK! I know how much time you spent planting them!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Sherrie, my peppers are sulking from the cool weather and all that rain. They look better tonight after a day of rays, maybe they just need some warmth?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That would be my guess too.

Picked my first Sun Gold tomato!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Victor, No way. Can I hate you? Kidding, beyond jealous. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, Patti. I bought three larger plants which already had a few small fruits starting.

Cat - how long have you had the persimmons?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Everyone has told me Sun Gold is less acidic. I am still very reluctant to jump back in with tomatoes after eliminating them got rid of my summertime stomach probs.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Victor, Thanks for splaining, as I thought you were just gifted. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Glad I made you think not. ^_^

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Victor, I should have said "exceptionally gifted" as I know you are "gifted"

I am in Boston, so I don't know how the veggie bed is doing with all the cool weather, but DH told me that the Ddeer pulled out the newly planted Raspberry starts while we were gone. Now caged. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr; Patti

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I did like the sungolds Victor.. but that was the blight year and they all split on me... only got a few

Thomaston, CT

Yellow toms are less acidic, but I don't like the taste....I think I would like them as Patti prepares them, though....

Aphids have come alive. I had this problem 2 years ago. The year it was so wet and the blight also came in and stomped all over me.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Victor - time delay as I am in California for the week. The persimmon was the first tree I put in when I moved into this house and I have lived here 8 years - so it is at a minimum 6 years old.

Thomaston, CT

Hey, Memory, have a great time in Calif!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow, long time. Thanks, and enjoy CA!

Aphids under control and sawdust gardening looking so far. In one word - Sweet.

Thomaston, CT

Good for you, Sherrie. I'm not too happy with my garden....it's still muddy, full of weeds, germination was very spotty with the beets & chard......spent some time weeding, but it's a drop in the bucket....my garden cannot take any more rain, & rain is coming tomorrow....not happy.

East Bridgewater, MA

Yes, the past 10 days have been dark and wet...maybe someone is growing mushrooms.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Seems this is the pattern this year.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I have 2 figs on my Chicago hardy!!!.. hopefully I can get one and not the critters!!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Congrats!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes! Hope they last. Mine always shriveled up.

Thomaston, CT

Yum, fresh figs!

So far so good, looking sweet and I am loving it. Still leary...???? YES I have one tomato plant going on 30 inches. Good grief. Only 3 weeks.

Thomaston, CT

I noticed a tiny pepper today...yay!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I am seeing some tiny peppers too, but only on some bigger starts that we bought. Lots of flowering going on. But something has been chewing on some of our leaves. Must spray. Patti

Your garden looks great, Patti.....mine is so full of weeds, I'm ashamed to show it.....

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Ha, Check back in a month. Ours will be too most likely. Patti

Thomaston, CT

Managed to weed the herb garden today, & planted orange mint & what I thought was chocolate mint until I looked at the tag.....black peppermint.....oh, well. it doesn't spread like spearmint which I have been yanking out for 30 years.....

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Robindog, You are brave to plant any mint in the ground. I now plant it in big black plastic nursery pots and leave them outside in the winter and they seem to come back each year and stay in the pots. Patti

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

mine are in containers outside all year as well... kind of hard to dig in there the roots get so bound up.. but it's amazing how it rebounds and fills the containers back up in no time.. always have some to share

Thomaston, CT

I guess some mints aren't as invasive as others...I had black peppermint before, & it has died out after a few years.....

(Pam) Warren, CT(Zone 5b)

Harvested radishes, peas, ready to pull them out. Lettuce still going. Lots of green tomatoes on Sungold, a few others. Squash huuuuuuge! And lots of teeny babies on them. A few beans and cukes showing from sowing 2 weeks ago. Beet greens need thinning, perfect for for salad. Yum! Blueberry bushes planted 2 weeks ago look happy. That's it for now...

Pam

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

baby toms on one plant

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

On the sungolds, dumb question. At what point do you pick them? Mine are turning red. Does that mean they are past ripe??

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Are they the size they are supposed to be?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - small cherry size.
