those are gorgeous, mine are just now blooming.. it is kinda like spring here all over again, frst it was cold then hot and then cold again, things got confused.. we will keep an eye on this one too, it is I. Lindenheimeri I kept going over winter, it is climbing the honeysuckle also.. I am going to move it to the north fence after I finish thinning out all the prennials there..
Spring 2011 - What's blooming in your garden? Part 3
wow is that a mortagae lifter? I love big tomatoes. I have so many plants blooming, and a few with small fruits.
Joe loves romas, mine are going to be good this year, I can tell. it is loaded ..
my poor baby banana has a new leaf, we thought it was dead, it came out in early spring, then got cold. Joe really likes this banana that a DG'r gave me.. it is by the pond, in between the tomatoe and potatoe patch. Told Joe I can't wait for him to dig up the taters, so I can move my morning glorys and tomatoes to that spot.
I like the leaves on your I. Lindenheimeri, Debra. What color is the bloom?
I lost all my Scarlet Milkweed plants this past winter. So sprinkled some seeds around the daylily bed and Oops! Got way too many milkweed plants now! Some of the MW is as tall as me! LOL!The butterflies and caterpillars don't seem to mind the crop of MW though! :-)
Are those tators leaves in that one photo? Looks like my watermelon patch of which I over-planted and don't have the heart to rip any of them out! LOL! I have 2 baby watermelons developing so far! We'll see if they make to ripe without splitting like they did last year.
My backyard garden is looking nice and green despite the drought we are having so far this year. The one bad thing about white fencing is that is develops fungus on the slates from the humidity here. Don't look very attractive. :-(
Debra - Your butterfly garden looks lovely. I bet the butterflies will be flocking to it! :-)
I tried to grow a hedge of ixora last year to separate the butterfly/hummingbird garden area from the rest of the backyard. The cold winter killed them all. Well, ironically, the milkweed seeds floated around and landed in those beds that the ixora were in. I now have 2 hedges of MW separating those two garden areas. LOL! Who'd have ever guessed that MW makes a nice hedge. When I prune them, they will get even bushier!

Debra - Your pink and yellow flowers in that area are gorgeous! I am jealous!
My brugs have been blooming for 2 months. Found out that Bloom Booster will kill them by causing their leaves to turn yellow and drop. So now I am using just regular MiracleGro on them. Thank goodness Charleen warned me about that fertilizer! (yikes!)
Debra - Is Maya a variegated Brug???? It's beautiful! Love that purple flower cluster in your following post. What kind of plant is that?
Yes, that is Lisianthus "Echo Blue" blooms in my photo! Love that plant! It is an annual (I believe) and grows so quick! It blooms profusely for me. The blooms look like purple roses and stay open for days! :-) One of those plants (seeds) I tried on a whim and really like! ;-)
Pixie, I love all your Iris's, so pretty.
Nick, gorgeous Clitoria ternatea, my favorite blue flower
Becky, great passis. Esp like the one with the barbed fruit. Great
red Firecracker vine too Love your pink daylily. Mine is ugly by comparison
with the grass all growing up inside
Great canary vine Debra. I cant get those to bloom here for some reason
Eager to see your yard when everything is blooming. Incredible amt of work you and Becky both put into it.
Jackie - Those are some determined daylilies you have there! Very pretty shades of pink! The grass/weeds killed some of my daylilies 3 years ago. I am hoping that the Milkweed doesn't kill the ones I have now. I might have to remove a lot of the Milkweed. Which won't make the butterflies very happy! Something will have to give if I don't. Oh well. Sometimes you can actually have too much of a good thing in the wrong place in a garden! LOL!
those daylillies sure look happy, Jackie.. Becky that last bloom of mine is phlox..
I am going to have to try some lisathus sometime for fun..
Thanks Becky and Debra. Becky, I woinder if you could just relocate some of the milkweeds?
Thanks, Debra! Nice phlox bloom! I had several of them growing a couple years ago, but something ate every one of them!
Jackie - Milkweed does not transplant well. Any disturbance of the roots and they die. I may just have to discard some or maybe pruning them hard, might help. They will die when the winter weather hits them. But I don't want them blocking my daylilies from the sun or take fertilizer nutrients from my daylilies. Good thing that daylilies are pretty tough plants. :-)
LOL! Love the name of those daylilies! Lovely, both of them! Nice red color on the last one, too! :-)
zinniared - Beautiful blooms. Do the Phlox have a scent? Very pretty daylily, too! ;-)
Very nice blooms Pixie, Linda and Becky.
This is what Rosemoor blooms look like as they age. You see streaks of blue in the petals. I really like clematis and there is a large variety of cultivars just like with MGs. I am so glad that I can grow them here in my zone. I had talked to several sellers and they said they didn't know if they would hold up to the heat in my zone. I have them in partial shade and they do just fine. They don't like to be watered too often, so that works perfect here! LOL!
Thank you patootie & niffty!
Becky that Rosemoor is stunning!!! It DOES look like velvet!
Looks like after finally two years I am getting blooms on one of my bearded irises! I am so excited that I can actually grow them here! I was told that they probably wouldn't do well here and probably not bloom. I am glad that isn't true. They are growing in a 5 gallon bucket. I have 2 more, but don't know what cultivar those are either. This one looks like it may be a light blue. Perhaps tomorrow these two buds will open in all their glory! :-)
Thanks, Pixie! I have two Rosemoor vines growing. One in each of two containers that also have red blooming climbing roses also growing in them. I am letting the clematis vines climb up the rose stalks. Looks great! The blooms are a plus! ♥
I picked 4 big green peppers off my bush yesterday, but I am leaving these on to ripen to red. :-) I am getting such a thrill growing veggies! So cool! Green peppers go for about a $1 each at Walmart here. I got a packet of seeds 2 years ago for just a little more than a $1. Such a deal! I've gotten quite a few large peppers off this bush (and another one of the same cultivar).

And you have the perfect weather peppers like. ^_^
Pixie - Your delphinium is stunning! WOW!!!! :-)
This is my Bougainvillea Bonsai blooming again this year! I've had this plant for 3 years now and it is one tough mini! I have several Bonsai plants. Two I bought (this is one of them) and 8 I created (actually still projects in the works).

Beautiful Becky!!
Thanks, Pixie! I like so many different plants and all the different ways to grow them. Some folks collect art work, I collect plants! LOL! I feel like I am becoming an amateur plant connoisseur collector! LOL!
I recently picked up some succulents on clearance and one of them is sending out bloom buds. LOL! I didn't know those plants bloomed! What a surprise! I am waiting for the blooms to open. Pretty neat. I want to try making a hypertufa planter to grow these succulents in! LOL! There are so many plants I like and more I discover every week. I need a bigger back yard, I think ...
