We came from here:

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1171015

The thread is to talk about anything for which we are thankful that day, be it big, small, or anywhere in between.

(Zone 7a)

Thanks for the new thread. Sometime we forget there are some that may have trouble.

Thankful for Debra refreshing us. My 'flick the mouse' finger was getting abused to get down to the bottom.

(Carole) Cleveland, TX(Zone 9a)

ty Debra!

Jim, I work for a phone company so we have quite a few customers who have been "bit" by those 3rd party "entrepreneurs" scamming off people. I know several of us here personally have also, including myself. It's a wonder I haven't been bit more and for more money. Makes you sick when you realize those charges are on your bill--and can be home OR cell (mine was cell).

Just be care whenever you sign up for something online, give them your phone number, and then they have a box that says something like "click here to say you agree to our terms and conditions." ALWAYS at least SCAN those TC for $$$$$ -- I've caught over a dozen that were going to charge me for SOMEthing. Charges can be for voice mail, email, photo storage, even internet access. These companies have to be called using the number on your bill, and you can only stop them from future billing; do NOT expect any refunds.

And yes, it IS unfortunately legal (per the FCC).

thankful for the few days I had off with my husband. he left at 2am for GA, but may be headed back to TX for his delivery.

thankful for a darling husband who cut down our big pine tree by himself, and repaired the fence while i was at work. then hauled all the cut up logs to our big burn pile.

thankful for this job, even though it can be terribly stressful sitting here ALL DAY and listening to people .... hmmm.... better not finish that sentence LOL (i'm in customer service). I DO get good calls too, but the not-so-nice people are draining.

thankful to see 40% chance of rain in our forecast for tomorrow.

(Debra) Garland, TX

cajun, i've worked one form of customer service or another for almost 40 years. even the good ones can be exhausting. empathize with you. [hug]

Today, I am thankful for fast plant catalog mail order shipping. (yea, bluestone!)

I am thankful for the 70% prediction of rain for tomorrow. Going to need to dig up more space to plant the plants that just arrived. Softer ground makes it easier. LOL

And today I am thankful for once-a-month-application flea/tick/heartworm meds for my pooches.

Today I am thankful the rain stopped long enough I could get some of the new garden soil from the bag to the beds.

(Carole) Cleveland, TX(Zone 9a)

thankful today is FRIDAY!!! (yes, Lord!) stopping by the "dirt place" on my way home for another bag of humus (i only get what i can work with at a time, esp. since i drive past it daily). i have some plants i want to get in the ground while it's soft *smile, Debra* and then i'll mulch. i saw last night i need to weed some too.

thankful that it's rained here finally. i woke up to find my dream come true HA! that when i woke up i'd see the ground was soaked with rain (not soppy) and that my plants are all happy. they will be shielded today from any burning sun. thankful for a cloudy day ;-)

4-1/2 hrs. to go here. this seems like it's been a longer week than normal.
i love my job.
i love my job.

today, i am thankful to be reminded that it is more important to a child to keep your word than to give them any store-bought present.

i am thankful for the rain today, we'll be begging for it in august :/

and i am thankful for kuai tiao song krung and chicken satay from tukta thai. :-)

(Zone 7a)

Ohhhhhhh...I LOVE Thai food!

(Debra) Garland, TX

tukta thai is really good and only 5 minutes from my office. the boss introduced me to it a few years back. at least twice a month on fridays, we order lunch from there. i even got my sister to try some of their food and she hates ANYTHING that could be considered "exotic." LOL

(Zone 7a)

We only have 2 good Thai restaurants here.

Today, I'm thankful for steak and baked sweet potatoes.

(Debra) Garland, TX

Steak, yum!

Daylilies are starting to bud and bloom. Maybe I'll remember to mark their locations and colors this year. LOL

===================================================
Thankful today for plant markers and Sharpies.

Thankful today for microwave popcorn.

Thankful today for cable television. Dropped service down to the bare bones basic on Thursday, but they haven't yet made the change. Still have TCM, Fox Sports Southwest, and USA channels for tomorrow. :-)

Really really cold milk and a Snickers Peanut Butter Squared bar ('cause I don't like regular Snickers LOL).

Rolling pins.

(Zone 7a)

Today, I am thankful we got the raised bed finished. It just needs plants. I am, also, thankful we got the other new bed in back finished before the rain started.

(Debra) Garland, TX

kwan, i bought a 4' x 4' x 10" cedar raised. put it together with some help, but haven't yet figured out where to locate it, so its just laying next to the garage. LOL

(Debra) Garland, TX

Today, I am thankful that:~~~

My home printer was fixed.

Only got three bites this evening before I realized I was pulling weeds in a fire ant bed.

I was directed to a really good gardener's hand soap. Works amazingly well.

Debra I love your use of the red and blackish mulches. I had wanted to get some of the red mulch, but not for areas were there are edibles as I am concerned about the dyes. Do you have weed cloth underneath and how deep is the mulch. Lowes, online, has a calculator for how much mulch you would need to buy. You put in the dimensions and depth you want it. Wow, even the sale mulch ends up being expensive for a NOT huge area.

(Zone 7a)

Today, I am thankful Debra didn't get bitten more! Those can be painful.

Also...
Steven Wright
Helen MIrren
My DB Mark
And that the Hummingbirds have returned.

(Debra) Garland, TX

Don't it seem like they is saying, "Hi, y'all!"

Debra, how are you doing? See you (and my family) are on tornado alert. Not the good way to get rain, heh?

(Debra) Garland, TX

We're fine. Had a small lake in my backyard. And this section of houses is on a slight slope, so a river was running across my driveway for awhile. I have rocks piled in strategic places to break up the flow and keep all the soil from washing away when it happens. But, aside from some small branches, all is intact. Thank you for asking. :-)

(Zone 7a)

Whew! Glad to hear it!

(Debra) Garland, TX

It was a odd night. Two separate storm systems, one right after the other. The first one with three weirdly shaped shaped sections and abnormal direction from what is usual here, then the second front was more of a normal southwest to northeast continuous line. High winds, lots of rotation, big hail, torrential rains...lucky that the worst of it went around my neighborhood. Had a Rangers/White Sox game in Arlington and they tried to move everyone to the stairways under the stadium. The hail came before everyone was off the field and there was a scramble to get in the dugouts. Was jest a peculiar evenin' all the way around! :-)

(Zone 7a)

I can understand the scramble to get under cover! LOL Those things HURT!!!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I am thankful that I have learned to let the past go and live in the present.

(Debra) Garland, TX

today i am thankful last nights storms did relatively little damage

i am thankful for neighborhood pharmacies

and i am thankful for plastic hair clippy/combs :-)

Midland City, AL

I am thankful we are expecting rain tomorrow.
I second Kwan, HUMMINGBIRDS! No matter how much I'm hurting their antics can make me laugh. (Jim)

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

Glad your OK Debra. My sister in Dallas spent the night in her tub - with her iPhone, lol. Looks like it is heading toward my sister in Cincy and friend in Pittsburg area. Boy, they are ready to have the rain STOP! Heard something about selling swampland up there.

Today I am thankful for such a diligent young man that we hired to CLEAN off the land. I am SO HAPPY looking at all those weeds gone and plants planted. Just looks so organized, does my soul well. I hate to go in the house though.....

(Zone 7a)

Peanut butter cookies.

(Debra) Garland, TX

yum! kwan, do you like the ones with the Hershey's kiss baked in the middle? Think they are called Thumbprints in some recipes.

(Zone 7a)

I do like those but I have RLS and stay away from chocolate. I miss chocolate. (sigh...)

Today, I am thankful for finding a job for which I can actually apply. Most need a degree of some kind.

Also, am thankful all the seedlings I put in the ground appear happy.

(Debra) Garland, TX

yeah, that would be a tough one to give up. a dear friend has extreme sensitivities to caffeine in any form, so even the smallest amount of chocolate is enough to make her off kilter, or ill. since she loves chocolate...and works for mars...and they have free chocolates and ice cream machines in the office...well, lets say she is a stronger soul than anyone EYE know. LOL

(Debra) Garland, TX

Today, I am doubly, especially, happily thankful for Bob Selman at Blue Ridge Daylilies.

I am thankful for the strong young men and women who not only let me boss them around during the day at the office, but cheerfully come mow my yard and dig my beds after work and on weekend afternoons.

I am thankful for exuberant, gamboling dogs who are always enthusiastically happy to see me even if I've only been gone five minutes. :-)

Nothing in the world like a smile from a happy dog! LOL

(Carole) Cleveland, TX(Zone 9a)

SO thankful that the hail storm the other night left only SIX LITTLE PECKS on my car and no other damage!!

Thankful especially that we have a 3 day weekend--whoohoo!
Because I plan to get more soil, manure, tomato & pepper plants and mulch this weekend. whoohoo again!!!

Thankful for my good friends.

LIFE IS GOOD!

Life IS good! LOL

Oh My - they have free chocolates and ice cream machines in the office - I would either weight 400 lbs or the smell of chocolate would start to make me ill (that would be a good thing).

Today I am thankful for my DD's lovely graduation from High School yesterday. It was touch and go a few times.... Wow, 500 kids, 12 tickets each, it was full stadium (local minor baseball stadium) and me in the nosebleed section. Also thankful for long camera lenses.

Sincere and deep thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Cullins, who provided the military photographs of their son, Joshua, and generously gave permission to use them on the Green Amber Gardens remembrance website.
