So we may be getting this dog: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/19498610-Jerry-Basset%20Hound-Dog-Manchester-NH

They've accepted my application and I spoke to the lady who has him now. We may be going up to see him on Sunday. He sounds wonderful and is so adorable!

Barn owls are rare....wonder where that video was from? Karen, look at Jerry's face, then the face of my Suey....I think Jerry is a pointer mix! Whatever, he's a cutie!

Patches is too cute. I love the last photo!

He thinks if he's behind the computer screen, I can't see him. I didn't want to break it to him that he might be the one millionth kitty to think that.

On a more interesting note,I've noticed that the birds raise a ruckus if Bugs goes outside. The minute I pick him up, they stop. I guess they understand that a cat can't harm them if it's contained by a human. I was surprised they could put that together.

wow that is impressive for the birds... and he is too cute in the photo!!!... Eros ... he was making me nuts last night.. gave them all cookies that are shaped like mini bagels... and it is the same size of his fav. toy... he played with that thing for hours last night... everyone was stalking him for it.. and I was worried about Lily getting aggressive .. but I had to tape him vibrating for me to play with it... all I know is he went to sleep with it.. and now it's gone.. not sure if he ate it or someone else

Tick #4 crawled on me in bed at 1 am. 4 ticks in 2 weeks. I almost got up and came here and vented. I think I have had enuff of TICKS

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

spray the yard Sherrie.. there are even all natural repellants.. I know that is an easier task with my little lot but maybe it will help

Mr. goes everywhere. There is no possible way to spray this whole place. If he sees a bird he will go out in the swamp! 3 acre's up hills, down hills, left and right, I dont see it happening with the swamp.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

guess not

I just say in another thread that guinea hens are death on ticks. Could you have guinea hens running loose?

What is that?

Edited - there is turkeys that run around up here but they dont look anything like that.

Opps! Technically they are Guinea Fowl. http://www.gfba.org/ Here is a link to the Guinea Fowl Society website. They can provide eggs as well as meat and they love to eat ticks and don't tear up the garden - from what I have read. Try a google or DG search.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I know the guy that owned the barn that I kept my horse at.. had those hens.. and claimed they ate ticks.. they were noisy but looked like they did the job

Oh boy - I will tell Jim.We talked about getting chickens for 2-3 years now and it gets swept under the rug.

See if someone on the poultry forum can give you more information.

Just found a stray dog harassing my stray cats. He has a rabies tag with the vet's number on it. As soon as they open I'm going to call and get him back home. Good thing my neighbor has a fenced in yard and he isn't home!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

LOL

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Well the vets didn't come up with a match for the tag# and the dog and Animal Control is closed until Monday. (I am shocked by that!) I borrowed a leash and took the dog for a walk but he didn't go home. All I can do is put an ad in Craigs List and hope that I can manage not to have my elderly neighbor in his yard with the dog. Sometimes I hate being responsible!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

So the neighbor agreed to wait on mowing the lawn until Monday. Dog is enjoying tearing up cardboard boxes in the yard (I tried to make him a bed) and romping in the plantings. I will call Animal Control first thing on Monday if the owner doesn't answer my CraigsList ad. Please cross your fingers for me that the owner sees the add and gets his dog back! Here is a picture of the new garden roto rooter.

you have a good heart my girl

Thomaston, CT

Oh, poor thing....he may have been dropped off by someone in another town....lots of abandoned animals....heartbreaking! Weeze, that's a great photo of Bugs.....he's very handsome. Sherri, guinea hens do eat ticks, but they are very noisy....sound like rusty gates.....our friend had them on the farm....but only for a year!

Sorry people I have just had it with TICKS this year. I am going to hire Brad Paisley to come in.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I have no idea what that means Sherrie

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Yankee, keeping my fingers crossed that Roto is an escapee and not abandoned. He looks healthy and cared for.

Bugsy caught his first chippie this morning. I felt bad because I inadvertently scared the chippie right into Bugsy's path. The chippie was unharmed, and after about 10 minutes under the couch, he made a beeline out the back door. Quite a tale he'll have to tell his buddies.

Who's Brad?

A framous song - What I would do and Hire him !!!

'Cause I'd like to see you out in the moonlight
I'd like to kiss you way back in the sticks
I'd like to walk you through a field of wildflowers
And I'd like to check you for ticks.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

LOL !
