RU invitation

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Hi all. Last week I polled the people who came to our RU 2 years ago in September after all the daylilies and other gardens had stopped blooming to see if they would have any interest in returning during bloom time on Saturday, July 16th since we felt bad that nothing was in bloom when people came before. There was enough interest, so Hank and I are inviting anyone who cares to come! We are located in SW New Hampshire, and I'll give more specific directions to anyone who is interested. We'd love to share our farm with old friends again and new ones as well!!

AMENDMENT TO LIST THOSE PLANNING TO COME SO FAR:

Donniebrook (Louise) & Hank
Pixie62560 (Celeste) & Brian
Onewish1 (Allison)
Robindog (Marilyn)
Wha (Bill) and maybe Cindy
JWLW (John and Liza)
Nutsfordaylily (Karen) and Karen's Dad
Boojum (Kathy) and Dan
Frank65 (Frank) and DW (Bonnie)
A Yankee Cat (Memory)
Schickenlady (Sherrie) and Jim?
FlowaJen (Jen), her DSIL (Karen) and DD Maddison

can't wait!!!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Louise, I might just have to make the trip up there.

Karen

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I really do want to come BUT I just got an invite to my nephew's wedding in FL June 11th, hubby doesn't want to go but I want to go since it's my 2nd to last nephew to get married, the last one is getting married in Oct.....anyhoo, if I drive down to FL, there is probably no way I can do another trip, but, of course, NH is closer!!! What a dilemma! I'll have to play it by ear

New Boston, NH

Hard for me to made plans so far down the road but would love to come and gas about gardening, will make every effort.

That's GREAT, you guys! We are both looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Jen - that really is a dilemma! I so want you to come, but I understand what a tough spot you 're in.

I'm down at my son's right now ( with reliable Internet for a change). With all the rain at the farm this week, it's VERY hard to get onto DG for very long. Fear not if I evaporate into the rainy skies... I'll be back with more details when the sun comes out or we go into town. Lol

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

Louise I will be there - hopefully with the better half.

Thomaston, CT

I'll be there, Louise....have to stop Bill from raiding the rocks!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

what?! so far i've brought a rock home (or 2) each ru

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

That's terrific, Marilyn and Bill! There are stones a-plenty here. Do you guys recall the tall cairn of stones that Hank "built" in the front yard near the road? Since we've been back, we've had someone coming in the night to knock it over. The first night, the tire tracks pulled up to the yard there; he (??) got out and knocked the whole thing down and drove off. Hank rebuilt it and he came back in the night again, but only knocked off the top half, probably because he's a wimp and the bottom half is mega-heavy. Hank decided not to play the game with him, so he did not rebuild it. There have been numerous break-ins on the road since we left and since we've been back, mostly stealing copper pipe. We have decided we don't want to encourage any mischief here, so we'll let him think he won the game. lol

Here's a shot of the cairn taken last summer when the son of one of our friends was posing before they left.

Looking forward to the gathering! It's a bit early to put up FOOD and PLANTS threads just yet, but I'll post links to those in a couple weeks.

Does anyone want any tall Ostrich Ferns, lily of the valley, heliopsis, pachysandra, evening primrose or hemlock tree seedlings? I always have plenty of those we can pot up, but will also take a look at other things I might have to share once the rain stops long enough.

just kids louise - i would try and catch them

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

That's what we think too, Bill. Too much retaliation around here if you get the kids in trouble. So far, no big deal, so we'll let it ride for a bit for now. I checked to see if Home Depot carried security cameras we could put up where our corner spotlight is, but they don't have them, and I'm not looking to spend good money that could go into plants. lol

Thomaston, CT

I will loan you Robs! Many break-ins here in town, some taking taking copper pipes, while the house was vacant. However, last report was from a few days ago....4am, man saw someone breaking into neighbor's house while they were sleeping...called the cops...did they catch him? Nope....somehow he got away!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

I'm amazed we didn't hear anyone drive up. We had our windows open a bit and didn't hear a thing even when we were expecting it. Tire tracks on the dirt road show evidence that they weren't just on foot. I guess we're just sleeping better with the cool nights than we were in the Florida Furnace. lol

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I picked a camera from walmart Louise.. and I bought an adapter online to hook it to the computer.. but we resorted to using a burnable dvd now to record .. the computer was not very good detail but better with the dvd player now.. after my window either broke or was broken in the driveway I have been swapping dvd-rw every night.. just in case it was kids trying to get into my car

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Do you recall how much the camera and adapter were, Allison? I was thinking they would be useful when we are away in the winter, but not very practical if you need to leave a computer on here or retrieve film, so that's likely not a good idea for our situation. I know someone who spent $60K on a security camera system. Nuts, in my opinion. Nothing I own could justify doing half of that!!!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Louise, that's awful that someone would do that! I would have put out boards with nails sticking up to puncture the tires. Only problem with that is you could get mega retaliation from whoever it is. Sad, really, that some people have to be that way.

You know, when I lived in Fallon, NV we used to have trouble with kids (probably) smashing the mailboxes up and down the street. Sometimes they left them there, sometimes the stole them. One person on our road finally had a welded steel mailbox put up that was indestructible.

Those people who spend $60K on a security camera system probably have lots of money and lots of valuable stuff they don't want stolen.

I would love some ostrich ferns, Louise. I love ferns of any kind.

Karen

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

You betcha, Karen! We'll start potting up some.for you and others as well. I may have some other ferns for you as well.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks!

http://youtu.be/gaWBnymXh_I

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Someday i will make it, but drats, not this time either. However, I will be at a DG get-together in Washington state on July 9. since we will be in Oregon then and will start our trip back home by attending this get-together. My dad's cousin lives in the same town. Looking forward to seeing Mt. Rainier from PNWmountaingirl's home.
I am leaving this Tuesday - heading for Texas. Sorry, Louise, don't want to hijack your thread. But, I surely will miss being in NH.

Thomaston, CT

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

maybe I can convince Michele to sleep on the ride.. LOL.. don't see what the big deal is .. if I am doing the driving anyway

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Memory, you could ride with me if nothing else works out. Just say the word.
