DAILY BIRD PICS VOL. 398

Linthicum Heights, MD(Zone 7a)

Onward to a new thread ..... we're starting to see lots of fine photos as Spring is finally arriving, at least here in the mid-Atlantic states. In case you wish to visit previous threads, here is the link to the most recent one: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1176649/

I’ll start off with the 'Common Yellowthroat' which is one of my favorite birds. I find it mostly near a marsh or wetlands and it nests close to, or on the ground. Locally, it has sometimes been called the Maryland Yellow-throat. In fact, the name of the Maryland Ornithological Society’s newsletter is called the Yellowthroat.

Here is one verse taken from a poem entitled "Maryland Yellow-throat" by Henry Van Dyke - 1895 - which 116 years earlier so vividly depicts my sentiment today when I am surrounded by this little magical bird.

An incantation so serene,
So innocent, befits the scene:
There's magic in that small bird's note--
See, there he flits--the Yellow-throat;
A living sunbeam, tipped with wings,
A spark of light that shines and sings.

They are often difficult to photograph since they tend to mostly stay among the weeds and low to the ground.

And, here are a few photos of the 'Eastern Bluebird'.

Another one of my favorite birds - the Yellow-breasted Chat. I positioned myself within acceptable distance to a white Dogwood tree and patiently waited for a bird of any kind to sit among the flowers. I finally was rewarded with this "Chat".

And then along came an 'Orchard Oriole'.

Sitting close by, but not silently, was the 'Gray Catbird'.

And, lastly here is a photo of what I call, the "Mad-eyed Vireo" instead of the White-eyed Vireo.

Sorry for posting so many photos at one time. I may be missing in action for a spell while my DW gets a new knee ....... I won't have anyone to carry my 500mm lens and tripod !

Wow Linth, you have been busy. Wonderful pictures. However, my very favorite is the "mad-eyed Vireo". Sorry your DW has to undergo that knee replacement. Wish her well for me.

while DW is getting a new knee. That "Mad-eyed Vireo" is so suited for this post. LOL Linth. You're the best. And I'm sure the Misus agreed. Best of lucks with her surgical outcome, and a speedy recovery so she can resume her task with your birding adventure. Thank you for the new thread, and all those lovely birds that I don't get to see down South.

Linth, Linth, Linth. You crack me up. Brilliant start, by the way. I really want to see a Common Yellowthroat.

Burn, is that some greening leaves I see in the background?

Hugger, don't you love how birds will perch on anything, like that tulip?

I had a young male Baltimore Oriole stop by for some jelly.

I put out some Orange Marmalade for the Orioles. They like it, but unfortunately so do the Steller's Jays.
