Poppies only bloom once, then they produce the seed pod on top. Probably like all other plants, let it dry on the plant before you pick it?
She's about to...60... Spring is here!
Think I need a bottle before work, during work, and on the lovely construction drive home from work....rofl.
Once home everything is better, I can sit in the garden.....
I don't know the planets have not been in the correct alignment or something for 2 weeks now....this place has been a zooooo!
And I have to work 5 days this week...rofl, for the last two weeks I have taken Fridays off....
Seems better today.....knock on wood.
Where do you work?
thank s LK But I think i just twisted it . got to share this with you all STARTED MY SDB ALBUM

Susie, those are so pretty. How long have you been growing them?
I don't remember what thread I posted on that something had eaten off one of my Hosta's at ground level. The leaves were still there, just laying on the ground. I thought it was wilted but when I went to stand them up, they came up in my hand. Was suggested maybe slugs so I went to put sandpaper around them this evening. On the ground around a couple of them I saw quite a few roly poly's ... a.k.a. sow bugs. Would they be eating on them? What can I do about them?
Thanks for any information I can get.
From what I just read on google, they only eat dead plant matter. If it is slugs or snails, I heard crushed egg shells work too! You can also take a lid to a mayo jar, fill it with beer. It will attract the snails, and they will drown. Don't use salt, that will kill the plants.
sluggo in the pot or plant are really helps me with snails. safe, too.
those pink flowers up there are pink evening showy primrose, and if you got plants from me, you prolly got at lease one of them some way or some how, they seem to end up in every pot or plant area I have. the seed pods look like long petunia pods.
pretty, but invasive, their roots travel far.. juat like the obedient plants I have sent out. seems like one minute piece of root can produce a whole plant in a year. ugh.
Boy Crit you have me stumped on the hosta's. I have probably 30 different hostas and never have had that happen. I have had one type that attract slugs like a crazy, but they just end up with holes, never had the leave taken completely off except when eaten by deer.......Might post on the hosta forum, you have my curiosity up now....hummmmm. Almost sounds like a cut worm or something like that.
Susie I have a few little dwarfs, what I think is funny about mine is they spread much faster than the tall iris. Those little guys grow like crazy.
Down in the 40's for about 5 days at night, bringing in a bunch of the tropicals I have purchased. Glad I didn't empty out the solar room and the garden room. I got the most beautiful hanging fuchia at the farmers market. I don't have great luck with them anyway let alone hang around outside in the cold.
Oh I think I got that lipstick plant in a swap......dang wish I was home to see.......oh I will go to that swap forum and look. That is really pretty.
Don't get me wrong guys, I love my DGD to death, BUT I am going to a pre-school graduation and I guess I am really old because I think this is the dumbiest thing I have ever heard of. My friends were telling me that not only are there pre-school graduations but kindergarten graduation, then middle school graduation, heck by the time you get to high school and college it won't be a big deal at all.....I even got a picture of her in a white cap and gown, which will show you how old I am, I hate it when they dress little girls up like women, it just kind of freaks me out.....she is so precious and cute but I hate that picture.....
Ok so now I guess I am off my tantrum....LOL
The odd thing about the hosta is they only got one. They didn't bother any of the others or any other plants. Didn't eat the leaves, just cut them off at the ground and left them lay.
I've heard about the beer thing. May try that too. Haven't seen any slugs around here. I use to see them at the other house when I would move a pot or something.
LOL Happ you sound just like me. It's fine to recognize children's achievements, but pre school?? come on!!!
I agree with you totally happ. I think there are way too many 'graduations' that the really 'big' ones don't seem like such a big deal. They didn't have all that when I was growing up.
They say the pendulum swings from one side to the other and we have surely swung the other direction. Seems to me it is away to part money from the parents. My very best friend since 5th grade her daughter graduated from high school several years back and I was sitting with the daughter and said "Your Mom is so proud of you". The daughters reply was "When isn't she proud of me?" I was taken back by that statement and my first reaction was what a bratt, but I thought about that statement several times in the past years and it dawned on me that she was soooooooooo praised for everything from the smallest to the biggest, that it just didn't mean anything any more......
Oh well like I said I am the GMom and I am from a different generation....I can see it in the "kids" we hire at work, we even had a parent call about her 22 year old son who she thought deserved a bigger raise...rofl.
LK that looks like a honeysuckle to me. Get it on a trellis in the sun and it will probably bloom. It smells divine. Ours here used to bloom in the summer, but now it is so shaded it just grows and runs everywhere.
I concur. :-)
Oh I hope you sent me a start of your Pink Showy Primrose in the mix of greens, Debra. I put the whole shebang in a big pot to divide later and am pretty sure there are Bee Balms and what I think are either Daisies or Coneflowers in the mix. The only Primrose I have is a Yellow one happ ID'd for me last year. Starts of it came from my girlfriend down the road and just love it. When I went to visit her today to pick up fresh eggs, hers were already blooming. Mine haven't yet but are loaded with buds. She'd been ripping out Beefsteak Perillo...lol That's one you told me about last year, and put the sprigs she gave me in the hanging baskets.
The honeysuckle vines here are blooming like crazy and smell so sweet. Anybody else remember pulling the blooms apart and sucking the juice when you were a kid?
What a gloomy overcast day heavy laden with humidity, and T-storms are moving in tonight...again. We'll be wishing for downpours like we're had the past few days in August.
My first Caladium leaf finished unfurling today and is Kathleen planted next to Tri-Color Sedum.

I remember doing that with the honeysuckle Fruity. There is a plant growing on the fence over in the horse pasture. I am going to grab some of the runners and bring over here. I had one at the other house, the starts came from my mom's, that was huge. The starts don't seem to be doing well here, though.
all my loniceras ( honey suckles) are in full bloom, gold, yellow ( john Clayton) Gold flame ( pink, gold and yellow) white, japonica and it is loverly. I hope you love it Linda, cuz I am starting cuttings of the others. Mine out front grows on the south enc of the front porch with the climbing dark red roses, and smells great. My kids STILL pick them and suck them. LOL
FYI, all my trops have now experienced the 39 to 100 in four day swing, and now they are going thru it again, but we are still doing fine.. KAITLYN HAS BUDS! I just LOVE that brug. No babies graduating here, but I think I would have a cow if I had little ones graduating like that.
the Pink primroses are in FULL bloom, and I noticed that on the edges of the roadside where it gets mowed and in full sun, that they bloom closer and shorter and brighter.. look so pretty up there on the way to Emporia with the thousands of white daiseys.. *sigh*
It took all night to pack up ALL college girls stuff into my little honda, I bet we un packed and repacked three times, ended up leaving the full mirror ( 5 bucks wally world) and two tubs I took up thinking she would need them ( we didn't and didn't have room to bring them back) and a huge bag of plastic hangers.. *sigh*
one of her rooms here is filled with everything, I gave her my spare PINK bedroom...to use for the summer, she fixed herself a margarita and lit a candle, took a bath with bubbles and was singing , and I know she is glad to be home. It has been two weeks now since we lost Duke, she is doing okay....
this is gold flame...
Hey Debra, sounds like college girl is glad to be home with Momma?
Did you send me the plant I posted? Is it a honeysuckle?
Debra, those are so pretty. If you did send me the daisy, I don't think it made it. That is a pretty plant also.

Good morning everyone. Seems like ages since I've been here and it has taken me quite a while to read all your postings. so many pretty blooms and so many of them were farmers nightmares. LOL I was a farmer way back when a hoe was a hoe used to get rid of Morning Glories and Honeysuckle along with Cow Itch Vine (now sold as Trumpet Vine). My Son thinks I have totally lost my mine, (he still lives at the home place) because I now have planted Morning Glories, thanks to Debra and Susan. I think anything that blooms is pretty but the invasive ones, don't want many of.
Susan your Caladium is so pretty. I thought I had one coming up but no such lock...Not a one from all those beauties I had (thank you) last year. I took the bulbs or tubers from the pots last Fall and do not know why they did nothing when I potted them this time. Gosh what a loss.
Still have Iris blooming, and yours Susie make me want more of the Dutch Iris. I have the purple and love them. Loved seeing all yours on Photobucket. Thanks for sharing.
We have been expecting rain for the last 3 days and still nothing so I'm out to water Angel Trumpets.

It is sooo cold here, cloudy, windy, and misty. Just in the 40's!
Iris have popped out all over and they are so pretty, I may go to the iris farm today, probably won't be anyone there since the weather is so bad. Cool for the rest of the week so the iris should stay around.
Ok guys, this pre-school graduation was really something! First the kids put on a program and it was great of course. They really did good and was so funny. They sang in spanish, did sign language to one song, and of course danced to a couple, just cracked you up. Then the graduation started.....each child had a cap, gown, and sash with the date on it, they even got a class ring (don't think they were gold but didn't get to see it to well). Not plastic or paper cap and gown but real material. The children after the first program went behind the stage, got into the caps and gowns, came down the aisle to the normal graducation music, while they were walking down, their names were displayed on two screens with a picture of them of them in their cap and gown, followed by a picture picked by the parents and then a picture of them in a class project. They stood up on the stage until everyone came down the asile, then the principle called their name and handed them a diploma, shook their hands, and would pose for a few seconds for a picture, then go back to the line. After all the dipolmas were handed out they all moved their tassles from one side to other......everyone clapped for them and it was over, except for the million pictures people were taking. My graduations weren't this fancy...rofl. It was amazing for pre-school.....course the kids had no idea what the heck was going on.
Hey Faye, how you doing stranger?
Happ, I am with you for the graduation. That is just wrong for the family to have to pay that much for a pre-school graduation!
Hey good news! I am so proud of my son. He took 2nd place at the truck rodeo in Calif. Now he goes in 2 weeks to the state finals in Stockton, Calif and if he wins there he goes to Nationals in Florida. He has tried so hard every year to win at the rodeo and now he's done it. He even beat out his company's driver trainer.
Sure wish I could will you some of our rain, Faye. We've had rain every day for the past week, and not just a smidgen, but buckets full. Just brought Max my cat in for the night, and it's pouring again. Hubby tilled a new garden for me...how long has that been...two or three weeks ago? And still have plants waiting in the wings to put in the new garden & others I need to divide. Don't worry about the Caladium bulbs you lost. I'm bringing replacements for you when we get together later this month at the RU.
We are needing another shower here, but nothing harsh or fast. A day of good steady rain would be Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr-eat. My little grass seeds are sprouting and could use a little drink to help them set their little feet in the dirt good, without washing them all down the incline.
DH trimmed a bunch of tree limbs in the back yard today. Now my lilies will get a little more sun each day, but I still have some nice shade to relax in. Did some trimming out front, but I wasn't here so he didn't work on any of the limbs I'm wanting trimmed to give my iris and big flower bed a little more doppled sun. He got an electric chainsaw on a 10' extension to do the trimming with. I think he has fun using it, but said about 4:00 he was already getting sore from using it. LOL
Have lots of planting to do tomorrow, and I HAVE to get ther rest of the plants taken outside. Step-son is here this weekend and I want him to help DH do it.
Sleep well everyone and see you tomorrow!
HERE TAKE Some of my RAINY or even the 39* weather I will keep the rain just send the heat :)))
computer going to be down for a few hours today but hope to be back up later today . have a great day
susie
Our nights are dropping into the 40's, and only 64* for highs. Our normal is 50's at night and 70's for days. Really cool for trying to get all my stuff planted! But I would take a nice gentle rain for a day. Put me down for an inch, would ya?
