Oh Faye, those are beautiful! Keep posting please?
Don't work too hard digging those holes!

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

Beautiful Iris Faye. I love them too. I wish they bloomed all summer!!!!

Here is my one lone Iris. It is a pretty peach color. Still several more buds on the stalk. Last year I had one yellow one bloom. Don't know what the deal is!!! Thought maybe it was because they were around trees, but I see them blooming their heads off around other peoples trees. ~sigh~ One bed I know is different colors that I brought from our house in town when we moved. Planted them last spring. No buds on them either.

That 's the problem with Maples. They are a soft wood and split out real easily. I love them, but between the suckers and being so soft, I don't know if they are worth it.

These are the 3 beds I have right now. 2 were here when we bought the house and the one at the top right is the one I put in last spring. Last fall I cleaned out the 2 closest beds and thinned them out hoping for blooms this year. Alas, not any yet but the one.

beautiful gardens, and I hope you are all safe from the storms. Please know I am praying for all of you.
Tommorrow, is the last day I get to have my best friend in my life, Duke. At least he won't be scared in June and July when our tornado season starts. I havn't even felt like going out to check on anything this week, sorry.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Debra, is Duke your dog? So sorry to hear he won't be around anymore.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Duke is her sweetie dog. I am so sorry Debra, it is so sad to lose a member of the family.

Crit, when I divide my iris I never get blooms the next season, if you are lucky maybe one, but it takes til the next season. The beds are beautiful, but that is alot of shade. I have some under trees that need to be moved and some under trees that are fine, I think the problem with mine is one bed the limbs are up high and they get morning sun at least and the leaves of the tree don't leaf out as early as some trees so they get more sun early on, plus those iris are earlier bloomers. The other trees the limbs are more dense so less sun, the leaves pop out earlier so less sun, and slowly those iris have stopped blooming, so I need to move them. I will look and find the suggestions from Comanche Acres iris farm on what and when to fertilize the iris, that really helps mine. I am on DH's computer this morning because mine is still in my brief case so I don't have my second brain handy.

I am on vacation YES! So today is finishing the raised beds (concrete blocks), mowing, and tearing the pond waterfall apart because I have a leak....yuck! So I will be sore tomorrow....rofl. Need to pot up some more stuff for the mg plant sale.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Don't work too hard!

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

Happ I Ordered from BLUEJ Gardens fall of 2009 & I had Blooms on them last summer 2010 same with
the ones I got in trade I Think it dose also depend on How big the RHIZOMES are for some of the smaller ones took some time to bloom :) but also If you fertilize that will help also , I have clay & when i dig up the spot that i want to plant in no matter how much new soil i add to it seems as the clay just takes over.

Crit sorry about Duke , IfN I was closer I sure would be happy to share a kitten with ya I know it don't take the place of a long time companion , but it would be a new start for a new LOVEABLE Companion Hugs Kiddo.

well my brother is bring my trailer back this morning I HOPE so i need to get off here will chat soon .

have a great day & we have SUNSHINE & BLUE SKIES today :)))

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Susie, how is your MIL knee doing? I think you said she had knee surgery?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

good morning, I was offered the day off, in trade with going in earlier next week, so, since the sun is going to shine, me and Duke are going to spend they day enjoying each other. I am going to take him to an area where he can nose around at his own speed, sniff and sniff, and we might go see Paula and her dog Angel, and then go see Charlie and his cat Chief, and swing by Rose's work and see her too, before I take him to the end of the day.

Today, I am not going to say NO to him about anything he wants, and he gets to be as close to me when ever he wants. When I got up this am, he was laying right outside my bedroom door waiting for me, like he always does. I love him so very much...

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

SO glad you two got to meet each other. A friendship is a wonderful thing. Praying for all of your loved ones to heal.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Susie, I had so much fun with our visit!
Dad is doing good, he just does not like the cold weather. He is waiting for it to warm up a bit!
Hollie is doing OK! She has COPD, emphyzema and lots of other medical problems. If anyone gets a cold, she gets it too, but it goes straight to her lungs, and puts her in the hospital. She is home now, and doing better.
My Brother in Washington had temps of only 18 degrees this morning! That is too cold for the end of April!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Brrr! r u kidding? where is the hot choclate?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Jaye asked me to start her red white and blue swap. She will add more to it when she gets her computer going.

Your Irises are beautiful, Faye!

You know what, Debra, Duke lived a long healthy life, thanks to you caring for him. I know you miss him like crazy now and will in days to come, but I bet he's already jumping up and down like a new pup and has made friends with hubby's Black Lab-Chow mix we lost 3 years ago, and my precious Pug I lost last year :)

Yep, I'm back home. Thank you, Neener, for a wonderful week-end and for shuffling me around to so many nurseries & greenhouses. I felt like a kid at Christmas and came home with a boatload of plants I'll be busy planting, hopefully this week. Hubby tilled up a new garden while I was gone and am just waiting for the weed-be-gone killer to do its thing before I can start planting.

IRIS Thai Orange -- I'm sorry you lost yours, Susie, and will send you replacement rhizomes. I took a whiff of it this afternoon and it smelled just like a fresh cut Mango.

Beautiful!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I am so glad you two got together. I sure miss seeing fellow DG'rs, need to see Don ( Tropicman) and Bonnie ( AuntB) before I start going to Arkansas every weekend. It is so fun to see people who like to Garden, which is why I come here. Did you both get your Boses? I sure hope so. I think Faye is the only one I need to send too, just waiting until I see what made it thru winter, I know lost Daydreams, Cream Cycle, Lovie, Autumn Treasure. I think I gave away Jean Pasko, by mistake. I prolly sent away a lot of things I can't remember. I am glad I can remember my name right now LOL.
That Iris is beautiful, mine are budding, one looks to be a great big Yellow one. I can't wait!
Today it was cold and cloudy, so I cooked, and cleaned, Son came over, we went downstairs and he cried in my arms just like he was 5 yrs old ( he is 34) because he misses Duke so much, and the basement he used to live in, smells of Duke.
I told him he has Chief, and to be a good fur Daddy to him.
I am dreading going to get College Girl this weekend, she is mad at me for the Duke thing with out her approval, she threw a dramtic crying fit when I told her he was not doing well and I was taking him to go to sleep forever, last Sunday after Easter Dinner, she hasn't called or texted me since. It is a long hour and 20 minutes when someone is mad at you while driving. *sigh*
I swear I keep hearing his sniffing noise here at night. Joe thinks I am nuts.
We went to see James Taylor last night, he was real good, and one of his songs almost made me cry...
I am okay, really I am, I think..

Debra I'm so sorry. I did get your box on Thursday. I though I dmailed you. Must have meant to and then didn't. Thank you so much for everything. I haven't had a chance to look at the non plant goodies yet, but I'm betting I can use some of them in cards and books. You are too good to me.

Fruit Loop and I had a blast as usual. Lots of plants, lots of wine and good food. A nice break from the realities of life.

Will this rain ever stop here?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to hear you guys got together, and had a great time!
Wow, it is only 49 here this morning, and it feels so good after our 100+ temps the past few weeks! it even rained last night, and the plants are sooo happy!

That's just not fair, Patti. I know how much you've looked forward to May Day :) May 1st was always the day growing up I could finally go barefoot.

I played hookey from digging for swaps and trades today and still have a bunch of perennials waiting in the wings to be planted in the gardens, and they're still looking good -- thanks to Hubby watering them twice for me over the week-end. So what did I accomplish today? It doesn't sound like much, but I was at it all morning weeding, then I tackled a stubborn dwarf evergreen we've had going on three years that did not want to come out of its pot. After lunch, I went to a neighborhood nursery to buy more annuals & bags of potting soil and spent the rest of the afternoon, between cooking and cleaning windows, planting a few hanging baskets.

Gosh darn it, Happ, You don't want to hear that I lost most of the EE's you gave me, and am still scratching my head "why" since they were packed and stored inside. I bought a few generic ones at Lowe's a couple of weeks ago and will plant them either this week of next.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

fruity, I bet those EE's will pop up and surprise you this summer.. I thought I had lost mine too, but then they majically appeared when it got warm, everywhere .. ( that is what happens when you dump out old pots of what you think is nothing alive in it so use it to fill an area in the flower bed action)

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Well Ladies I have a whole bed of irises and only 5 are blooming. I think they need to go to someone elses house to live now. Where there is more sun and less acidic soil. We have a "bloom or doom" policy here because of a lack of sunny space. I could use that area for so much more that would actually grow. Question is, if I were to dig them all out now, would they be viable for someone else to plant? Or do I have to wait until the end of summer? Someone that knows irises, let me know so I can make a decision about this.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

rvnsbrk, the iris farm by me sells a few iris in the spring which is when I buy most of mine. They do great in fact I think they do better here because they have a good root system and don't get heaved out of the ground during the winter thaw and freeze, so if you decide to dig them now is fine.

FOTV, I probably have replacement ee's...lol. But like Debra said just water for awhile longer you may be surprised what starts to sprout. If they go dormant it takes a while to wake them back to reality. They are slow to start but then look out. Think this summer I will need to repot all the tropicals.....holey moley what a job that is going to be. I am going to need a ton of potting soil to say the least.

Hard frost last night, hope that is the last of it.

Had a guy retire yesterday from work......so many new faces all over the place. Funny to watch and think of the changes that have taken place since I started here many moons ago.....can't wait until I can join the ranks of retired people.

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Thanks Happ for the info on the irises. I may dig 'em then sooner rather than later. I could use that space for some more knockout roses and other things.

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

I would love to have some of them if you decide to dig. ^_^

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

I'll keep you in mind Patti.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

It sounds like I'm just too anxious with the EE's, happ and Debra, and will heed your advice. Our low tomorrow night is supposed to be 41 and am so glad I haven't schlepped too many houseplants outside, not that I have a lot left after so many croaked during the Winter. The roller coaster ride last year bringing them outside and back in again was crazy and promised myself not to go through that again this year. Patience is a virtue, just with I had more of it...lol

How about another pretty bloom from today? My 6 or 7 clumps of Iris are starting to grow together but think this is "Velvet and Cream" Maxine shared with me a couple of years ago.
