Hmm, I've never had a green bean casserole. Am I missing something? We love everything beans.

A Hungarian walnut cake sounds very exotic. Maybe you could bring copies of the recipe to share? I bet some (Sally) would love to have that.

You know me so well . LOL

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

You're an open book, Sally. That's a good thing. We could use more open books these days. Can't wait to see you. You're around the corner though it's been almost a year.

Does anyone have labels we can use for name tags? Otherwise we can wear cardboard signs around our necks or I can tag everyone with plastic miniblind necklaces like I do the plants. If you're feeling creative maybe you can make the ones printed with the DG design. I've looked but can't find that information. Thanks.

Mike has us covered on the deviled eggs. What's a gathering without those? Phew!

Thanks for helping me out again, Jo.

My pleasure! Jo

Ok, I checked into renting a car, since I donot have one, My DD says she needs her car and I cannot use it that weekend. And to add insult to injury there is not one single place to rent a car in Alexander City, Alabama!! I have never heard of not having a car rental place availeable?? Wierd. Anyway I will definately not be able to come as I will not have a car. I have not seen anyone close to me who I could even car pool with. So I am definately not going to be able to come....sigh. There is always next year though!! Have fun everyone!!

Find the nearest Enterprise and see if they will come pick you up.Should be online .

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

Elfie, we hope you and Goober will still make the trip if you find transportation. I removed your name from the guest list on the last edit because you had previously said you were not able to get here. If you have a friend with transportation you are welcome to include them.
Laurel

The closest Enterprize is about 30 miles away. Not to sure they would come that far. I can call tomarrow and see. Will let you know what they say.

Dahlonega, GA

Elf , we're waiting to hear .

Elaine was our official photographer last year. Darn the neighbor's daughter's bad choice of a wedding date! Hoping there are some camera buffs among us. I'll be too busy and besides if I do photos you'd only be seeing knee caps.

Do I hear a small voice with twenty or so spare computer labels who will provide tags? I've got the Sharpie but no labels. Please?

Hey all. Ok, I cannot get a car,, so I cannot come,, sorry,, huggs to all Will be there next year!!

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

I will be able to bring some labels, so cross that off.

Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

been awol but back now - what else needs to be brought?

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

How 'bout "tater" salad (I'm channeling Sally)? Also, I unearthed two bags of Elaine's secret punch mix from the freezer and know she mixed it with ginger ale. So we could use 1-2 bottles per bag. I'll ask her for the recipe. This way she will be with us in spirit.

I'm making pasta salad, vegetarian chili beans, slaw, grilled and chilled veggies with feta, hummus, sandwiches and hotdogs with fixin's.

Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

"How 'bout "tater" salad" oh wow - I've been going to the gym everyday, working hard to burn off some fat, build some muscle and there is a bank of TVs right in front of the treadmills and you can click your headphones into the gizmo and pick a channel. EVERYday there is a beautiful ad for Duke's Mayo showing this woman making the most mouthwatering potato salad... everyday I try not to watch it. BUT now I can make it with a good conscience.

Put me down for potato salad.

Dahlonega, GA

Ya almost gut it down rite . Purty goot .

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

We're more than set now. Bet Sally is going to be extra happy 'bout Duke's in the tater salad.

I'll tap a note to Elaine and ask her to open the vault and dig out that secret punch recipe.

I made several gallons of home brew masala chai tea with fistfuls of apple mint from the garden yesterday and left it marinating in the fridge at Maypop. Then we ran to Atlanta for errands and a final grocery swoop. Back to Maypop tomorrow. Boy am I ready to relax with you all!

Dahlonega, GA

Be nice if you do sit down with us . Last time , the party was almost over before you gave it up .

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

Sally, Mom said I was the reason they invented Ritalin. I can sit but not for long. Being with everyone; sharing the space, the food, and the garden is relaxing to me. Hosting requires time and attention. I love hosting. Gets my endorphins going to see folks having a good time.

Dahlonega, GA

I know , just remember we have endorphins too, and when you're bouncing around , it just looks like work to me . LOL

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

Elaine has written that a bottle or so might-should do but qualifies that with her limitations as a cook. So whatever ends up in the punch should work.

Dahlonega, GA

Suits me .

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Assuming I can squeeze my car in for a long overdue oil change this week, I'll tote some million dollar bars with me. They are good travelers :-)

It seems so simple to get the oil change, but the last 6 weeks have seen me running from sun-up to sun-down and not a spare minute to catch my breath. But it's gotta be done before I set out cross-country!

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

You better do it, Terry! Swimmer girl can jog to practice and back. I made hummus without cilantro just for you tonight. I remember details. No guilt mind you. Besides, I've never experienced a million dollar bar. Would you deprive me?

Sally, you are not only a sweetie but so easy to please.

Dahlonega, GA

Don't know what a million dollar bar is , but I want one .

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

Yeah, you can even leave off the bar part.

Dahlonega, GA

Laurel , me and you must be getting tired , we're getting silly . Always happens after a long day . Every thing is funny .
Have got to get my small stuff together tomorrow . If I don't finish up the plant gathering by 10:00am , it'll be too hot outside and I'll have to come in for a nap .
I can't wait for all these people to get there , want to meet everyone . Wouldn't it be a treat for Darius to join us ? Making her own cheese fascinates me . I did one time but it was only a half cup finished .
See you Sat

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

Laurel, that hummus sounds good, I like it without cilantro too. Also enything with feta is good. Back home my aunt that lived in Sarajevo kept it in a glass jar with salty water in it, no frigiration. She made some mean Spanakopita, I tried to make once, it is to much work. The walnut pastry recipe I am making is in Hungarian and on metriks, I will try to transelate. Last time I went to visit my sisters in Novi Sad, Serbia she bought me a metriks scale so I just use that.

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

My scale has metrics too so no need to change anything. I have a good number of international cookbooks that use metrics. I am a nurse and used to working in metric weights and measures. BTW, I love spanakopita!

Donna in Douglas, GA(Zone 8b)

Sorry to say we aren't going to make it this time. I've got to deliver a BIG load of plants to a grower, which is a good thing cause I needed to move the inventory. I hope you all have a wonderful time and look forward in seeing all the pictures!

Best regards,
Donna

Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

Donna - we will sure miss you...

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

Donna, I am going to miss you, was hoping to thank you for your help with the travel, and my nice flowers. First bloom on the black and blue, beutiful. But business is business, livelyhood comes first. good luck. Etelka

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

Yes, good luck with your delivery, Donna.

Just a quick check in during a break from getting RU ready. We had rain all evening and night until just a little while ago. Thankfully my time is spared from watering. The garden was quite dry when we got here but everything is now perky. Weather for Saturday is supposed to be partly cloudy with a high in the mid eighties and low in the mid sixties. We usually stay a little cooler because we are in the woods. Speaking of which...

There will be a sign at our front for the DG RU directing you up our gravel drive. The house is set way back on the property and the drive meanders through the woods so don't be thinking you took a wrong turn.

Laurel, can I Dmail you the recipe of the walnut roll, my printer is not hooked up from the mess I had last week. Or I can just sendet trough the forum. It is pretty long and complicated, maybe you will have a second tought. It is in the oven, and I am holding my finger grossed. Very seldom I work with yeat dough, but last time I done it , everybody liked it.Pls let me know. Etelka

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

My cake kind of cracked in the middle, but it is still good. I have been looking on Web, and I found the www.cooks. com have Hungarian nut roll, I would pick the 2nd one, the one that has raisins in the filling.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Sorry to be a spoilsport, but I'm going to have to bow out of this trip...I can't get my car in for an already-overdue oil change, tire rotation and alignment (and probably a brake job) before the weekend, and I wouldn't feel comfortable taking it on the road for a long trip, especially by myself. Y'all have fun and I hope I can wrangle an invite next year!!!

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

I'm sorry too. You don't have to wrangle to come visit. Well we will have the same size mini RU we had last year. We'll miss those who can't make it but that's how we all ended up with a ton of plants. :)

Kiseta, thanks for pointing me to the recipe. About that crack...cakes with cracks always taste best.
