Daily Butterfly Pictures #86

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I finally had some BST cats on my large bronze fennel. I had company for over a week so I didn't take them inside; afraid I would forget to feed them. One had pupated the week before and now left an empty chrysalis. Things are looking up here too.

Nice shots!

That lily looks much like the Monte Negro I have blooming now. Very pretty

I thought I had a Painted Lady....but after looking at the pics on the computer I think it is an American Lady, which is a new one for me!

Hi everyone. Will have to start over learning the name of my butterflies. But your wonderful pictures will help me greatly. Marna here is the picture you asked me to post here. I had a pic of one, where the mud puddle was full of Tiger Swallowtails.

This one was from another mud puddle, Lots more were flying around.

Found this small one on the Rhubarb flowers. Marna mentioned it was probably a tattered White Admiral. It's about the size of a Skipper.

Welcome to the thread Burn! Love you mass puddling pictures for sure! But I still am proud to say I got a pic of the TST on my phlox today.

One more.
It is 100+ here with no rain for weeks and none in site. I am not getting outside much need less to say.
I did rescue a BST today that was laying eggs on the parsley. The wind was fierce again and the heat brutal, it landed in the pond on a lily pad but fell into the water somehow. I was watching so quickly fished it out and put it on a rue plant in the shade. She was still there when I gave up and went inside.

Welcome burn; nice Tiger convention pics. Your's too Shelia.
Russell, the plant you inquired about is an Artemesia I believe, I call it 'ghostweed'.

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

What fabulous TST pics! Thanks for sharing

Welcome Burn! I still can't believe those puddling shots.

Shelia, love the phlox shots. I'm so sad that mine are full of mites for the second year. I'm going to have to move them to a more moist spot I guess. But no big lavender blooms for me this year. boo hoo.

Jack, I think I'm going to sneak to your yard and steal those red rocks!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

From yesterday, Question Mark. I had a second one that was all tattered, and a skittish Red Admiral, but pretty quiet here otherwise.

Be sure to check out the crazy-eyed fly in the upper left.

Nice catch of the butterflies, J, burn, sheila. Ha Mrs. Ed I see it, I did. I did that crazy-eyed fly once I enlarged the pix. I saw a yellow TST this morning, and a Clearwinged hummingbird moth. There were lots and lots of bees on flowering trees.

Divernon, IL(Zone 5b)

That fly looks like it took a hit from a vibrating sonic zap.

hee!

Hey burn!!! Love those puddling shots!

I had either a Question Mark or a Comma the other day...missed getting a photo! 3 of my BST cats died. Not sure what happened. The largest cat purged today and is on a branch right now. This group just didn't seem right from the start so we'll see what happens.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Sorry to hear that Nan-- about the BST cats. Wasps, those dern wasps I tell you. I've so many hostplants and looking forward to see the butterflies, but I'm so dread of those wasps.

I've had many Catalpa's cats. But I think my nesting birds found them before they pupate. I had no idea they could get this big.
