Glad you are ok and just the heat keeping you down.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Sheila, I think your right, I've photographed that moth last year.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Next one to have a few pics needs to start a new thread! "Daily Butterfly Pictures #86" is FULL, well over 250 posts.

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

He's an "inch worm" . ^_^

Saw a luna moth flying when I was out feeding critters a while ago. I was leading a horse and didn't see where he went, but he is around. I just love those things!!! What is a host plant for them? I hope I have something they like to eat!

Kissimmee, FL

Too darn hot to do much today. Managed a few pics this weekend.

Ooooh I haven't seen one of those 'Tuxedo' dressed skipper this year. I'm so glad you've posted that pix. Thank you. It's nearly 100 today here. Too darn hot it was! Crit, I think the Luna caterpillar munch on sweetgum. Have you any in your yard?

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Crit hope you have these trees around.

The caterpillars of the Luna Moth feed on the following host plants:

Betula (Birch)
Alnus (Alder)
Diospyros (Persimmon)
Liquidambar (Sweetgum)
Carya and Annamocarya (Hickory)
Juglans (Walnut)
Rhus (Sumac)

Kissimmee, FL

I will have a few more tomorrow.

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

I don't think I have anything on that list! I have pine, oak, pear, mimosa, redbud, cottonwood ..... lots of trees, but none listed. I also have several of one tree that I'm not sure what it is .... could be a birch maybe. It was near some of the 'unknown', pine, oak, mimosa and cottonwoods. I sure hope it hangs around and has found something it likes!!!! I just love them. I was surprised to see it out in the daytime. Was about 5:00 p.m.

Lovely butterfly garden!!! Maybe it has to do with the weird Spring we had, Marna. Let's hope Summer will bring them in.
There is not much happening here either. I've seen the Tiger Swallowtail in the yard, but it keeps teasing me. It doesn't want to stop for a visit.
I had this little Azure a few days ago.

Hello all this is my first time posting on this forum. I love all the pictures with the butterfly id. Here's a BST from last summer on my hibiscus.

I quickly learned that my parsley would soon disappear. Littlle did I know that this was a food source for the cats.

I found this TST on the asters last week. I had to look this one up, I've never seen this one in the garden before.

This is another butterfly from last summer, ID anyone?

Welcome CEM. That last one looks to be an American Lady.

I have to chuckle at your big fat Black Swallowtail cats on your skimpy parsley remains! Check the dill too! I plant extra of both. And I have to be sure to check them over well before harvesting for eating!

Hard to believe that last year at this time I had sooooo many Red Admirals. sigh.

Duluth, GA(Zone 7b)

Thanks for the ID Mrs_Ed. I hope I didn't eat any eggs last year. Haven't seen any BST's yet this year, hope they show up.

Must be a tasty lily!

Cem, I work from home and try to keep a good eye out on the garden. Sometimes I DO see butterflies ovipositing, but often I'll find cats and never have seen a black swallowtail at all. So they are sneaky! (ha). Some people net some of their dill/parsley in an effort to reserve them for harvest. I just try to be really thorough in my inspection.

Wow! Very impressive bf garden pics Ms Ed!! I haven't gotten enough sun on mine to do that well, then when the sun hits it roasts everything! But like you I don't have the butterflies I had here in the past years. I am blaming the harsh winter and the wildfires west and south of us. I do have a lot of BST now, 20 inside and about as many that I left to nature. Hopeful that the fall will result in more.

Nice to see some of you posting for the first time on this forum. Welcome all you pics.
Cem.... that first one on TX Star Hibiscus looks like a Pipevine ST to me. Nice shot of the TST and Am Lady also.
Bob.... Love the variety of bfs! Are those all current pics, if so I am inspired. Nice photos, especially the Am lady on Mistflower.

Sure wish someone would start a new thread...over 300 post here now.

Severna Park, MD(Zone 7a)

Sheila_FW, all of these shots are from 2011. Mistflower is just now producing bloom buds...it is a fall flower here in Maryland. I was selecting shots to post in alphabetical order. I will attach a couple from this year. This first is a Zabulon Skipper.

Time to consider move to MD! LOL! Kidding of course.

Bob, very nice. I'm so glad you're having so many butterflies. Thank you for sharing with us. I missed all those beauties, I don't see many of them here just yet.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Wow Indeed Bob! Nice going.

Yes, too wet here for decent butterfly populations this year. PIty, since the winter had set us up for a potential good year. The coneflowers are just starting to bloom and some of the zinnias from seed are forming buds. Supposed to dry out a bit next week, which is promising.
