Ugh, pics aren't posting...I'll finish later
Garden Projects 2011 #3
Bookreader, it was Benjamin Moore paint, & it was fine until this winter.....I bought the paint locally, so I will check the guarantee! Jen, cute photos!
looks like you are off to a great start Jen
I love rock borders. If you need more rocks just let me know. I was prepping for my new roses and dug up about 20 nice sized ones.
very busy today moving dirt and rocks for a new bed for shade jm's - skipped lunch to get as much as i could done - pictures tomorrow - loving the new bed!
Cool!
I out in another trellis for the new honeysuckle.
Busy here too. Got all the plants into the new area and put down 58 bags of mulch. Should be done tomorrow.
that is a lot of mulch - bags - why not have it delivered?
another big day tomorrow here too - stopped today when my left had started to cramp up at 4 - knew it would happen even though i downed lots of fluid - basically none stop today.
Yes - has to be cheaper by the yard.
it is cheaper by the yard... and not bagged
I would have, but a certain someone talked me out of it. I have mixed feelings about it though, the bags are a bit easier to handle. Bulk is a lot of shoveling.
you need a Randy
So do I!!
Weeze & Victor you should price out and check if there is a company to blow mulch into your beds.. was worth the price for the 2 hours it took them to do my place
Did you have to go in afterward and move it around?
Mind me asking what they charged, priced by the square foot? There is no way I'm doing all the mulching next year...one way or another someone is getting hired.
That's why you need groundcovers and tightly planted beds.
not even a little Victor.. an even 3 inches all over.. but did have to hose off the plants after.. every thing was very dusty... they even took good care of the plants that were growing and didn't bury anything
I don't really know Weeze... a friend of mine did it as a favor to me.. he works for the company and they were in the area doing another job.. and I got the left over in the truck.. I didn't have a say when they were coming.. they just showed up and did it.. I did not complain at all
here is the company page

I've started groundcovers in the other beds. Love it!
Allison.....I would LOVE to just hose off the plants!!!
I see those guys not wearing dust masks in the photos! Duh.
Sounds like you guys have been busy today. Jen, I like your fairy garden. Very cute!
Would love to have someone come and spray mulch in my beds. So easy! Allison, I wish I had a friend who worked for a company like that.
I got a little bit done, but got a late start and had to quite just after to 2 to go to work from 3-7. I think I got just over 2 hours work in. Did some burning. Today was our last day. I also worked on redoing a bed that had been done about 3-4 years ago but needed doing again. Moved a 'Frans Schubert' garden phlox there and planted a 'Candy Cane' phlox in the place where 'Frans Schubert' was, as that's my pink garden. The bed I'm redoing had some Joe-Pye Weed in it that was tangled up with the roots of 2 daylily clumps. What a mess that was! Took me awhile to get it all untangled. I potted up the JPW and also a couple divisions from the FS phlox. That was my day. Tomorrow I plan to get an earlier start. I have a lot of daylilies to dig for orders that need shipping.
Karen
Sounds like everyone had a productive day....I put in the cold crops...lettuce, beets, carrots, & Swiss chard.....my peas are up about 2", & I'm harvesting asparagus....
nice Jen.. may critters big and small stay out of there!!!!.. bet the kids love it!!!
I sure hope so, yep kids love it
Cute Jen!
DW and I are going cheap this year and using shredded leaves for mulch. May look a little tacky but it works.
Pixie, We went there yesterday checking out what's growing. Too windy outside when we were there so spent most of the time in the GHs. Probably get serious about the 15th for buying.
Nice buy on the almond. We've got one somewhere around here. Gift from MIL a couple of years ago. We've got several plants from her over the years but she's given up gardening pretty much.

Pixie, next year take another friend and fill three.
I think I saw that new petunia at the Tower Hill Primula show yesterday. A few vendors had a couple of other things to sell, but I didn't buy it and should have. I bought plenty of primula, some real gems for my new Japanese Maple beds. I was hoping to plant today, but my Davidsan order is still not here. We get very slow mail and UPS service to the Island, so I expect it will come tomorrow.. I have a big batch of hosta to plant as well as getting my dug cannas out of the crawl space and potted up. Plenty to do.
I stopped at Weston's Nurseries in Hopkinton yesterday, and bought nothing....surprise, surprise. Long lines, and I actually only saw one fruiting cherry tree that I wanted, but I know I can pick it up at a smaller nursery for cheaper and no lines. But did love seeing their big permanent trees and shrubs in bloom. Patti
Jen, love the fairy town pics!
Frank, shredded leaves are good for mulch. Yes, doesn't look as good as the shredded bark mulch, but it does keep the weeds down, and worms love it. The more the merrier as far as the worms go.
Oh, Celeste, I could have given you one of those pink flowering almonds. Would have been a little smaller, but wouldn't have cost you as much. Man, I sure don't charge that much for mine! I get about $5 for them. Love the peppermint colored flower. Is it a geranium?
Gorgeous magnolia, Patti!
BTW, I saw a gorgeous saucer magnolia in Kingston the other day and took a few pics. It was the largest one I've ever seen. The spread was enormous, and the branches touched the ground, even when not in bloom.
