Garden Projects 2011 #3

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Thanks, Onewish1 and Celeste. Today is lily bulb planting day and veggie bed, if I can drag myself out of bed. Tried to stay up and cheer on the Sox, but fell asleep in the 12th and then they lost. Was hoping to get back to 500.

Here was the big project last year and as it is now. Pleased as the old plantings survived and with the new bulbs planted in the fall, it has perked right back up. Now to see which Iris come back, though we moved a bunch of them before digging it all up. The two big high bush blueberries that we planted in 1983 are all budded out in their new locations out in the yard. Yippee. Patti

Gorgeous!!!!! Love the first combo. Orange is a fave.

Thomaston, CT

I wouldn't think to buy orange tulips, but I love them paired with the red & purple ones! And Patti, airedale translates to airhead soooo easily!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Looking great, Patti! You sure are getting lots of work done. I got off a little early today and did a few things outside, though very little. Moved some potted plants, edged a little of one bed, did a bit of weeding and planted a couple of things that I had purchased last year, a Trillium cuneatum and some kind of Dicentra, I think dutchman's britches.

Got into the PI again. Avoided touching myself with my gloves once I discovered that, and then washed up really good with cold water and dish soap, so I'm hoping I got rid of any oil I might have picked up. My rash from the last time, almost 2 wks ago, is almost cleared up. Finally got some Ivy Dry yesterday, and that has really helped. I swear by that stuff.

Speaking of 'terms of endearment' for DH's, my friend Karen jokingly refers to her hubby as Mr. Victory Garden. A gardener he is not, and he always seems to mess up things for her. He is clueless, though is is just trying to help.

I saw a bunch of dwarf bearded iris blooming today. Will take pics Saturday.

I think Victor say to pour alcohol on any PI contact points... I think

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Tecnu, if you have it. If not, alcohol or plain water is supposed to bind to the oil. I have a few spots myself now.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

The Ivy Dry consists of Benzyl Alcohol, Zinc Acetate, Camphor and Menthol.

Patti, btw, I have raised my price on shipping for my daylilies. Am now relisting them on the Lily Auction, as no one has bought anything for almost a month now. Will see if I do any better over there.

I love my Tecnu...thanks again Victor. I keep getting more PI, but the Tecnu has prevented me from having to go to the hospital this spring by careful scrubbing and using cold water every day.

Planted a big mess of lilies and the last of the new Primula and weeded a whole bunch and deadheaded a zillion bulbs. More dwarf Iris out today here too. I thought the my helpers were coming today, but I got my days wrong. Didn't do the veggie bed, but looked at it....sort of counts.

Off to Boston early Sat and staying on Sunday to work at the pottery show. So I won't have to spread much mulch. Lucky me. I have my big medical check ups and tests on Monday so I can't help that day either. Slightly nervous, but it will be what it is and having my garden and pottery keeps me in a good spot, plus all you guys to cheer me on. Thanks. Patti

Here is some of my pottery at the show.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Thanks all for the cheering on and well wishes as well as the compliments.

Wha, I won't, but keep getting better and changing my mind which piece to give you. Sorry I haven't gotten other to get my bird house. I will.

Mulch guys are here working away. DH and I got the trellis up in the veggie bed and he is out finishing up the weed barrier in the pathways. I got the rest of my lily bulbs planted and moved a bunch of dirt to try to fix the slope on the side of the new Japanese bed which didn't look right. Better but I will need to move a bunch more dirt next week, always next week! Now feeling overly sore, so done for the day. Patti

I planted clems, DLs, & lilies....this after watching the 3 and 4 year old Gkids for hours....I'm beat!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Your pottery looks great, Patti! Good luck at the show and the doc's.

Patti and Marilyn, sounds like you two have been busy. I will be busy this weekend. Maybe not so much tomorrow, depending on how much rain we get, but certainly on Sunday and Monday.

I am going to go over to Tower Hill in Boylston, MA for the Narcissus show which opens at 1 o'clock tomorrow. I will go over earlier as I want to go to their Library as I am working on some garden articles for the Newspaper and need to do some research, then to Boston to help at the pottery show. Sunday I have to work the show for most of the day. Twisting arms to buy pottery pieces and wrapping them up. It will be interesting to see if I have sold much this week. Hope so, as that means more money for more plants.

Hope I can get to Mason Hollow soon. The recent visitors to our garden who are Narcissus experts will all be at the Tower HIll show as they are the judges, so I hope to express my sincere NEED for a green Narcissus to Mr Spotts if I just happen to see him. Wish they could have come to our garden on this coming Sunday as the whole garden will be mulched and looking divine or close to it by then. The grass needs mowing. I hope the rain holds off until the evening. Patti

Have fun at Tower Hill. I love that place. I was there for their narcissus show a couple years ago. They had the primula show at the same time that year. Looks like they separated the two this year. Seems a bit late for the narcissus show. Aren't they going by now? I guess some are still looking good.

Have fun, Patti!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

busy weekend patti - i will be building a large garden bed:)

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Karen, Next year the primula and Narcissus show will be back together again as it was in the past which is nice. I think they had the Narcissus show the week after the Nantucket show so as to not conflict, but don't know about next years date. It is kind of late for many Narcissus but here on cooler Nantucket, I will have Narcissus into early June. Many show people know how to save them and extend the bloom time, but I don't show. I only go to see examples of ones that I don't have and many of those are some of those really pricey ones that I won't ever have so I can only enjoy them at a show. Patti

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Wha, maybe I should just drive by and help you dig. Patti

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i will be digging tomorrow - sunday my - hard to say this - grand daughter's christening..

Patti, maybe they should have the Tower Hill show first and the Nantucket show afterwards, seeing as you have a bit later season there. Have fun!

I was thrilled to become a Nana....and Doug was over- the- moon happy....those kids kept him going for 3 more years! See, Bill? Lots of perks with becoming a Grandpa! Hope you sold many pieces, Patti.....they're worth buying!
