Random thoughts

Victor so far so good. I have to ammend my methods. If your a farmer or a big veggie grower you would know that you have to Fertilize.

I am not going to fertilize all that sawdust. I will have to hand feed. To buy miriclegrow and do that whole garden that I have would be a bazillion bucks. Not happening here. I will do it my way.

BUT - as of right now as I type the veggie garden is- gonna guess 88 % weed free. Its a lot less work on the weeding but a bit more on the fertilizing end which is nothing.

Good to hear.

Keep us posted, Sherrie.....

My granddaughters were sitting in my kitchen having lunch, but this time HayHay noticed my clock...she asked me what kind of numbers were on it (Roman numerals). Then she wanted to know who the Romans were....when they lived, etc. The 4 year old thought it was during the time of the dinosaurs....the 6 yr. old rolled her eyes & explained no people were around with the dinosaurs....don't know how they got so smart!

Sherrie I only use sawdust on my blueberries and strawberries. My veggie garden I mulch with mowed grass which I have plenty of. I also fertilize with miracle gro. I use alot of manure and sea compost in the spring before I plant out anyway. I"ve seen sawdust used on asparagus beds too but I'd rather use manure and lime it occasionally.

My granddaughter, who is 19 now, was about five years old and couldn't figure out how to tell the time on a regular clock. All they had in the house were digital ones. I know of kids who don't know how to use a dial phone!

my kids freak when they visit my mom. They have a rotory phone still.

Hi everyone! This is sorta kinda random...does anyone else find that they have a certain color repeating, almost consistently, in their garden(s). Almost as if to say, "I'm the dominant color, PLLLLLLLLLLLL."

Currently, maroon (dark leaves) and yellow are my go two colors. It's not even a totally conscience decision, just sort of happens.

Although the DL's I have, almost all are eyed varieties...almost every single one. lol

Hosta, I like at weird leaf shapes...Wolverine, Ginsu Knife, Praying Hands, Bridegroom...

Victor, there is a story behind the hosta named, 'Bridegroom,' I'm sure you'd get a kick out of it.

Ducking out for now.

Hey, we paid for our dial phone when we had to. It's the one on the kitchen wall out of the way of stuff on counters.

My parents had a rotary phone while hubby and I were dating and we were taking about it as he was calling friends of ours....their machine had recorded our whole conversation, they thought it was the funniest thing

I def find that Thom, I was looking around the other day and noticed all the flowers blooming now are pretty much orange

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hey Thom!

Thomaston, CT

Hi Thom.....exotic looking hostas are fun! Unfortunately, the dominant color in my flower beds is green.......not much blooming.....I'm hoping the garden lecture I signed up for will help me & the beds.....

South Hamilton, MA

Green is fine if it isn't 'weed green'.

Thomaston, CT

Well, yeah, much of it is weed green....and violets green.

South Hamilton, MA

Our violets have gone past. they were fugitives which moved with us 40 years ago during our move from CT. Plenty of weeds of our own.

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

After the demolition last year...the excavator and bobcat moved almost a foot of soil from the one bed, I have weed seeds and perennial seeds that have germinated and are coming up everywhere! Ladybells...oye...Foxgloves...oye...Bleeding Hearts...everywhere...AND...Hellebore...I never knew Hellebore even set seed...I have babies galore...I also have about 10-20 different types of hosta coming up, most are just green, blue, or somewhere in between...but oye. The hellebore are what get me the most...I will try to salvage them.

The rest will be meeting Dr Roundup :-)

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

even the hosta? I like to pot up those baby hosta and see what they become

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

I may keep the hosta babies, I've done that in the past, 99% of the time they look like the old faithful green and blue hosta that everyone seems to have. Every once in awhile I get a streaker, or variegated plant, or something with a unique leaf shape. I also have about a dozen, give or take, streaked (breeder) hostas all over the place. So the chance that something was OP from something that is/was a breeder, and I do happen to get a streaky seedling, is better than average, I just don't count on it. I usually try to harvest the pods that the streaked breeder plants put out. I will pollen dab a few select DL's, I just haven't gotten into pollen dabbing Hosta yet.

Thomaston, CT

Gee, Thom, You're lucky with the hellebores....I know what you mean about ladybells....they're all over the garden....

Hallowell, ME

I wish I had such luck!!!!!!

South Hamilton, MA

Especially the bleeding hearts, we have lost ours.

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

I will try and pot some up, for some reason (and I'm not complaining at all), I've had great luck with potting up hosta, hellebore, bleeding hearts, ferns, and a few epimedium and overwintering them...I'll know later on this year/next spring what I have...right now...due to space issues, I have (still) about 30 or so hostas in pots from last year that made it through the winter.

Thomaston, CT

Wow....you could sell them.....

Why is it??? Get rid of the kids for the weekend and I end up sick

Thomaston, CT

Oh, sorry, Jen!

South Hamilton, MA

Sorry, but being sick with the kids around is even more of a bother.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Bummer, Jen. Feel better.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Thanks guys...I think hubby tried to poison me with his bbq

I think I am falling apart. Got sick Friday and now I have a pain in my right side/middle of stomach. Oh dont tell me what I am thinking.

Just now eating scrambled eggs/toast/bacon and one of my teeth cracked off! Its a amalgam filling that is old and time to be replaced, but break off? I was just at the dentist like 3 months ago. My teeth mean a lot to me.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Ugh - sorry, Sherrie.

Thomaston, CT

Yeah, real fun getting old, isn't it?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Getting old STINKS!

I have a pain between my right hip bone and belly button. It is dull and comes and goes. Once in a while it will feel sharp but goes away in 20 seconds or so. My stomach is a tad hard. I think it is my appendix.

I have no choice but to go to the ER as I dont have insurance. I dont want to go and not have a problem! I have not lost appetite, or have vomiting, constipation, nausea, or a fever. These symptoms appear 4-48 hours after the pain starts. 48 hours will be tonight around 7.

So I dont know what to do. - YET

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

You need to go the ER

Not yet. I need more then a dull pain to ensure myself.

South Hamilton, MA

Dull pains are just as dangerous as sharp ones. This post is late at night & I hope that you went to the ER. Get it taken care of now!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Agree, no fun living with the Sword of Damocles hanging over your head.
- Too much of a gamble.

Thanks but not yet. I think I am changing my story. I might have a hernia or a pulled muscle. I think I am paranoid.

No fever no nothing, just a dull pain in my right side mostly when I move or a real deep breath.

South Hamilton, MA

We worry about you. Please get it looked at.

Thomaston, CT

Sherrie, have it checked.
