Today, I am thankful for:
The often surprising difference between photos and the real thing. Coreopsis Cosmic Eye looks almost garish in photos, but saw them today when picking up sale co-op plants and they are endearing and cute. Took five instead of the two originally ordered. :-)
The reasonable prices at the buffet. Took sister and four of her grandkids to lunch for her Mother's Day.. I'm still full, but not broke! LOL
The precious freedom to choose. Even the most simple things. Sleep late or get up early. Eat now or wait for later. Go for a drive or go for a walk. Paint the house green or strip the wood and stain...possibilities abound :))
Today, I am thankful for...#4
Freedom is priceless. My Gsons had theirs taken away because they took what was'nt theirs.
So sad and I regret their actions and the actions i had to take.
Vickie, freedom of choice also comes with responsibility to accept the consequences of our choices. There are ALWAYS consequences. Good choices reap good ones. Bad choices...well...Remember that they exercised their freedom to make bad choices and now are reaping the appropriate consequences. I believe you made a good choice in your actions, and any other action would have been a bad choice. Because if we are not held accountable for what we do, how do we learn? [hugs]
Debra, the type of choices you highlight are often ones that can be enjoyed when living alone. I find that after marrying late in life, my choices are fewer or at least different.
quilty, yes, I can see how they would be somewhat different, if only in that you would consider the other person when choosing to act. Which in itself is a choice. One for which I believe I envy you. :-) But, even though the ending of my marriage is almost 25 years behind me, I'm only 54. I once knew a woman whose (step)grandmother married for the first time at 72, so it is still possible to dive in again. LOL
And what I wrote before can be considered for the one day each week on which I don't have to go to work!
Today, I am thankful that -
Had enough energy to take care of more than half of the many plants waiting to go in the ground. And water. And dig. And move some. :-)
Thankful there was guacamole in the freezer and other stuff in the fridge to make salad, so I didn't have to cook.
I am especially thankful today that my sister did relatively well on this first Mother's Day after her daughter's death last June. She and each of the four grandkids had a Clematis to plant this morning along the front yard fence line. The four kids received Crystal Fountain (their mother's name was Crystal) and my sister got an Empress because Crystal always used to say she was Empress of the house. :-) Also, after two months of watching, the purple rose that was planted for her (her favorite color) has four buds on it today.
Today, I'm thankful for the above conversation RE: choices. Makes you realize why children are at home so long. It takes years to learn to make good decisions.
I'm also thankful for my friend in CA who offered to fly me out to visit her.
Today, I am thankful to have the means to help when the opportunity is presented. :-)
Thankful for the lessening of the new brain med's side effects, slow though it may be. LOL
Thankful for the writing talents of Dana Stabenow, especially the Star Svensdotter series. Read the three books in the series, and reread, and re-reread and...While not as commercially successful, I prefer them to the Kate Shugak series (although I do like that character, too).
I'm thankful for flowerpots and flowers, solar lights, pizzas, strawberrys and bananas. For the ability to go outside. For campfires.
Me, too, Vickie.
kwan, that is priceless. :-)
5/10/2011: today I am thankful that my dear hubby is alive and even though incapacitated, we plan to do the garden tomorrow. We buried a good friend yesterday. Luciee {;^)
Hugs to you and husband, Luciee. (hug)
What? They have brains like mine in a box?
And come in a variety of flavors. LOL
EEEWW, I missed that it was the grocery aisle, thought it was the game section. Knowing how they eat monkey brains in Asia, even while the monkeys are still alive, that is disgusting.
A strawberry cereal named Monkey Brains is a sure-fire kid hit. Kids like disgusting things. LOL My first thought when I see that picture is the movie, "Clue" which I love and can quote sections of verbatim.
Today, I am thankful for some sun so I can finish my outdoor projects.
Going to the other side from kwan ---Today, I am thankful for rain. It's heavy, but we'll be crying for it come August. :-)
Thankful for Powerade and Gatorade (flu, again).
Thankful for PBS' Nova.
I'm going to be thankful for the rain we'll get tomorrow.
I can't remember wanting disgusting things tho i know i did. I remember eating live goldfish that was really carrots we cut up.
Debra do you need to take an immune system booster?
I'm thankful for our mail system. Got a package in the mail today.
Today, I am thankful my DH married me. Don't know what I'd do without him. It's his birthday today and he made it to 47. It's also our granddaughter's birthday. She is one year old.
Where we've had SO MUCH DROUGHT (since mid-March).....
I'M SO VERY VERY VERY THANKFUL FOR RAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We got a few sprinkles yesterday afternoon, so I WORKED IN IT (dancing, singing, laughing)..... until DARK! getting plants in the ground, some transplanted, fertilized, and so very grateful they will get a break and maybe not go into so much shock. It rained overnight, and they're forecasting more today so I put out my big trashcan to collect some.
Also thankful that the landscapers at work decided to replace ALL the plants in our beds here. They were giving them all away! so alot of us took home Azaleas (unk.), Variegated Ginger (Shell ?), some unknown large monkey-type grass OR could be African Iris (?) lol Basically we're not sure what all we got, but they look healthy, just weren't large enough for landscaping and the Azaleas didn't bloom this year. So although I'm not at all sure what kind of Azaleas I got, or what color, they'll be in a mostly shaded area in good soil.
Thankful for a VERY good compost company just down the road from my house that sell AWESOME soil at a VERY good price!! I will be buying their Azalea mix Saturday for my FIVE new Azaleas!
Thankful my husband will be home this weekend so that we can cut down FOUR trees (2 destroyed by pine beetles, one struck by lightning, and one had roots eaten by something).
AND thankful for temperate weather holding here in the south where we would normally be in the 90s DAILY.... ahhhh 80s are wonderful!!

Thankful that our land line is restored and I am doing this from home!! Thankful that DH and I were able to plant everything except okra today. I thought I had seed but did not. I bought some today (Clemson Spineless) and if it does not rain tonight and if God permits, we will plant it tomorrow. I set out 2 rows of tomatoes that I started in March. 4 kinds. Atkinson, Celebrity, Mountain Pride, and a freebie from Parks called Razzleberry. Beans, corn, squash, field peas. I am thankful to God for His bountiful providence. Luciee {;^)
Vickie, the only drug for the MS is the Namenda I just started. Seems to help with the Teflon brain coating, but the jury is out on tolerating side effects. Full physical scheduled for the 27th to see if there is anything else going on.
kwan, happy birthday to your DH. I'm glad you have him.
Cajun, I'm with you! During the 1980 Summer, I was working at a convenience store. When the first rain fell after so long, I ran outside to just stand in it. People were pulling over and into the parking lot to get out with me. Some of us were dancing, then, too. :-)
=========================================================
Like Cajun, today I am thankful for the rain this week and the continued mild temperatures where I live.
Today, I am thankful that my biggest dog was reasonably still and patient during his haircut and hot spot treatment. He was professionally groomed one time and is still so terrified of electric trimmers nine years later, I only give him a hand-done-chop-it-off-with-scissors cut.
I am also thankful that the middle dog didn't eat too much of the hair off the floor before I could pick it up. (Vet thinks it is some kind of instinctive protective/pack-defensive behavior, like not leaving any spoor behind.) And thankful that the littlest dog stayed well back and silent. Her bark is particularly high-pitched and shrill. LOL
Hi, Luciee. :-)
Debra, I have a cat who eats his own hair. Our vet can't figure out why.
DD has a cat that eats her own hair. Her vet says it could be allergies or the cat is psyco.LOL
Debra, I was in ETX in 80 Did that rain start in Sept. I remember how excessive the heat was and no rain. We got out and celebrated too.
LOL these little dogs have big if shrill voices.
I'm tickled about your azalias too Cajun,You did good! We've got those awful pine beetles too. I have hardwoods but there is some wiered thing eating on them too.
Lucee, I know you are proud of that garden and you have a right to be. Nothing better than fresh veggies. At least i'll have fresh tomatoes and cukes.
Thankful for bologna sandwiches and ripe bananas.
Debra, i have a Boston who used to lick the hot spots (and hair) off my male Basset. Vet couldn't explain that either. We suspected that was just her instinct to 'heal' the hot spots. but then i caught her licking the same place (tho no hot spot) on my female Basset. have NO idea what goes thru her head....
Thankful today for over 24 hours of off and on rain here. I spent the past two evenings after work in my yard working until dark! yea! I got sooooooo much done and feel so much better about my garden now.
Lucee, a bit jealous of your garden *smile* Mine's ok, but the deer and bunnies are eating my "crops" - I think I'll plant my beans this weekend and put a fence around and see if that helps.
LOL Cando... i love it "thankful for bologna sandwiches... " hehee
but ooh! if you have something eating your hardwood floors, that sounds like termites!! gotta get that checked out pronto!!
I LOVE bologna sandwiches! Those and peanutbutter. Kid food, my DH calls them but I don't care.
Today, I am thankful my neighbors trust me enough to watch their cat.
Hi, Debra! We got the okra planted just before the rain. I am thankful God sent the rain when He did. I have so much to be thankful for, many blessings from God. Luciee {;^)
I like thick-cut bologna sandwiches with catsup.
Kwan, my favorite peanut butter eating is on toast with real butter (while possibly a necessary evil, margarine is a crime against nature :-).
======================================================
Broken record, but today I am thankful for low 70s temps.
I am thankful for an alarm clock still going strong after 20+years.
Thankful for the ability to make my 13-year-old grandnephew happy by simply letting him talk as much as he wants.
Debra, I like peanutbutter on toast with honey or just plain peanutbutter on toast. Mom used to try and make me eat it with butter but I couldn't do it. Try bologna with mayo and sweet pickle relish on 12 grain bread. Mmm...
Today, I am thankful for my rescue inhaler!
Toast with peanut butter and bacon. Daddy used to sometimes dip the toast in the bacon fat on the plate, then put the peanut butter on. That was then, now he eats more healthily. I like to make a PB&J, then put it into the fridge, then eat it cold. When I took DD and her friends to the beach I'd use almost a loaf of sandwich bread, make the PB&J's then put them all back into the bread bag for travel in the cooler.
Today I am thankful for antibiotics. Feeling better from what I originally thought was just a stiff neck till my whole head, neck and shoulders hurt.
I am thankful, also, for cool weather for several days. That and feeling better may get me out in the garden.....
My parents met over a peanutbutter and fried egg sandwich...
They both were eating the same weird thing? That was a sure to be romance.
I am thankful for roses. Mine have been beautiful even with the bad weather. I am thankful every day for God and His Son who died so that such a worm as I can live. Luciee
My uncle liked peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwiches. Never tried the famous pb, banana, and bacon sandwich. I like my bacon pure. The dog treat commercial? The one where the dog is going crazy saying, "It's BAYY-CON!" --that's me. Although, fresh ripe tomato slices with it. OMG, drool, drool... LOL
Have a jar of pb in my desk drawer at work. The boss' 20 month old grandson has his own "office" and is with us every Friday. He loves his peanut butter, so we share pb and crackers at snack time.

Today, I am thankful to have talked with the Amargia people and they are fine, if going through Internet withdrawals. :-) Will be even more thankful when they are back online.
I am thankful for the beeee-YEW-TEE-FUL afternoon. At least one more tomorrow before the warm up starts. Think I will pull an armchair out to the back porch. Sunshine, cool breezes, feet up, baseball on the radio, dogs running 'round the yard, a cup of coffee or glass of soda, a book, and cooking hamburgers later. Feels like a great plan for the day.
Very very thankful for my sister's continued good health and sanity.
My father was a short order cook in a diner in southern CA while attending USC. He kept getting orders for this odd dish and finally came out to meet the person who ordered it. They spoke, made a date and the rest is history.
Today, I am thankful for indoor shooting ranges, cuddly cats, international mail service and online movie ticket ordering.
I am double tripple thankful the doctor decided he would'nt put me in the hospital if i took my BP every few hours and head for the ER if it did'nt come down. It has. They kept me in the clinic abt 5 hours. BP was dancing around 190,s over 110 but came down to 140 over 95.Now abt 138/56. Am definately gonna live. Am taking stronger meds.High BP seems to send the blood sugar up too.But it's back down too.
It has been cold here. In the 50.s daytime 40s and 30s at night. A slow warm up tomorrow.
I have a similar daylilly but does'nt have the ruffling yours does.
Love cuddly cats. Kwan, Are you another Annie Oakley? I love the storys of how people meet. What was the dish your mom ordered? Guess the closest thing to an unusual dish was ordering a chocolate malt in Mass. Those poor people do not drink malts unless they've started since the 60,s LOL They do have Frappes, Similar but not the same. They do have maple syrup tho and we don't.
Debra, You know how to live the good life!
