We came from here.
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1159256/
The thread is to talk about anything for which we are thankful that day, be it big, small, or anywhere in between.
Today, I am thankful for...#4
Thank you Debra.
WATER IS ON THE WAY!!!!!!
It has'nt reached us yet but it's been turned on and should be here anytime. It has about 3 mountains to climb,go over and down and up again.
I'm so very thankful for
A hot shower tonight.A long one LOL For Dishes washed, Clothes washed. I can disinfect the house. The dogs
God Bless the National Guard.
Debra, I'll be fine. Thank you.
Thankful for the National Guard FOR you.
I think with coming times, we need to consider what we are thankful for and prepare ourselves and family to continue to have those things.
Thankful for sites giving information on how to prepare to natural and civic/$ disasters.
Today, I am thankful for problem children who decide NOT to be problem children.
yea, vickie!
kwan, i was blessed with no human-type children, so have no problem children. been saying for years my sister got her share and mine, too. i know my payback is coming, just waiting for that shoe to drop...probably a steel-toe right on my head!
================================================
thankful today for lowes sales and the somewhat surprising cargo area of a prius. eight bags of garden soil, four bags of mulch, eight two-quart perennials, two bottles of roundup and still had plenty of room to spare.
thankful today for the generosity of my boss who has let my sister drive a company vehicle for two weeks, now, while her scion is in the smushed up car hospital. :-)
thankful today for having taken the day off and received NOT ONE work-related phone call until five minutes after 5:00 this afternoon. a new record of restraint!
I should have quotation marks around "problem children." LOL We have no "human" children, either. Three cats are our kids. The "children" I referenced were at DH's work.
Today, I'm thankful for Barnes & Noble. Also, that my nieces kitty is now out of pain. Jean lost her kitty, Sugar, awhile back to diabetes. She lost his sister, Spicy, to stomach cancer today. Both kitties are now playing together again.
Oh I'm so sorry for Jean. She must be heartbroken.
It's been awhile since i've been to a Barnes and Noble. I used to be thankful for them.
I'm sad to say,We still do not have water. We're at the end of the line and that poor water has'nt reached us yet.Tomorrow surely.
I am thankful it is coming.
Thankful for grilled sausage and camp fires.
I am thankful for this thread.
You will never know how much this thread has helped me thru this without having a temper tantrum.LOL
Vickie
Greetings all - Vickie, what exactly happened to cause your area to be without water? I do not watch or read many news programs, so haven't heard what is going on in your neck of the woods. I know what a whiner I become whenever our power goes out for even short periods, so I am sure that you have done a much better job at staying chipper about no water, than I would have been able to.
Today I am grateful for electrical power.
Ruby
Ruby, Our rural water comes from an experimental well(deepest well in Arkansas.) The pump broke down and no parts available. They had to pull the pump up and make the parts. Its about 40 miles from here and water has to flow up and down a couple of mountains to get here. They turned the water back on day before yesterday. But the water has'nt got here yet. A couple days from now this is all going to be funny. LOL
Vickie
kwan, boy, do i know THAT one. {grimace} Several of my employees came to us out of the high school work co-op program and are still with us finishing up their second years in college. Sometimes, they act more mature and adult than the 40 to 50-somethings that are SUPPOSED to be grown up and adult...
Ruby, me too!
Vickie, it's the story of The Little Water Pump That Could. :-) fingers crossed for minor miracles, today.
Forty to fifty-somethings...that's them! LOL They were good boys and girls this week. ^_^
Today, I am thankful our neighborhood is not in a flood area. Thankful that the temps have been low enough that the melting snow isn't causing too much damage.
Today, I am thankful for old friends. (Jim)
Today, I am thankful that...
I got a sudden spurt of energy about 7:30 this evening and slung 25 two and a half inch plant plugs into the beds and watered them before it got dark. Have an uncomfortable feeling about my energy level tomorrow and some of the plugs were already getting droopy. :-)
I stumbled across the 2011 Peonies thread. Thank you SteveFtWorth and drthor!! My grandmother had Peonies in Indiana and they always remind me of her. Thought Festiva Maxima was about the only one that would bloom here. But these Peony growers have shown me that the "Way of the Peony" DOES run straight through to Texas. LOL
I was already so freckled on my arms that the age spots showing up on my hands these last few years blend right in...
Thankful today for the joy and companionship given and received by fellow DG'rs in person at our SoCal Round Up. Good turnout, including what will be new DG'rs. We had great food shared, hay rides around member Singingwolf's Christmas Tree and Bee Farm, a lot of plant trading and even a craft table where we covered bowling balls with tiles and glass globbs. We missed some who have moved away or could not be there. SW's DH has a Bee business and due to unseasonable cold weather he set us up inside the bee barn (no bees) and gave us a tour.
I am thankful I watched the weather report at 11PM that had me run outside and gather all the veggie plants ready to be planted. I brought them into the kitchen to avoid the 34 degree temp. Can you believe it is mid April in SoCal? We had hail on Friday and snow down to 3000ft.
today, i am thankful that::::
Singing Wolf is doing well. :-)
I was able to borrow an extra iPhone charging cable.
I got so much done outside today when didn't expect to. Maybe not thinking about how tired I was helped? Or maybe it was because I was still in my slippers and not watching the time to notice how long I had been working...in my house shoes...LOL
LOL Am glad i don't have 34* temps. Am glad I have running water,clean clothes,clean dishes,a clean dog,clean me.
Vickie
Wait! Cando, that means the water got there. YAY, YAY, YAY. THankful you have water!
You bet cha!!!!!!!
Vickie has water!!! Woohoo!!!!!
Today I am thankful for the good report from Vickie. I am thankful for a beautiful day here in Virginia and that I woke up feeling pretty good and may be able to cross off most of the things on my to do list.
Ruby
Great, Vickie! I think you should splurge on a box of your favorite Calgon to celebrate. Light your favorite scented candle and lounge in a hot tub with a icy glass of cranberry juice cocktail until your skin turns rosy pink and prunes up. :-)
Debra, I want a pair of those magic garden slippers that help you not notice how tired you are.
Today, I am thankful for exhausting, beautiful April. ~Nadine~
Today, I am thankful for my great niece. She is the spitting image of her grandmother who drownded in a flash flood years ago while out jogging. They share their name.
I am also thankful for my grandson who is smart, funny, energtic and serious about the rest of his life. He is a junior in high school
nadine, it was the oddest thing, almost like a trance. unlike my normal manic "gotta get it done!". paid attention when stepping on the garden fork to dig holes, but no concern about slipping off. picked up a slipper with my toes to shake out any little clods that got under my foot...just...kinda...moved...around...and...picked...up...a...pot...dug...a...hole... Stuff like that. then, "i'm gonna sit down here on the sidewalk and toss out mulch like slowpitch softball." different story this morning. oh, gosh, i KNOW i'm tired now. [grin]
woodspirit, great to have family continuity. it's comforting and definitely something for which to be thankful. :-)
=======================================================
today, i am thankful for...
EON plant markers. Amazing things that I just recently discovered were available. I've been using wooden clothespins, the plastic tags that came with the pots, and my Teflon-coated memory. Who knew? LOL
No wind or hail damage from the storms in North Central Texas last night, they only rained on me and I am very very happy about that rain.
Vickie gots WATER!!! Blessed, blessed hot showers, clean clothes, and clean dishes...well, maybe not the last one so much. BUT SHOWERS AND CLOTHES!!! YEA!!!
A lot of people use clipped mini blinds and a grease pencil, now called a china marker. Not as attractive as the EONs though.
I use cut-up mini blinds and a paint pen for the pots on the nursery tables. I prefer the paint pen even though it is a little more expensive because it doesn't smudge, wash off or fade before transplant time.
Today, I am thankful for chocolate and its amazing power to soothe savage women. :-) A cup of cocoa and a few Oreos seems to have the ability to restore the women here to their peaceful, rational selves. I think I should keep an emergency supply of chocolate in the medical kit. Pity it doesn't appear to work for men. (Jim)
"CHOCOLATE hath powers to soothe the savage beast?" lol. I thought that was "Music hath......" If we are going to keep "emergency chocolate" around, I would suggest dark chocolate flavored with raspberries.
I am thankful today that women talk things out when they have issues....while sharing chocolate, if possible. ~N~
Today I am thankful for my DD, Ariana, who worked like a dog all day. DH has been forming a Hay Co-op to help folks around here (including 2 rescues with 90 horses between them) get hay for a more resonable price. We received our first delivery today and I let DD stay out of school to help. She not only learned to keep track of everyone, giving them their receipts and getting their money, but she helped load the trucks and trailers, lifting over 162 of the 110# bales. She will be sore!
Thankful also for DH who took on this project. No profits, just neighbors (well members are maybe 80 miles spread out) helping neighbors.

YES, chocolate, keep one emergency supply in my quilting notions drawers. You never know....
Need to find some shelf stable chocolate to put in our emergency supplies for earthquakes, fires, and stuff.
I still call it a grease pencil. {grin} But I do like paint pens, 'specially the Purple metallic ones.
Chocolate is one of the four main food groups if you are of older memory like me, or the base of the food pyramid if you are of younger memory than me...or than am I (never remember the correct grammatical form--if either one is even correct LOL).
Good neighbors are priceless.
My oldest friend works for Mars at their headquarters in New Jersey. I will ask her about shelf-stable supplies. :-)
==========================================================
Today, I am thankful for:
Being the boss, so when I stop home for lunch after an appointment and lay down "only for a minute" (you know how this one goes) and fall asleep, that I am not in trouble when I wake up.
Iced Vanilla Chai Tea.
Clarks shoes. Sixty Deltas, specifically.
Festiva Maxima. The only bloom on it this year, but surprising to have one at all after moving it last Fall. (Posted over on the Peonies II thread, too.)
Four main food groups: Frozen, take-out, reservations and chocolate. Those groups??
yep, those groups. with coffee as a subcategory of chocolate
Today, I am thankful for:
Robin Calderon of Earlybird Daylilies and Ed Thaubald of Bentley Gardens/Hosta Liners. Two of my favorite vendors, who send you MORE than what you pay for. :-)
The first fireflies of the year flitting around while I finished up planting those daylilies and potting those hostas.
Ceiling fans.
Thankful for rain, rain, rain.
Do you reckon if i take my fireflys some coffee,They'll wake up and do their thing. We probably wont have any for a month.
Quilty, Those are the four best food groups. I've got cocoa stocked up. and honey. It does'nt ruin but i found out it turns to sugar. Thats ok. I like the sugar too.
Rain due here tomorrow.
Do all of you have peonys? I've got two, a red and pink.
I am thankful I live in the woods so i can hollar for my cats to come home and nobody will call the police for me making too much noise.

Have a Festiva Maxima herbaceous and Taiyo and Shima Nishiki trees. Shima is new, so its really tiny. Found a thread here called Peonies 2011 and discovered that, yes, we can TOO grow more than Festiva in Texas. :-D Going to try a Buckeye Belle or Cherry Charm next.
The only bloom on the Festiva this year. But it was moved last Fall and I am happy to see even one.
Today, I'm thankful for DHs with a sense of humor. Couldn't get through a day without laughter.
I have Sarah Berhardt, Festiva Maxima, Pillow Talk and Sorbet coming up. The tree peony is Hanakisoi. Maybe it will bloom for me this year.

Lost 2 paragraphs I had written due to edited a former post! Oops.
Anyway, yes honey last indefinitely, they found viable honey in mummy tombs. Cocoa as a shelf stable item, good idea, as least some chocolate taste. Can be mixed with water, dry milk and sugar, or duh (!) cocoa mix that only needs water.
Peonies are not SoWest friendly, darn. I know people who grow stuff in this desert environment that should not work, but that is more labor intensive than I care for.
Continue to be thankful for DD as she has become more involved with this hay co-op. She has now designated herself Secretary/Bookkeeper. She does not want to actually handle the cash/cks, but will keep track of it all. She has designed a logo and letterhead and will make a banner and stickers with the logo in her graphics arts class at school. She spent a couple hours organizing (a word that has been foreign to her for 12 school years) lists, spread sheets and a binder to keep all her computer sheets together, with the explicit directions to me to NOT make any changes. I can look, but not add/change. Funny girl.
Today I am thankful for the sunshine. I am also thankful for April showers when we get them too.
Ruby
Thankful that I am ALL THE WAY BETTER (thanks to modern medicine and a pro-active MD) and that DD#1 seems just maybe, possibly, a little bit more mature (could it be?).
