awesome duc!!
GG...I agree.... would welcome the flickers over the grackles any day!! I hope you get babies too! I had the one couple years back that I watched the male work so hard on a hole in a tree just across from the house. I was sooo excited that I might get to watch them nest. But they ended up picking another spot to nest. I watch this hole though every spring just in case someone uses it!
Old photo showing him in the hole...

Nice pics everyone!
.. ...But they ended up picking another spot to nest.
Nice picture Nanny. Mine are all nesting in the woods behind my house. If it ever warms up a bit, I want to go out there and see if I can find their nests without letting them know I am spying on them. I have a good idea where one of the nest cavities is, but not the other. There are several large dead trees back in that area, so they could establish a condo if they wanted to!! LOL
Hey GG, put out the wingscapes camera!
I was just thinking today that I have a natural cavity starting in a tree out front and I should keep an eye on it.
Mrs-Ed, I'm late as usual, but thanks for the new thread, love seeing the Junco again.
You all have given a great contribution to this thread and with Spring arriving it will be fun to see all the new arrival.
One of my new arrival was the Red-winged blackbird last week.
I did not get a good shot yet of him, hopefully I will before they move on to the marshes and ponds.
I made a run to the landfill this afternoon. The road I take goes by a large swamp and I have seen several bald eagles perched on dead trees there. I took my camera with the 400mm lens just in case. As luck would have it, an eagle WAS there, but unfortunately, there were several cars following me and there was no place for me to pull off. So I sped on the the landfill, got rid of my trash and headed back, hoping he was still there. He was, and I stopped my truck in the road and got about 20 shots of him.
Then I drove on about 500 yards to where I could pull off the road and I stood at the edge of some trees and got a few more shots. About that time he flew off in the opposite direction. As I watched, he circled around and headed right for me, not more than 30 feet off the water. Very much like Duc's eagle.
Very nice shots Dave!
very, very good shot Dave, the only place around here to see Bald Eagles is one of the islands, and the only way to get there is by boat, which I do not possess! My hubby was so lucky, he went to the club and when he got out of the truck he heard pecking, looked up and guess who he saw, our pileated, so he sat and watched him for a while, now I know where he hangs out, I may take another walk and see if I can get a shot of him, isnt that the way it is though, you go somewhere and don't have a camera and there is a perfect shot. But the exercise is doing me good, so I just walk and walk. I am thinking of taking my seed feeder in for a while, everytime I put seed in it, the sparrows come in droves, and I want to attract something more than sparrows. I was outside yesterday sweeping the sidewalk and the Nuthatch was just singing to me, I was right beside the suet feeder, he came down and hung there and ate and talked to me, it was precious the way those wild birds trust us to give them what they need and not hurt them.
Very nice burn & Dave!! I have the same problem with cars behind me a lot...and I am driving out on country roads! lol
ok, who turned the snow making machine back on?
Granny, I hope you get to see the young flickers.
Burns, congrats on the new arrival of red-winged. Your little downy is handsome. Love the redpolls.
Dave, your eagle shots were fantastic, especially that taking off shot-beautiful. I can just see you now, going back every day to the landfill with a load of cameras, tripods etc. Hmm, maybe I should check our landfill area.... Love the bluebird and heron photos too.
This Brewer's Blackbird was really enjoying the bathwater yesterday.
Saw crows chasing an owl yesterday.
teddy...that is a big improvement....Great Job!
