Tropical Garden # 96

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Debra your plants are growing crazy! What do you feed them...lol!

MJ luv your white mg bush!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I used to have three mg bushes, started from seeds, sent them away to peeps, I never saw them bloom.. if you get a cutting ROOTED, please save any colour for me.. I promise not to kill it.
Prennial girl, I feed them Kens mix.. all winter long.
I have never grown an abutilon, planted seeds, never came up, but my friend in Eskridge grows them like crazy.. some things work for me and some things don't..
Kay, if you don't take the crossandra, like I said it is small, like it was when I sent Rita hers, it will surely die.. They aren't made to do well here..
If this mg makes seeds, i will save you all some from it, thing is, it may be weird because it is inside, so when I move it outside, the blooms may change entirely, and I will post it as it blooms.. okay?

Look at this crazy baby woodrose..

Deb, the sweet potato vine is a perennial in Florida - really rampant!

(Zone 1)

Debra: Again ... great growing, you have your very own nursery/garden center right there in your basement!

Really Kay? LOL gosh, they fry in winter here..

Lin, those are so very pretty.. my christmas cactus is still blooming, have no clue why, but I will take it. I love seeing them bloom..

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

oh, how stunning! After this last phone call with my sister, this is just what I needed to see... Thank You.

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Linda, is that easter cactus LIGHT, LIGHT pink? If so, I'd love a couple of cuttings. I have hot pink, white and reddish/orange.

mjs, I'm glad that everything is ok with you and the horses. As far as your African Mask plant, keep it warm and in bright light but water sparingly until you see growth. It may take it a little while to appear again so just be patient with it. I can replace it for you if you happen to lose it. Very pretty white MG bush bloom.

Debra, all those plants look great and thanks again for rooting me a Chalice vine. Your lil Monstera is ready to mail but I'm still waiting on the Philo. to root which should not be too much longer. Please send me a update about your sister. Big hug!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Lin your pink Easter cactus is lovely!

Debra what is your pink heart plant? Where can I find the recipe you use? Also does the chalice vine make seeds? I had one but lost it two years ago when I was ill.

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

Ok....Lin you did it, now I have the Nun's Orchid on my want list, and I said NO more Orchids LOL...

Rachel, will do as you say...although the pot was sitting outside under some oaks during the last few days of torrential rain fall. I'll check the tuber again and move the pot into the greenhouse. I thought it might be happier and come back where it got filtered light.

Hello Everybody!

RachelLF, glad to hear that your Crytosperma Johnstonii is hanging in there for you. I will definitely give that one another chance. It grew to a decent size several years ago, in a pot without any drain holes. It was an eye catcher!

Not a good picture but it made a great comeback. Anturium Regale.

Homer1958, thanks, That Is a beauty! The A wentii has always been one of my favorate. Good job growing it to that size.

Perennialgirl, When is your average last freeze? and when can you safely take your plants outdoors?

Joeswife, that is truly a beautiful MG, I hope that the color does not change. I love your crazy baby woodrose as well, lets hope that it blooms this summer. Rj was the only other person that has shown blooms of them.
I always enjoyed seeing your garden progress through your pictures, keep them coming.

mjsponies, I am batting a big zero when it comes to overwintering the A. African mask. I am glad Rachel was able to help.
Those are some beautiful orchids, but I will be content just to admire yours. I really do not need another obsession.
Was there any other damage on your property from the storm? I was all prepared last night for rain and got zilch.

HollyAnnS, I have a few rocks that I like to re-arrange so often that my DH threatens to put them on wheels. I have a hand cart that I use for my big pots, without asking for help.

Plantladylin, I hope that all is calm for you today, and that you are enjoying a perfect day, like it is here. Picture Perfect Day!! Spring is getting in the way of my picture taking, so much to get done. I sure would like to have the energy I had at 50.
I did not know that there is a Easter cactus as well, what a beauty!

Prita your Anturium Regale is awesome! Luv the deep veining on the leaves. Usually by May 25th we don't have frost. I do have a small hard plastic greenhouse that my DH bought me for my 50th birthday last year. He also has to finish the bigger greenhouse he made for me.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Evening everyone, beautiful blooms.. came hom from wwork and went to work outside, son came over to move some really heavy stuff and dig some stuff up. I am so lucky to have him..I forgot to mention Happy AnniversaryTo You successful marrried folks celebrating. Seems a lot are having their Anniversarys this month.
Maya has bloomed. Prenneialgirl I meant the coral vine, the leaves look like hearts, and the blooms look like little pinkish dainty blooms. I grew a ton of it last year and then sent it away. My Polys are all still happy, anthuriums are showing leaves, life is good.
I bet I planted a thousand seeds outside today, and dug up all the renegades, some people are coming over tommorrow to dig up some more.. thank Goodness. Most tropicals are gointo the front porch which gets morning sun, some are staying inside, and I have redesigned the back yard lay out ( again)

Rita,
Fortuantely only the tree on the back gate and corner of the fence got smooshed some. 9 inches of rain from Monday to Thursday when all said and done, and not a puddle to be seen. That's how dry it's been here !
Today was a drop dead gorgeous Day !

Donna/Rita - We have a "moratorium' on Pahl's and Dendrobiums now. 13 is enough. There are 3 more out in the greenhouse with spikes. It's hard though, especially when EFG Orchids right up the road and he's been having sales. I STAY AWAY !! LOL...

Passion Flower Eichleriana White form opened up today and has lots more buds on it.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Rita what is the orange flower in your above post? it is cool...

Mjs Kens Mix is a spray for plants, it is posted on the brug forum, I use it on everything all year around. Love the passi pics and the Orchids, no way can I even begin to try them, but they are great to look at here..
been working on trades last night and today.. I am ready to get rid of some duplicates.

But, Debra - tonite is DATE NITE!

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

Debra,
Here is a pic of your "Seed Cake' seedlings. What is the larger plant on the left? Looks like maybe a Datura ?

Thumbnail by mjsponies
DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

Pic of Tweedia Caerulea or I call it the "Tweedy Bird Vine"
It's in the Milkweed family, and grows to about 5-6 feet. I started it from seed early last year and it kinda just "hung around" and didn't do much.
It's taking off this year and is budding up nice !

Thumbnail by mjsponies
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Kay, I know, but gosh, the Final Four is On!!! LOL
Mj's I tried to grow some of those tweedias, they never sprouted.. They are sure cute, tho. I also had some seeds from something called blue jade vine? They didn't do anything either.. ususally I am pretty good at seeds..

And yep that do look like a datura inoxia to the left there.. and a zinnia, and
looks like a tiny fleabane aster too.. could you post that in my mudflower thread?
This is a display from last year in Buffalo... I am going to try to imitate it..If it works there, it should work here, right?

Thumbnail by joeswife
Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Debra did your Coral vine bloom right away from seed? I have a pink and a white coral vine that I started from seeds but it hasn't bloomed for me yet. It's probably 3 years old.

MJ luv your white passie! Thanks for the reminder for the tweedia vine. I just planted pink ones that I bought last year. I hope they turn out to be pink and not the blue.

Huntersville, NC(Zone 7b)

What the he&* is a DH?

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

DH=Dear Husband

Mjs, that white blooming Passiflora is very pretty and one that I've not heard of. I have a Passi. that I just can't seem to make happy. I can't remember which one it is at the moment but if you want it, you can have it. I'll let you know which one it is when I remember;)

Rita, If I get a pup from my C.johnstonii, it is yours and your Regale is gorgeous and very healthy. I recognize your noid as a Sagittaria. I think that Sag. is a beautiful one to grow and I hope you enjoy it as well.

New plant for me from Brian Williams, Lasia.

Beautiful!

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

Rachel - Thank You...I've had that one for over a year ! Got as a tiny cutting . I have another one like it with a pale lavender ring that has been stingy with the blooms but it making buds now too. I think we are having the perfect weather for them right now. Warm days and fairly cool nights. Sent you a d-mail about your unhappy passi.
I need to post of pic of C.amazonica...it's making these long "stringy" things out...are they aerial roots ? Or is it searching for something to climb. I still have it in a hanging basket but I think it might want new shoes.

Ceropegia sandersoniae - Parachute Plant needs new shoes too...trying to climb right out of the basket.
