Plant Propagation part XXXIII based on my own experience

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

I didn't know you could landlock property JB. I know you can fence your own property, and I suppose you cannot be forced to give a right of way to the neighbor, but I still did not think you could landlock them. I didn't think the laws and maps could allow a piece of property to be landlocked. Put it in that position.

Suppose anything is possible.

What does a dozen daffs sell for now? I see them in the supermarket all the time, but think they are in bunches of 6. Haven't priced them, and they are just the original daffs. Nothing fancy.

Bob and I each bought a pkg of Girl Scout cookies yesterday. Can't believe it!! $4 for a small box of cookies. Oh well, the girls looked pleased that we bought them, and that is what counts I guess. At least they are standing out in the lousy weather and not having the parents sell them at the office.

Gotta get busy. Wanted to work on the hoophouse today but the weather is so bad I doubt we will unless it clears up by this afternoon.

I'm cheered up a bit today. Tony is back. Neighbor Tom had the man with the backhoe here. I had offered to let him level an area in fron of my driveway to make it easier for him to get his heavy equipment in. Tom work has been as a contractor who builds roads so he tends to work with big machines and kind of looks down his nose as Tony and I happily move ahead slowly. However, I think he appreciates my offer and the dirt that is removed will be pushed down into the arroyo where we can use it to level some steep spots.

I just placed an order with Logees to be delivered when I'm in San Diego. Three heat tolerant blueberries and one new orange. The orange has red pulp like a red ruby grapefruit but is sweet like a navel. Or so they say. I am preparing the places to plant them. Citrus do especially well here. If the blueberries do well I'll be ecstatic. (And much smarter, I'm sure.)

Tom has fixed my ATV so I can have another practice ride. I want to get seeds for neem trees. My neighbor down the road has them.

As others have noted, there is a lot to do in March.

The birds are flocking to the schotia tree. All their happy chirping does help to cheer me up. My newly planted seeds get covered with old fan covers for protection from the birds.

The wind has died down and my blooming brug still looks good.

Beautiful day here. Probably in the 70's with a little breeze. Clear blue skies and bright sunshine which is what we usually have except when there's a hurricane.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Yes it is possible to land lock someone. that is why the sell right of way easments. the people that bought the land thats land locked were idiots because one never just assumes they can use a specific pathe across another persons property. My gradfather had to buy 5 acres from the guy who sold him is 5 acres because they would not sell him a right of way. he managed to get away with saying no because there was another way onto the property from the back side.

I wish I could charge rent for the green monster. its behind the chamaecyparis at the end of the blact ground cloth. I will attach a pic od how it looks now with all the "hellicopters" all over the place

The girls Scouts had to rely on sales at outside tables this year because of some stupid regulation about them selling in advance. I swear the city has nothing better to do than harrass the girlscouts. give me a freaking break.

Does everyone have someone who will get on and tell us whats going on if we fall ill and cant post for a long time??? I thought about it in my case and no one knows how to post an update about me if I was hit by a truck today.

Here is the pic of the nursery after all my plantings and the green monster. I truely wish I could charge rent for the silly thing. I have ground clothe down around it but its not pinned down so if they need accaess all they/me have to do is move a few plants. I really hope they succeed with the killing of the volunteer plants. they are suposed to treat them after cutting them down.

well I have to get moving. Have a great day 6 outbound orders today with one being 5 trays of plants.

oh yea: KB I wanted to coment on the 2 lt pop bottle used to air layer cuttings from plants growing in the ground. That is a great idea. i bought some fancy thick plastic air layering system 2 years ago and its the same idea on the pop bottle. You will want to poke some holes to allow dranage but make sure the spagnum moss is kept moist. if you use a rooting hormone I see now problem getting them to root. Please take pics and share with us
the pic is the north half of the GH where my salvia is.

Dave, when I was a kid, we used to take those and peel them apart and stick them on our noses. That was just a fun thing kids did instead of coke and pills. lol

Here is the daffodil field this morning, second day of sun. It shined on Sat. or was it Sunday for about an hour. Today it came out about noon or a little before. The temp keeps going up. This will drive me crazy if it keeps on like this all Spring. It is to rain tomorrow.

JB ~ Do you add daffs every year to your field? Do they require separating after a while? I have them growing all over here, but a few here, and a few there. I have a dedicated bulb garden up front, but it has more than daffodils. Do you mix any other bulbs in there, or is it just a dedicated cutting/show garden for daffs?

mulege, Mexico

JB I love the daffodills. I planted hundreds of them in Michigan on my parents' property. I miss them almost as much as I do raspberries.

Thank's for the compliment on the bottle idea, Dave. Plastic bottles are a huge part of the land fill problem so I'm hoping it works. I will probably try it on a branch of my schotia tree; it would be great to be able to propogate it that way. I'm most hopeful about the pomegranates. I got lots of coir window box liners at Walmart just before Christmas when they were almost free and I think I can use a piece of that inside the bottle to help keep it moist.

The "soil" in the arroyo is so rocky that adding some slightly less rocky soil will be most welcome. We usually sift the soil, using the rocks to fill tires for paths. If we get the energy to get seaweed, manure and dry palm logs we will have some great soil. I have a really good shredder so if we can let the seaweed get semi-dry and find palm logs that are dry enough to pull apart (while making gorilla noises) I will be in dirt heaven.

We found a bunch of volunteer papaya seedlings in one of my big planters. And it looks like I might have two little seedling tangerines.

I got some work done outside this morning but my foot is starting to hurt so I'm back at the puter. May work on my seed order for JLHudson. Then lie down and read. I get so tired from the pain. I'm really grateful when I wake up able to work for an hour or two.

Good weather for lying around so I'll be thankful for that and kick back.

hugs, kb

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

First years we planted about three or four hundred a year. Now we are down to 150 or 200 a year. Depending on what we need to fill in. I do not want to expand any more. This is strictly for cutting. No special plan , just rows. Mostly hybrids and naturalizers. If they close up with age, it is o.k. with us. We only sell them retail and wholesale once a year and it does not present a problem. When I am gone they probably will not even bother selling them. It will just either remain a bulb field or they will dig them up. We have never and do not intend to separate them. We just add year after year. We had ten rows but we lost some over this past winter. Now we will order to fill in those blank spaces this fall. The really different hybrids Brecks sells do not winter well in the field. Some do great, others I have lost two seasons of planting the same thing. I finally give up after I loose the first batch and if they do not replace it for free, I do not order it again. I began collecting these in May of 2005.
The land to the right of the daffies is my veggie garden space. To the left are the pussy willows and the iris, which you can not see because the daffies are too tall.
Glad you enjoy looking at my pretties.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks KB, but I've run out of room for things, and it's taken me 5 years to learn how to say no, and even then I slip. My good friend and neighbor runs zone9tropicals.com and I think it's become a competition to flood each other with plants. More often than not, I'll be seen with large potted plant in hands, spinning around like a top looking for a place to put it. This year I've managed to down size somewhat- and still have enough plants to populate my garden with new ones after the winters freeze.

Jeanette, I've slowed down on the pictures and the time online- In fact, I think I'm slowing down in general! I think Southwest Fertilizer is paired up with the Hibiscus Society- In any case, I can only find it at that store. I don't think they have online sales. I can send you more when your ready.

JB, I grump about aches and pains already- Looks like it's really warm in your neck of the woods today! I see it's 86F by the Newark airport. I sure could relate to the one week of warm weather comment, I was griping about the heat, humidity and mosquitos last week. In any case I'll take those 3 over ice any day.

Evelyn, I mostly grow tropical plants- I have a green house to over winter the tender ones, the others tend to come back like Brugs and Hibiscus. I've learned to be a bit more organized, but still move plants around like I'm re-arranging my living room. I think the neighbors think I'm wee off my rocker, as I'll open my back gate up and haul out these giant plants and plant them in the front. I'm hoping to visit Katie some day- I may have the time after my office moves to Chicago (Continental is becoming United airlines) and our headquarters is moving to downtown Chicago. I intend to stay on my patch of beloved earth here in Houston. This is a link to some pictures I took of the garden a few years ago. I go through phases- I grew up in West Africa, so the phase in the following photos, was jungle and natural- My current phase, is more tidy and manicured! http://davesgarden.com/community/blogs/t/rjuddharrison/5698/
The growing season here is basically have everything in the ground by the end of March, if it's vegetables or edibles, by the end of Feb.

mulege, Mexico

I'm kind of shaky. Just had a tlak with neighbor Tom about the backhoe work. My understanding was that the dirt was to be moved from my area to my part of the arroyo. That would give him the space to bring in his big machinery and I would get more dirt in my side of the arroyo. He had the backhoe man put the dirt on his side of the arroyo. I kept my cool and explained that it was not my intention that he should get the wider driveway he wanted plus my dirt which I just wanted moved. He claimed not to understand why I would want more dirt in the arroyo. We both kept it pleasant and the backhoe man will come back in the morning and I'll get some dirt though not nearly what I should have. It will be OK. but i'm a bit annoyed that he's acting as if it made sense that I would agree to have him remove dirt from my roperty to put it where he wanted it. That nice I am not. Don't most people know that a contract is supposed to benefit both parties.

I will stay calm. I think I handled it well - no sarcasm or anger. Dana was peering over their gate for awhile - I think she might have expected fireworks. But why would I agree to have him remove dirt from my property and put it on his property with nothing in the deal for me?

I will stay calm.

kb

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

So you think he's playing dumb? Sometimes the contractors think they are doing the favor by moving the dirt away- especially if they are not of the gardening variety.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

If he gives you a hard time, call the police and have him arrested for stealing. If nothing is in writing what the H. You need to get what you want or he does not get what he wants, it is very simple. If he does not understand, then show him who is boss. It is your property and your soil. Nothing else. Very simple. He must think you are a stupid woman. Show him otherwise. I am proud you kept your cool, but just do not give up anything you want and that belongs to you without a fight. He had nothing in writing to prove you said take it. So???

Hello Rj, yes it was warm in Newark, but I was not that warm until the sun came out about noon then the temps went zooming upward. I was unable to see with the drops the eye doctor put in my eye for my checkup today, so I was also unable to be outside in the sun. The glare was terrible. I have 3" pots of Aimee Gardenias and Jasmine Maid of Orleans if you would like one. I sell them on DavesGarden, but the people on this forum are exempt from paying, unless they want something bigger or harder to raise. lol. I will be happy to share with you if you want or have space. I too am very organized and the GH is really much better now since the weather is better and I threw away all I lost over the winter. Jen can tell you about the Aimees, she keeps killing them. Some people just never learn. .

Not sure I would pick Chicago over Houston but then I am not the one making that decision. Chicago is soooooo cold in the winter. BRRRRRR.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

You sure did it better than I would have Katie. Good for you.

Thanks rj. I will see how my brugs do this year.

I know what you mean Dave. That is one reason I have gotten almost all of this group, except I think for Evelyn the email addresses. But that is not what you are talking about I know. Evelyn, I need yours. D-mail me. Also Katie. I think I have rj's.

I think we could get someone to notify admin if we even thought about it. Admin would post something for us I am sure. I should ask Melody or Terry. But, please, noone, get hit by a truck.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Katie, don';t you need a permit to make the driveway wider? Or don't they have zoning officers in Mexico. You be polite but firm. He can not do that without something in writing. Contractor sometimes think they know it all, if so, he should know he can not just do what he has done. So, sweetie, take a deep breath and then tell him what you want and what you want him to do. Nothing else. Tell him, " Not negotiable" just do it.

I know you have not been feeling well, but you need to be smarter than he is and stronger.

I know you can do it. Hugs and Prayers. JB

I hate men who try and take advantage of older women. They think we are stupid and getting old and weak. I don't think so. Nite all.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Ok, YOU, I did not want to tell you this, but my Aimee that is not the standard has leaves turning yellow. sob, sob, Now what????

I think I put her in too much light. Close to an HPS light. Normally those are for blossoms or fruit. The standard is doing just great. I planted the Standard in Happy Frog and the shrubby one in Miracle Grow Moisture control.

mulege, Mexico

Thank you for the support on this. I really don't know what's going on but I kind of think that Tom just figured he'd pull a fast one and then play dumb if I said anything. We don't have zoning stuff to worry about and I don't want to escalate things. Remember these are the people who invited everyone in the neighborhood to their party except me and the next day told me about the party and offered me the leftovers!! When I finally asked why I hadn't been invited, Dana told me iti's because Tom doesn't like it that I don't wear a bra. She added that I surely must know that I'm a little weird.

For my own sake, I'm not going to get into a fight over this. They will be leaving in a few weeks to spend the summer at their home in Washington. While they are gone we can move any of the dirt that we want over to my property.

When Randy comes to visit we can both walk around nude. If Tom doesn't like me braless, we'll see how he likes two naked people who don't give a darn about him.

I've been in so much pain with the foot and taking so much vicodin that I need to stay as calm as possible and prepare for my trip to Ca.

Got an email from Logees that they can't send citrus to me in Ca so I'm getting a dwarf papaya.

Thank you all for your support. I think Tom just figures he can rund over me and then act dumb. Whatever. I'll get some sleep and Tony and I will laugh about it tomorrow as we plot our revenge.

hugs, katie

JB whats the new row for mums??? ooops should have waited to type well its going to be a nice veggie patch.

KB I would do everything in writing with him from now on nail him down. that will take all the wind out of his sails.
The key with air layering is to not allow it to dry out or cook the area you want roots.

I agree with JB if its something I did cuttings of thats one thing I will share but if I have to pay money for it then its for sale. Everyone here gets it but some people don't seem to grasp the concept.

well it was a horrid night last night I was up till 4:00 and I don't know why... so I will be sleepy soon

KB How about building them a monument for their return ...lol
I am sure someone can find some cud zu for the greenery

mulege, Mexico

I think they are so lost in themselves that it's best to just stay away.

It's funny, though, it will not be hard to shovel most of the dirt from where he put it to where I want it. And when my foot is better I'll need the exercise.

Some people are just too weird to tangle with directly. you know?

OK, Jeanette ~ I am not sure what you are talking about, but I will d-mail you, and then we can discuss it.

RJ ~ Beautiful pictures! I had to get another camera because I lost the first one that I had for 5 years. Just a simple Canon PowerShot This new one is maybe one step up with 3 times the megapixels and uses a higher memory card. That's what I need - a higher memory card! LOL!! (Getting to be an old lady here, too!) Taking pictures for me is the way to document when things bloom and when we get unseasonable snow, as we got a few late season snowfalls last year and made spring very short. I have no greenhouse, but I do have a back porch filled with things growing on it. Some on a plastic tiered shelf unit, and then others right on the floor lined up like little soldiers waiting to go to battle in the garden. Also I have a fenced garden area, of which a small portion is a very small nursery, but no cold frame, or potting shed, yet.

Yes, Katie should be able to get her dirt back! It amazes me how people "misunderstand" things to their own advantage and then act like they are doing you a favor! It will be interesting to see what happens. "You go girl!"

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Go sista Kate.

Dave you have your hands full with all those plugs. You have a lot. It sort of takes from your own landscape area though ha?

My landscape is always preparing for a drought or water rationing. I have tried to Xeriscape part of the yard. I am still making paths and trying to have a little place to walk and miander around some beds that have Vinca MJ, dayliliy, roses, lavender, hollyhocks, Iris's, mint, dianthus, petunias, a shrub or two. I have a lot of stuff I plant from seed and my tags all faded so I have no clue what it is until it blooms or until I have someone ID it or plant files tells me. I have a variety of stuff. Some is not working, wrong placement and some is. I have some different areas in the back of my house that get not much light and I am reworking them. Vinca Mj and Lamium will probably take over those parts. I have roses in another bed in the sun back there with some other shrubs and Agapanthus, Cannas too. When it blooms I will take pictures of what I am working on, but I have a long way to go and need hard scape. $$$.

Miles City, MT(Zone 3b)

Hi to all Out of 7 flats of seed planted I have about 10 plants,. These are the 72 plug flats!!!!! I did get the castor beans to come up, but that is all. Sure don't know what I did this year, maybe they read my beaddy little brain, and how bad I felt mentally and said to H*&^ with her. Except for the piles of snow from the snow plow, all of it is gone!!!!!!!! Was in the high 50s today, but forcast is for back to cold so I guess I have had my day of springtime.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Jen, I hate that Miracle Grow Moisture control because it may be good for some plants, but for the "rain loving" plants, no way. Aimees need so much water and they like to be damp most of the time. My one large Aimee got yellow leaves overnight last week and the real old one started. I stood there with the hose and just soaked them for about ten minutes until the water started coming out the bottom of the container. They look much better and now the buds are opening. You just must keep them wet. I water them daily most of the time. I let them soak it up for a day maybe depending on how much I give them, but their soil always is wet.

I am waiting for the vet to come to take some blood from Barn for a test to Addisons disease. Whatever that is. Anyhow, I just cut some daffies and they are beautiful. It is to rain the next several days so I wanted to get some of the different hybrids to the market before it started. Not just rain, nasty heavy stormy wind and rain, so look out daffodils what are just starting to look normal again from the winter.

Gotta go. JB

mulege, Mexico

I think Addison's disease is what John Kennedy had - another dog.

I'm almost awake and feeling better. Tony is here and I told him my dirt plan which sounds good to him. Tony and I share a reluctance to get into disagreements directly with anyone. His wife is a yeller and I've had more than my share of hypercritical people who would never admit a mistake.think I'll wash a couple of windows. yuk. I'll do it before I'm really awake.

hugs, katie

Pawleys Island, SC

Hi All, I took a little trip into "lindaworld" and I think I got lost there for a while. now I am playing catchup. I did manage to work outside yesterday and I potted up lots of seedlings. Today it is raining and that suits my lazy mood. I am thankful for the rain.
My azaleas are in full bloom and I have had the prettiest iris blooming for a couple of days now. It is a shame they only bloom once a year.

JB, I'll bet your daffodil fields are breath taking. Those are the only bulbs I can grow without the squirrels digging them up for food. We really don't get enough cold weather for bulbs to be pretty, so I don't plant many.

Ok, Jnette and Sharon, who is stirring the pot and who is watching it swirl?LOL

Please send me a reminder of any plants or cuttings I have promised you. The lantana isn't ready yet, but the other things can be.

Hope everyone has a great day. I am going to take a nap.

ttyl

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

So JB, should I repot my Aimee using a different mix? The other seems to be doing good in Happy Frog, should I give it that? I hate keeping plants WET. Unless it is real hot out I think they are overwatered.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Linda we crossposted. JB and Sharon are the s**t stirrers. They pick on me all the time.

Sharon has been a real sickee lately so I try not to stick up for myself with her but JB is relentless. A real bully. Think I will take my blankie and go sit in the corner.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

a time out jeanette????
well we got cold lat night it was 55 when i got up and had to turn the heater on.. whaaaa whaaaa whaaaa

Time to get moving. I have an arrangement where I get half the back yard and the south side of the house (for mt day lillies) I am planning to build a shade frame from pvc so it will be intersting to see what I come up with. Kim said as long as it can't be seen from the road. we back up to a busy 40 mph 5 lane road. Kim has threatened to build a hedge to hide the nursery. I said I will help as I get more cutting stock. lol

well time to get craking
Dave

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Oh my!! 55 you poor thing. I went out to help Bob put the plastic over the hoophouse and found ice on a tray of water. So my heart goes out to you Dave.

Are you going to start a crop of maple trees with all of those helicopters? We did the same thing as JB said. We would put them on our noses. Not sure what we thought they were, but that is what we did.

Wonder what is going on. Now my cat is gone. JB, did yours ever come back? I thought maybe something ran her up a tree and she couldn't get down, but she would have figured it out by now. So, something must have gotten her. No sign of that tho. Nothing on the highway either. Don't know. If we were closer to people I might have different suspicions but nobody around here.

She was spayed so there is no reason for her to leave home. But then I think males are more apt to do that.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Was she a big cat or could a wolf or coyote or something like that. Mountain lion, o.k. so that is a bit out of reach........my twins never came back. With all this snow we have had lots of scavengers that we never had before. Everything is hungry. Bear, coyotes, deer are all in closer to houses than ever.

Jen, as for the Aimee, frankly, I would put it with the other one, in the same soil and see what happens. If you can not take care of them properly then do not b****! You wanted them, now you got them so there. Either get with it or let them die. blah blah blah

O.K. the vet left after two hours. Two blood tests and a shot of something. She took blood, then injected him intravenous with something, we waited an hour and then she drew blood again. Another $365.00. I am now finished trying to find out what is wrong with the dog. I think he has a gut problem and as long as I do not give him fat, he is fine. Except when he eats bird seed.....no Jen, I do not feed hiim bird seed and no I will not put a bag under the birds cages..I have the room gated and that is it. But, a dog is a dog and gets into things he should not. The vet said he is in great shape for his age and if this test comes back negative, just keep on doing what we are doing. I just wanted to rule out Addison's disease which has to do with the adrenal glands and Cushings disease. Both are treatible. He loves all this attention at home. So does my check book. GRRRRRRR.

Katie, whatever makes you happy. Me, I would fight til the darn dirt was moved and not by me. LOL

I had to go to the optical shop to get my prescription filled for just reading glasses. I have a problem with the progressive lenses when I read for any length of time, so I am getting a pair just to wear when I read. I think it is a waster of money, but hell, I have so much money , what difference does it make. DON'T I WISH!!!!!!

The sun just came out.....quick........do something because ..............ooooops, where did it go. So much for the sun today. oh well. Time to grind up chicken for Mr. Barney. See ya later. JB

P.S. Linda, here is a picture of the daffodil field when the sun was going down yesterday. Yes, I said sun. One day of it no less.

Thumbnail by JBerger
Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

JB the bird food is for the birds not barney..... we had a collie that would get under the suit (spelling) cakes and let the greese run down into his mouth. 1st time my mom thought someone had dumped grease on him...

nice pic.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

OMG Dave, I bet that was a mess. Did he get sick? Barney will only eat the peanuts and when he does, he licks up some millet, small seed, etc. I had to put up a gate. Now when Gunny eats his hull peas and apple and nuts on the ledge. The bird room is divided by a ledge where I put plants, etc. Barney eats peas, etc. on the ledge. He throws down some when he eats and Barney always manages to eat something. He loves nuts and his gut does not. LOL So. I live with it and figure one of these days he will just not get awake and I will miss him with all my heart. He is going to be 14 and he is a real charmer. The vet is just crazy about him and said that for his age he is amazing. She had him running thru the daffodils today, playing with the cats. I love these house calls. LOL I pay her to play with my dog. I must be crazier than Jen thinks I am.
Hope you are feeling o.k. my dear Dave. I miss you. JB

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

I told you Barney has diverticulitis. You just won't believe me because I didn't give you a bill for $365!!! Well, if it would make you feel better, I will bill you for my sage advice. KEEP THE DAMNED SEEDS AND PEANUTS AWAY FROM THAT DOG!! HE IS NOT A BIRD!!

I said to put the trash bag over the bird cage and knot it at the bottom.

You sound like that stupid commercial on TV where the plumber walks the dog. Yes, I am sure, I am going to pay a plumber (or vet) $100 an hour to walk the dog or have it run thru the daffodils.

No, the cat was small for her age. Not skinny, just small. I have thought of that but you would think there would be some sign of it. Nothing, nada.

We got the hoophouse covered with the plastic and the alfalfa bales in place, it really looks good. Went to connect the hoses to soak the bales and they were full of ice. I thought I had drained them all before puting them away but Bob may have used them again and didn't do it. Dumb men anyway.

So, we stretched them down the driveway to thaw out and drain. Have an appt. in Spokane tomorrow so probably won't get to it until Thursday. Crap. Wanted to get them going. I love the smell of the alfalfa. It smells like a barn in there. I told Bob I could make perfume out of alfalfa. LOL, bet I could catch me a cowboy or a farmer.

Just what I don't need.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

JB sounds like Divraticulitis to me too. One of my dogs had to be put down. He had Cushings but he suffered with my X, who did not notice him fade away from 60 lbs to 39. I had him in my divorce agreement. I told the kids when they told me how skinny he was, that I was getting him and my h and I got in a huge, huge fight about it, I was ready to divorce him over the issue. He came and I had him a week and decided to put him down. His tail that was always curly was strait and he arched his back all the time and walked around whimpering. I love that dog so much. I am going to cry. I understand how hard all that is. 14 is the same age my Mushi was.

I see some of the seeds I planted the sunday before last are sprouting. Yippie. They are outside to and some in the exposed freezing night air, so extra bonus for me. My hydrangia is not happy out there and it was inside all winter, it too has melting leaves. I brought the big Brugs in, not so full now, leafless in fact.
What is an Aimee?

For the $365 JB spent just in the one visit she could have had Little Barney operated on and fixed the diver. I know, we are not doctors.

Bob's mom had Diver. My brother in law was operated on for it. They just take out the section of the intestine that is causing the problem.

Aimees are Gardenias Dawn. Did the trunks, stems, of the brugs get soft in the cold weather? If not, they should be fine.

I am not sure what he has, I do know I will keep him comfortable and he shows no signs of being sick except some mornings and I can tell he has nausea so I put compound on his ear and he rests until he feels better , then he is back and up and running.

I think it is his pancreas. His bloodwork shows it leaning that way and so do his symptoms
plus the fact anything with fat in it is a problem. He has only two numbers in the bloodwork that point to his liver and pancreas, so we are just making sure it is not anything else with these last two blood tests. At 14 he could have had almost anything, but his heart is good, his other bloodwork is good so we will see. I appreciate all your concern and comments. Thank you.

We had storm warnings last night and it rained so hard the daffodils are laying down today. If it does not dry off today they will all rot on the ground. God is really pissed off at me for some reason. It is cold and wet and very windy today.

Oh well, there aren't that many summers or winters that I will have to put up with this. At my age, like Barney, i may just not wake up some day. But until then, I intend to get the most out of every day and not complain. (TOO MUCH).lol

Off to my chiropractor. I am taking his girls some daffodils. Might as well give them away now. What I find amazing is that an entire row of bulbs has not come up. The wonderful fragrant paperwhites. They had several on a stem and were beautiful and so fragrant. Mystery.

Have a good day and don't work too hard. Hope your weather is better than mine. LOL JB

I think that paperwhites are less hardy than most. In Michigan we only used them for forcing. Here in Mexico they often hang on for several years. Which is about what I'm hoping to do. Had carppy dreams last night due to upset stomach. Am now up but kind of wobbly.

must go out and check the driveway area. The backhoe man was supposed to return yesterday morning. He didn't get here until 7:30 pm. Tom was quite annoyed with him when I went to get my ATV back. I did not go out while they were working.

The dirt on their side of the arroyo is only a couple of feet (uphill) from where I can use it. You folks are right about getting anything else we do in writing. Dana said something the other that suggested they may not be getting along too well. I did not ask for details.

This is a stange place in many ways. I've had similar experiences with many people here, Americans, Mexicans and others. Tony also has his share of stories about all nationalities. It adds to our appreciation of each other I also know a lot of my Mexican friends appreciate that I don't allow disagreements to escalate. It's a small town and it doesn't take much to get a reputation. Anyway, I'll be laughing the whole time we're moving the dirt knowing that Tom will expect it to be there when they get back in the fall. He thinks he got away with something.

I got a little housework done yesterday. The dust comes in constantly especially when we have winds like the other day.

We are going to town to get some plumbing supplies - Tony for plumbing, me for the planters I'm making for the blueberries.

I might not get any arhat plants to survive. This year I'm planting lots of hollyhocks and other annuals/perenials that are known to grow here and are not too difficult. I'll make an effort with the blueberry plants. I've added a lot to the ocal food plant sources and need something easier for awhile. I may have a couple of tangerines growing from seed.

JB, are you sure Barn isn't pregnant? Morning sickness? LOL gotcha!

Well, I'm off to get ready to head for Spokane to Costco for my appointment. And, a house I want to go by to look at on the way home. This will be a first for Bob. He is kicking and dragging his feet all the way. So, I think he finally decided that if he doesn't look and put in his 2 cents worth, he is not going to have any reason to about whatever I buy.

Don't know why it makes a difference now, it never has before.

Well gotta go, ttyl,

I'm ahppy to report that the area that I share with Dana and Tom now looks very good and I have a big pile of dirt where I wanted it as well as access to "tom's" pile Tom is being quite friendly and since he and Dana are my closest neighbors I'm doing the same.

I'm really glad Tony and I made the move to buy the middle property as it is a big enough space that if it were available someone would put a house on it and we'd all be screwed.

Time to go to town. Jennette, good luck on house hunting. After my dogs disappeared with my expensive prescription glasses the day I got home with them, I've switched to the Dollar Store reading glasses and keep several pairs around. The dogs are not interested in cheap glasses.

hugs, katie
