Coffee Break #56 Spring is Here!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, there are many tough jobs out there where you have to work until your late 60's or into your 70's, have to pay for your healthcare and are lucky to get two or three weeks off. And you can be let go at any time.

Naugatuck, CT(Zone 5a)

I don't know....RNs have access to ativan, teachers have access to chalk...........

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

That's not really true :-)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Are you 100% in the hospital, Deb? Can you make your own hours?

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I work for a home care agency, but do computer support and compliance. I haven't done real nursing for about 10 years. I work 3 days a week, I can be flexible with the days I work, but like to keep the same schedule. I really can't complain.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Nursing jobs are getting very tough around here now. A retired nurse friend's daughter just graduated and is having a very tough time finding a job.

Naugatuck, CT(Zone 5a)

I miss the road, and the people. Not the pych patients, but everything else.

Naugatuck, CT(Zone 5a)

Victor, tell her to move to CT, she can get a job!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

You were a nurse, dem?

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I know, used to be I could leave one job and have another the next day, not anymore.
(not that I ever did that)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

She lives in NYC and may relocate.

Chiming in on the school supervisor. Our county is strapped like many . Our exec took the same furlough and pay cut that he imposed in other county employess. BUT the school system is separate ! Not only the new super took full pay, (way into six figures) he got a deal to come where he got OUR county to pay off the PREVIOUS county for unused sick leave, big bucks. The list goes on, long story short .... the system wastes money on stuff like SMART boards for the new early ed center ( preK and K) Give me a flippin break- if that doesn't tell us their attitude is screwed up I don't know what would.

Naugatuck, CT(Zone 5a)

No, I am Paramedic, hear me moan while bendingy

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

sorry to hear that Jen.. always hard when it happens at a young age and not expected

Thomaston, CT

My Dad worked for Textron.....he took the month of Feb. off every year to go to Florida, he also took another month (week by week) during the summer months. He received bonuses, stock shares, retired with a great pension at 60....he was no one special, just a foreman. He never had to bring work home with him, never had night meetings, never had to deal with 25 parents per class.....and that would be 5 classes in 7th grade. I agree that supervisors make way too much money in education....but good teachers are priceless. There are always some bad apples....we certainly had them here....but even with tenure they were fired.....tenure does not protect you if you are incompetent, & if the principals do a good supervisory job, & the school board is not afraid of using their power...

Wonder what this guy's wife reaction was.

Dumb question of the day - when it's really windy like today, do tiny bugs like ants get blown around?? Imagine how far if they do! Like a Wizard of Oz experience.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Investigate and let us know, Victor. Seems to me ants must have sticky feet.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm guessing when you're that low to the ground, you're okay.

Hallowell, ME

Now if they have sticky feet do they track in dirt/sand into their ant hill?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Slugs stay put. I wish they'd blow away though I wouldn't want to be in their path when it happens.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Nope, they don't get blown away, they have happy feet.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Was that necessary, WC?!!^_^

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Hee hee!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I found it interesting, WC. At first I feared slug photos but it was ants' feet so I was spared. Thanks!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I took over the member list from Elenore.. she is too busy to keep up with it.. and I asked admin to change the sticky to the thread I started.. going to go though and see if anyone was missed in the old threads

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Allison. My name is Victor. I am the Walrus.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Wow, Allison! You are something else! Busy, productive, giving lady! So nice of you! I hope Eleanor is okay! I miss hearing from her, but I know she has her hands full.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

That's nice of you Allison!

:)

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I'm not surprised, since your journal is always so neat and up dated. :) If she has to pass the job off....the right person got the job. ^_^

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

funny you say that.. I slacked off this year with the journal

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Really? It still looks good to me!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I usually put what day I started the seeds & when and if they germinated.. skipped that part this year

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I wrote down(somewhere) what I started for wintersown jugs and when I put them out. Lots of good it will do me they....they blew all over the neighborhood in those 40 - 50 MPH winds we had last week. Then 14" of snow covered them where-ever they may have landed. Will have to go visit the neighbors to see what came up....someone is going to get a beautiful array of columbine!!!!!!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

just heartbreaking

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

A few years ago I planted a bunch of columbine seeds in little pots and put them along the garden fence, and then our new puppy dumped every one. The following year they were blooming in that garden. I'll be your neighbor!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

LOL
This is what blew away for Columbines:
Tower Lt. Blue
Tower Dark Blue
Green Apples
Granny's Lace Bonnet
Aquilegia Oxysepala
Chocolate Soldiers
Black Currant Ice
Miss M. I. Huish
